Fly fishing for bass?
I haven’t yet either. However, I am a bit afraid to start. Why? Because my casting and spinning gear might start collecting dust, lol!

Shimano vs. Lew's Reels
Yeah, that’s odd ball, lol. I’m one too. ? With that said, neither fishing rods nor reels within a brand IMHO have a true consistency so this might very well be an illusion. Golf clubs can arguably make use of this consistency thing but fishing gear like reels? I’m inclined to think possible but perhaps not probable. Note: I could very well be mistaken.

Shimano vs. Lew's Reels
It doesn’t have to exclusively company A or B. I love a use Shimano, BUT and this is a big BUT — I am a not mindless, one only brand person. So my question to you is why do you have to or are even considering a “switch”? Buy what you want to use and it need not be exclusive to any particular company. Kind of silly if you ask me, but you aren’t, lol. Here is one example. I love Shimano mountain bike components (shifters primarily) to the point I don’t even consider anything and I hate grip shift type shifters. However, I cannot stand and do not like Shimano’s road bike shifters. No way. Never. And for that reason, I will never give Shimano my money for them. I’ll use down tube friction shifters before that. Oh yeah. Some people love Daiwa reels but hate their T-wing reels. Keep using your lews reels and if you buy a Shimano reel, that’s good on you. Expand the arsenal and make companies earn your loyalty, but don’t be blindly loyal.

What does everyone think of this bait?
Those don’t look so hot. Don’t feel bad. I’ll be more than happy to take them off your hands. I know, but someone needs to step up and help you out, lol. ?? Joking aside, they look awesome. What kind of paint did you use? The color is amazing. I am willing to wager that both will be fish catching machines out the gate. Double willow spinnerbaits are my favorite ?.

Boaters casting over shore fishermen
No they don’t have priority and I don’t care who they are, even if it’s a tournament. Tell them straight up and we bank anglers need not be rude in what we say for them to get the message. You should see what happens to people fishing from a boat that come encroaching on shorebound anglers and anglers on the docks in the puget sound. Some boat anglers are stupid enough to encroach, and sometimes blatantly. Look up what a buzz bomb is and then imagine what a million of those look like hurled through air toward their boats. It would look like arrows darkening the sky in 300. They have the entire puget sound to fish and they want fish in the area that the bank and dock anglers are. Stuuuuupiddddddd is as stupid does.

Hey Delta rats... what growls at you out on the Delta?!?
Maybe I’m that case, it might have been stuck?

Taking Aim
Are you talking about RH casting reels held with the right hand? Holding an LH casting reel with the right hand so that the handle is upright would be difficult, and IMO, not good mechanics. I think understand what you are describing, but I have illustrated that by saying that the handle is parallel to the y axis (i.e., vertically) when picturing an x-y-z coordinate system. Therefore, if an RH casting reel is held in the right hand, the handle is positioned up toward the sky as you described (parallel to the y axis) — And if an LH reel is held in the right hand, the handle would be positioned down toward the earth (also parallel to the y axis). I do agree with you about not being able to cast accurately without proper mechanics.

Ultralight rods
That would be a minimum in my neck of the woods. I have a 9’6” rod for rivers. The longest you can get away with is my suggestion. The longer rod length gives you greater casting distance BUT more importantly, IMHO, greater line control. You do have to take other factors into account like the flora around. If it’s close knit and tight quarters, then a 9’6” rod probably isn’t the best choice.

Ultralight rods
Good point. I can tell you that I had no issue setting the hook with I believe 1/8 through 3/8 oz panthers and trebles to boot. That said, honestly, the trout practically set the hook on themselves. During the retrieve, they’d hit, my rod bent and I continued to reel and pull back just a little to ensure tension on the line. I don’t even know if I could call that a true cross the eyes bass hook set. But then again, I don’t think I can recall ever setting the hook like that on any fish. Yet. Still working my way from finesse to heavier fishing where possible such a hook sett might be warranted.

Ultralight rods
I have that rod. I am also a Lamiglas fan but honestly you need not look any further. my first fish with a panther Martin on my 7’ celilo yielded a hooked trout just a few weeks ago. of course you can Carolina rig with it, but it just needs to be scaled appropriately to the rods power. How/what do you plan to c-rig? For example, using power bait eggs or dough utilizes a c-rig set up by default. But if you plan to c-rig like a 1/2oz bullet with a soft plastic for bass, that’s not the best tool to use. one other thing. Mine is technically listed by okuma as a light powered rod but from its lure weight range, For all intents, it is a UL rod in my eyes. Mine has caught more fish than all of my other rods combined. Period, end of story, Nuff said, lol. ive drop shotted with it (to scale of course) with much success too.

Yes. I was a teen in the 80s. What about the first generation transformers? My two youngest brothers cried when Optimus Prime died, lol.

Tackle warehouse scam
I have come close so many times, lol. Trust me!

Tackle warehouse scam
Perhaps breach is a better word? As it is written, it suggests that TW is the scammer. I am perhaps one of the few on here whose been here a while and while tempted, have never ordered from TW! I have nothing against them at all. Not sure not if this is a badge of honor, a mark of anti bait monkey resistance or a scarlet mark of upcoming ostracism upon disovery, lol.

