have you figured out your Significant Other's Christmas gift?
No! 26 years and I thought I’d be seeing the light at the end of the tunnel. My best chance is when she gives clues and hints or what she wants but this is NO guarantee. For example she might hint at a style of shoe or whatever. I get said gift, and while in the ball park, it’s no good because some detail is not liked. Gift cards are my best bet because I hate returning things especially when it was something she didn’t really like. And then she gets to buy exactly what she wants. Let me say this is not a cop out. No way. It’s a win-win. If I asked her to buy me fishing gear, let’s just say the tables have been turned.

Light Lure Casting Reel, NoT BFS
What is your definition of light weight? 1/4oz? Any quality reel worth its salt should be able to cast 1/4oz without breaking a sweat. As for me, I think of light weight from 3/16oz and below, even though 3/16 is only 1/8 less than 1/4 ?. Unfortunately, I don’t know if there is already an established definition of what is light so I look forward to see the responses too. Lastly, I’ve realized the term weightless can be a bit misleading. I’ve learned it does not always mean light. A “weightless” 5” senko is 3/8oz without the hook ?

My Problem With YouTube Fishing Videos...
I also appreciate the effort made by folks on YouTube. As for me, I don’t have such knowledge to make worth shooting a video on, lol. Let me put you at ease on “hating” on losing lost fish that turn up small. It is clear to me that you are not familiar with islandbass’ hooked fished theorem: “The size of a fish hooked at a distance decreases in size in proportion to the inverse square law — i.e., the closer the fish gets to the angler, the smaller it gets. ?

What was you're best lure and set up this year?
Carolina rigging a Rapala was one of the first techniques I ever tried when I first started fishing. I didn’t know anything about this rig or that rig. I just knew that I was fishing from the shore and needed to get those light floating minnows out there so through thought and necessity derived and devised what I later learned was called a C rig. Don’t put it off. It can be very effective. Lastly, it doesn’t have to be on the bottom if your using floating minnows or husky jerks or what not. The Carolina rig with such cranks in effect turns any of these baits into a count down lure. To the topic, I think I went fishing only about 5 times this season and only caught 6 fish. Two with skitter pop poppers, two with t-rigged senkos, and two with the drop shot.

Holiday lights/decor
Wow! My wife wants us to cut our own tree for the first time ever this year. Christmas lights are usually up weekend after thanksgiving. I also love how I have translate or read between the lines she says. For example, she said, “Let’s cut our own Christmas tree this year.” Translation: Your going to cut down a tree for us. I’ll probably be sipping on hot cider or cocoa while you are cutting the tree. ? I hate Pinterest and that home/house channel. They give her too many ding dang ideas and guess who has to execute?

Steelhead\salmon rods...
There are salmon/steelhead rods designed for float fishing. They usually are about 10’ long to maximize line control and setting the hook from a distance. And while they can cast floats, they are powerful enough to handle and tame king salmon. Consequently, that also means they should be able to handle catfish. I’d look at Lamiglas and Loomis but there are a few other rod makers out there.

Good budget all purpose rod?
It probably wouldn’t hurt to continue in this airdx line and get the whatever length you want with MH power.

My head almost exploded. I walked into THE HOOKUP TACKLE store.
That’s all? That’s somewhat akin like Seattle to Portland. My bait monkey just uncloaked, started rattling his cage and pointed those three red dots on my wallet, lol. Thanks.

My head almost exploded. I walked into THE HOOKUP TACKLE store.
Lol, the monkey was on his back predator style the whole time, lol. To the topic, now I need to know how long the drive is from Tucson to Phoenix. I have family in Tucson and relatively speaking, that might be within spitting distance.

Warm gloves you can actually fish in.
Thanks! Knowing my usual reverse thinking I might have called them mitgloves, lol.

Warm gloves you can actually fish in.
I forgot the brand but they’re are cut off type of glove and mitt at the same time. In addition the mitt part can fold back and expose the cutoff glove. Even with the mitt over the cuttoff, you can still reel. I will expose my thumb with casting gear. Bird’s nest suck undoing and suck even more when it’s freezing so I take every precaution to minimize that occurrence. These are great but from my experience, when you start fishing in the teens and below, it really doesn’t matter what glove you have. Without some type of warmer, your hands will get cold, feel frozen and stiff. Fish tough or stay home. ‘Nuff said.

