Just my point of view
Here's one for ya: Buy 5 Barbie Rods at Walmart, put the line of your choice on each. Fish a tourney, and see how you do.... If bet you could have a fun day, and get a lot of looks in the process.

Got a decent one last night

Finger lakes
I locked out of Cayuga a few years back, and caught a lot of nice bass in the canal. I think it was the North end. Just before the lock is a bridge, and on the right a big concrete type jetti. Buddies whacked them inside that jeddied area. The canal had lots of slop section years ago, and there was little pressure. I finished third for our club tournament by locking out. Most guys didn't do well that year, the fish kill was up, due to some treatment of the lake for weeds. That was 4-5 years ago. If I went today, I'd lock out and check the canals, and that jeddied area near the concrete. Good luck.

Lake Champlain
Love to know how the 6am launch went. We were there both days at 4:45 and was very light. We were on the water by 5:15 all days we were there. We fished just around the ti point, over near the Bar along the road. Smashed them on top. Wind picked up and we headed out of Whitehall, and went under the road bridge, and drifted the major weed mats on the right. We nailed them each time there. Frogs on top. We'd go in on plane, stop, and let the wind drift us through the mats....then repeat. We got lot's of pike bites as well, but it was fun.. Buddy got a 5 lb 3oz, and I got a 4 lb. 4 oz. Nice fish. The wind really shut us down this trip, but heading out of Whitehall, and fishing the slop was a blast. Pics to follow. Most fish on the slop were caught on 50lb braid, and yum frogs, and (my favorite) Gambler Cane Toads(White/Black). Love to see pics, and hear stories from your trip or tournaments. ****Thought we'd hit Whitehall Saturday morning, but surprised to see an FLW event .....so much for the "ramp to our selves". That's why we try to do Weekdays...early, so we aren't as jammed up with tournament and pre-fishing guys. Either way, Loved the yearly trip to Champlain. Jamie

Which reel should I choose?
NEVER had a Bad Quantum product...EVER! I don't buy too much Shimano stuff, so I am a bit Biased. I'd try Shimano to see what they are like.

Vasectomy
It's a great way to show your wife Love. I applaud you. I plan to do the same if we have a second child. I don't know how it will feel, but it can't be near the pain, nor like the changes a woman's body goes through. Good Luck....

Small Easy-Casting Topwaters??
Xcalibur Popper for me, or a chug bug. What they heck, buy all the suggested ones, and have a sweet topwater box...for all situations! There are some cool lure listed. Kinda amazing how we get pigeon holed into the baits we have confidence in. What if...we tried another top water first, would we try all the others, or just stick with a select few? HUM?

John & Kate + 8
So... Invite a Camera Crew into your house, for all to see. Then, everyone wants to see what you do next. Then, get Mad when folks with cameras follow you around. Then air dirty laundry to the world. Then, get $75,000 a show? Then, you realize, this might not have been a great idea????? I am glad I am a nobody!!!!!! (It's me John...secretly posting on Bass Resource...don't tell KATE!)

Gambler Cane Toads
Have tried the Rage tail (like them), and also the Horney Toads (Like them also), and will try the ribbits. I have a tourney thisweekend, and not to much funds for new Canes, so i will be using the Rage tails, and the Zooms. Either way....what a blast when a Bass hits a frog, and BLAM!!!!! Hookset, and reel em' in to the boat! Great replies...Thanks! Jamie

Gambler Cane Toads
Saw these on "A Day on the Lake", and tried them. I think they are the best frogs I have used so far. They have a great leg action, and the hook ups have been good so far. Just curious if anyone else uses them. They work well on a worm screw hook, and they travel very nicely over the slop. I saw a 3 pounder come up on a brush hog the other morning, and threw this, and two cranks, and blam. Using on 50lb. Power Pro....AWESOME! Can't wait to throw this Toad up at Champlain. I leave the 20th....and will be at the TI ramp at first light!!!!! Good fishing!

My son's first bass

Stanley Cup Final
I hope the Pens win, so Sid The Kid can shave that pathetic attempt at facial hair. They have killed my Flyers twice now in the past two years, and I can honestly say that I hope the Penguins take it. They have a good team, and it would be good to see those guys bring home the cup to Pittsburgh. GO PENS!

Monster Potomac River Snake Head-

Lake Nockamixon
I am hosting a tournament there on July 18th. If you are interested, hit me up. It's out of Tohickon. I went out of Haycock a few weeks ago, and caught a few on shallow cranks. I have heard from a friend, that out of haycock to the left, under the bridge, that there are a few good points to hit. He caught a few nice ones less than 300 yards on either side after going under the bridge. I am new to the lake as well, but finding weeds would be a good bet. I would fish plastics, and maybe some shallow cranks. If there is any weeds, and you're there early, rubber topwaters, and poppers might be good. I hope you have luck. If I were going this weekend, I'd hit the slop (if there were any) early, then shallow crank, and plastics in, and off the weed inside and outside edges. Good Luck jamie

Lake Oneida
I would.... Try Damons Bar. Can hit them on topwater buzzers, or jerkbaits if the weather is right. Check out maps of the Lakes, or PM me for details. No secret, just a place where we have whacked the. Have also caught some nice smallies over on the Cleveland side. I locked through a few years ago, and caught some nice fish in those canals...on the western lock end. Caught many on top water frogs! Good Luck! Peace. Jamie

Monster Potomac River Snake Head-
Not Happy to see them at all, just interesting, since I have never seen one, let alone this big. That's why I took the pictures. You never know if you'll ever see anything like that again. If one were to get on my line...it would be lights out...after I figured out how/what to use for the "last rights". The potomac was awesome last weekend, and I am sure it is good this weekend too....enjoy, it's a very nice fishery! jamie

Monster Potomac River Snake Head-
Check out this video... and this one where one jumps out of the container... Very interesting, and to see what they do to a Bass is Nasty!

Braid for Spinning Gear
Thanks for all of the replies....I think I will set up one of my spinning rods for the next trip. Any thought on visibility difference from braid and fleuro? Just curious??? I may try 15 lb. to start, sound good? Green color I'd imagine? I have used Power Pro, so I will probably stick with that. Thanks for all you advice!

Monster Potomac River Snake Head-
Was reported, and the fish/game official came, and then gave it to a local gentleman, who in turn ate it...from what he said he was going to do!!!! Here's another pic....check out the teeth on this thing!!!!!

Braid for Spinning Gear
Any guys here use braid for spinning tackle? I was fishing weeds this weekend, and lost a few to weeds on 10lb. fleurocarbon. Do you think a 20 lb. braided line would be helpful when fishing plastics near/in weeds with spinning? Thanks- I usually fish a 3/8 ounce slider head and baby brush hogs...a deadly combination for me.

Monster Potomac River Snake Head-
Fished Broad Creek yesterday, and caught 4 keepers. Norther point down to the first docks, and out about 30-50 yards. Not monsters, but did well. Should have stayed there for the duration, I know we might have gotten the 5th keeper. It was nice to see the planes go over all day. What a beautiful fishery. Fished near Mt. Vernon as well, that is some nice water and weeds just below the retaining walls. Thanks for sharing your waters this weekend...it's a great place to fish! Jamie