Happy Thanksgiving everyone
It didnt start out as wife and I only but it ended up that way, kind of. Had a friends and their family over. Their two kids went home early because the older one had to work the next day. Our kids cut out early and went to their rooms. Then our friends left, leaving just my wife and me. I tell her to go upstairs and I went to clean everything thing up and I’d be up soon. I finish by 11:30 pm and decided to just sit on the couch for a few minutes to rest my back. I guess babysitting the brisket the day before took more out of me than I thought. I dozed off and woke up at 3:30am. What!? Dang. It only felt like five minutes. ?

Jerkbait/crankbait do it all rod
@LonnieP Thanks. That what I was suspecting. I think it’s fascinating how 2 rods with similar traits could feel differently in hand.

Jerkbait/crankbait do it all rod
Could you elaborate on why you like the tatula more? Sometimes is as simple as the look of feel in hand, and inquiring minds are dying to know. ?Thanks.

Money, money, money !!
In before the lock, lol. To answer the OP, the answer is no. I don’t wonder how much Bezos makes. I am not even curious nor care, but I did save 15% by switching to Geico. @MN Fisher I like numbers and so I decided to crunch some because my curiosity was piqued. 3% of 1x10^9 is $30,000,000. Wow! If he were taxed at 17%, we just move the decimal over a number of times to the right ➡️ — $170,000,000.00. I can’t count that high! Well, some might need an electron microscope so don’t feel so bad. ?

Do you know who this is? Did some cleaning up and came across this treasure. Yup. This shirt is from way back. I don’t recall if it was born on BRR or some old defunct bass fishing forum but I do recall a whole bunch people agreed it was a great idea to make such a shirt. Someone designed and while many agreed to buy one, sadly I think many bailed out and I believe I am one of the few who bought one. I love this shirt but I’ll never wear it for a number of reasons, the primary one is for preservation sake. The other is why would I want a monkey on my back, lol? He’s better in his cage. He did get out a couple of times this season, long enough to make me get a Daiwa Aird X. ??

Bridge Hooksets?
Yes, sir! When I discovered this for myself, it was practically a night and day deal. Huge revelation. Light bulb ?, I mean LED lit up, lol.
-
Bridge Hooksets?
Couple possible things. 1) the distance between you and the fish - it’s pretty far for such a short rod 2) could be the hook if it’s too thick a gage the rod just might not have the backbone to drive it home. Combine that with the far distance and the short length of the rod, and it does not help your situation. I would try going with a lighter gauge hook AND using a light wire 3/0 straight shank hook. Yup, I said it. Straight shank hook. Light wire. As long as a sufficient amount of slack is removed before the hook set, I am willing to bet a floating rapala minnow you will notice an increase in hook ups. However as mentioned above, if the bass has your lure in its mouth but not the hook, and that is possible, especially when you see them “throw” the hook, all bets are off. ??

What have you learned this fishing season?
I learned a lot this season I cracked two lakes including the Fenwick lake for which the company with its namesake is named. I finally learned that bass bedding in my area is typically in June. I have never done so well and caught larger than the typical 1.5 pounders. This was the season I decided to give a weighted T-rig a try with creatures, craws and similar baits. This is my attempt to ween myself off of finesse (mainly DS) and explore “heavier” techniques. The results were unreal. I was blown away. A new weapon added to my arsenal. I also honed my newly acquired skills with spinnerbaits and 5” senkos for bass fishing and experimenting with homemade inline spinners and panther martins (the latter just last week) for trout and salmon. I just realized that all of this was done with my two piece rods and none of my true bass rods. ? Oh well. Spinning 7’ okuma celilo UL 6’6” Shimano MH compre Casting 7’ Cabelas mag touch M sensitive and surprisingly powerful enough to set the hook on my t-rigs and spinnerbaits. It acts more like an MH 6’6” Daiwa Aird-X M - New rod! Acquired late in the season. Has already hooked bass … and salmon!!! I have never been able to catch a bass in October until this season. This has be a decent season. @PressuredFishing - Great topic!??

Best Handling FC or Co-Poly #6 lb. ~ #8 lb. Line (Spinning Reel)
Invisx. With all the rage of tatsu (which I do like), I call it tatsu’s lil brother. 6# invisx is my go to line for Dshot and it’s suppleness makes for good manageability.

Decent once a year trout combo
Yup, yup, yup! Carolina rig for sure. Glad you know the drill there. On my home lake, the leader length is 8’ minimum. Period. Any shorter and your dough or egg will not be above the grass for the trout to hone in on. It’s also why I said to get the longest rod you can get away with. My 9’6” rod naturally handles an 8’ leader better than my 7’ rod. Also, you need at least a 3/4 oz. weight (egg or bullet usually) to get it to what I call the “money” zone. Other nearby lakes a 4-5’ leader is needed and hence the local knowledge is a plus. I kept skunking out because my leader length was not long enough — until one guy told me why I wasn’t catching any trout. Size 8 or 10 hook as of late since the stocked trout have been small. ? Thanks for sharing and great pics. I find it fascinating and interesting how the same basic set up can vary to capture the quarry.?