Somebody Please Help Me To Understand: Is it Gamakatsu or Gamagatsu?
You are on point with tonkatsu. That is the bomb. I can one up you. I was learning from a few Japanese friends some Japanese and I decided to put to use what I learned in a Japanese restaurant. Unfortunately, I was solo so I had no help. I successfully ordered one Katsu don (don means bowl, so Katsu in a bowl over rice) but I couldn’t remember the word for eel, as I was trying to order eel sushi. To my surprise, eel tastes really good. Normally I’d be grossed out, but I’m not kidding. My brain was scrambling for that word but I just couldn’t remember - so I made a “best guess” and told the lady Enu (pronounced EE-New). The lady’s ? eyes popped out of her head like an anime cartoon and when I saw her face, I knew I guessed wrong and immediately realized I said dog. I was mortified, but I think she was more so. I know they say better late than never but it sucks in this case, as the word finally came to mind — Unagi = Eel. On the bright side, it was good my Japanese friends were not there. They’d probably never let me live that down to this day and this was 30 years ago, lol.

Somebody Please Help Me To Understand: Is it Gamakatsu or Gamagatsu?
If Chicken Katsu, then Gama Katsu. Pronounce the vowel “a” as in the word awe, or as in, “Ah, isn’t that puppy cute?” ‘Nuff said. ? Cabin fever is arriving earlier this year. ?

What to add to my bank fishing arsenal?
As a shore angler myself, I can see why he want would to choose a 300, especially for the techniques he says he uses it for. That said, it is not necessarily overkill if his gear needs to have dual function like bass and maybe saltwater (just an example). My reels need to handle bass and salmon so 9 times out of 10 I lean toward to 200 size reel. Matter of fact I only have one 100 sized casting reel. Line capacity for a shore angler is a serious aspect to consider. Sometimes we need to make longer casts, especially for what the OP uses it for. We also have to factor line loss from bound to happen breakoffs. If you are forced to break off a long cast with a 100 or 70 sized reel, you’re done. Line capacity and line recovery are no longer optimal. You might as well hand line fish, lol. Yes, there are trade offs, such as weight of the reel being heavier, but that is the nature of the crumbling cookie.

For those having hookset issues...
Man, I’ve been doing this for years. Except I call it the “Reverse Javelin” hook set. ?? Joking aside, I thought that was pretty funny.

Drop Shot On A Baitcaster
Easy. Use strip of Velcro. There are different forms of Velcro but this is ideal. VELCRO Brand ONE-WRAP Cable Ties, 100Pk, 8 x 1/2" Black Cord Organization Straps, Thin Pre-Cut Design, Wire Management for Organizing Home, Office and Data Centers https://a.co/d/1vO87og Wrap that strip at the butt end of the rod and make it stick to itself. Now it’s time to use it to hold the DS weight. If the tag end is a bit long, wrap some of it around the rod butt such that the DS weight is at the end of the rod butt. Use the Velcro to hold the line and weight in place so that it won’t dangle. You may opt to “cut” that Velcro strip shorter but long enough to do the job. You can also use those girlie round black and round elastic hair bands but a thin strip of Velcro looks better. I know, old resurrection post but I had to help a brotha out, lol ?.

Jerkbait ( Vision 110 ) hookup fail
I would chalk this up to “you win some, you lose some” sometimes those are the breaks. now if you lose 10 in a row, then let’s start looking into this. ?

Top Water Question
Actually, that depends on the slope of the green. Could be either way. ? Honestly, I had never given that any thought. I am guessing I’ve probably worked it both ways. I will observe the next time I toss one. I’m looking forward to see what others will say.

hypothetical FIRST-DATE question.
I can definitely relate with regard to steaks. God rest her soul, My mother was an excellent cook in all respects except for steaks. She could not ever see or have steak pink. I grew up hating steak. Then when a buddy found out I didn’t like steaks, he said, “Let me show you the way,” lol. My first bite into a medium rare steak was mind boggling. ? wow! I reacted the same way. Where has this been all my life. I was about 21. What a waste of time. At least I was shown the light. ?
