  1. I just bought a Chronarch MG after having several problems with Citicas, but to me my old Curados feel and sound so much smoother than the Chronarch. Are my expectations for the MG too high? When I reel in line, I can definitely hear the reel working, that is not the case with my curados or even my BPS pro qualifier. Did I get ANOTHER bum steer from Shimano?
  2. No kidding, I was going to give you a shout to see if you wanted to head to Lone Star this week or weekend, but with the cold rain and snow lately, I think the water temps have probably cooled off enough to put a damper on things for a while.
  3. I use my normal crankbait set up for lipless cranks, BPS crankin stick 6'6" M with a BPS Pro Qualifier reel. I use a 5.1:1 ratio reel as well, although, I was using it before I saw the show with KVD, so does that mean I am as smart as KVD :-?, I would say no, but it does make me feel a little better knowing my set up is not all that different from one of the greatest anglers.
  4. I don't remember exactly, but I think I am using the #2's
  5. I don't dropshot all that often, but I have used them and have no cmplaints. They aren't that expensive, so I decided to try them, if I didn't like them I wouldn't be out that much money, but so far so good.
  6. I tried a spool of it, and didn't have any problems with the line per say, now my casting skills destroyed that line, :-[ but that was my fault not the lines. It seemed pretty good, especially for the price.
  7. I asked a very similar question a few months ago, and the responses were almost unanimous..THE ROD. I had been using a low end Quantum for my t-rigs and such and thought it was pretty good. Then I bought a Loomis MBR 843 IMX, and well, it is night and day difference. I have used it with both high end and low end reels, and really not much difference. I currently have it paired up with a Chronarch 50 MG, and it is heaven. The Cliffs notes version, get the rod, you will notice a huge improvement. That being said I think that the technique being used has some influence. For example, for T-rigs, jigs, finesse presentation, the rod is way more important. For Power fishing, like spinnerbaits, crankbaits, etc., I think that you can get by with a lower end rod and a very good reel
  8. This one is not any better from the bank, unless the snag is very close to you. This and the cabelas one work great from a boat, but I have not had any luck with either from the bank.
  9. I haven't given up on Shimano, just Cabelas.
  10. That is why I kept exchaning them, I figured there is now way I will get two bad ones in a row, then I did. Thought there is no way on this green earth that I am getting 3 bad shimanos in a row, and what do ya know it happened. I am not sure of what or why it happened, but I just bought a Shimano Chronarch 50 MG from BPS today, now if that goes bad, I am going to quit fishing because then it must be me not the equipment.
  11. I did, but due to my primary job schedule as well as my wife's schedule, I had to quit, :'( >:(but I am trying furiously to get back on now that our schedules are more normal again.
  12. Yeah, I got them at the KCK location, unfortunately, I am really gun shy about buying reels there now, that is why I didn't jump on the TD-Z sale they had. It is not such a big deal since BPS is much closer and generally the prices for reels and rods is very similar.
  13. Well thanks for all the input folks, I am happy to say that I am the proud owner of a new..........Chronarch 50 MG. I am dying to get it mounted on my Loomis rod and hit the water, unfortunately, there is an 80% chance of thunderstorms today and 90% tomorrow, :'( so if it is even remotely not lightning on Sunday, I will be out breaking in the new combo.
  14. I wouldn't have expected anything else RW. :) I think that I am going to opt for the MG over the style and flair of the Zillion. Sure it looks cooler, but I have always had trouble with magnetic braking systems on reels, I can never get them set right.
  15. I only ask because there seems to be a lot of people that are on either side of the fence. I just bought another pair of Costa sunglasses, but then my Citica gave out, and I need to replace it. I have decided to take the glasses back and use that money for a new reel to go on my Loomis worm rod. I like the fact that the Zillion comes in a 7.1:1 ratio while the MG doesn't, but I like the fact that the MG is much lighter than the Zillion. So everyone sell me, which should I buy and why?
  16. I finally broke the seal on my new Loomis rod, she was a chunky 3 pounder on my fave bait, the fat ika. I have to say that fishing with this rod is heaven, I can feel every pebble, rock, weed, you name it, I can feel it, and well when this fish hit it, it was felt like a truck hitting it. This rod was some of the best money I have ever spent on fishing. Now if I can find a reel that will work correctly for more than 1 trip to the lake, I will be extremely happy.
  17. BPS no longer has any TD-Z's...they were all pulled about 3 months ago. Cabelas didn't have any either until 2 days ago. Oh well, it was worth a shot. Other than weight, what are the major differences between the TD-Z and the Zillion?
  18. Well, this definitely throws a wrench in to my plans. I had been trying to decide if I should get a Shimano Chronarch or a Daiwa Zillion, and I am trying to avoid buying from Cabelas for a while since the last three reels I purchased there, were all returned with defects, but this may be a deal that I can't pass up. I think I will see if BPS will do a price match since it is a published price on the internet.
  19. Forgive him father for he does not know what he 's saying. Too funny Raul, I still like the looks of the Daiwa Zillion, same price as the MG, so I guess I will have to see which feels better. I know the MG is much lighter, so that is a definite plus for it.
  20. I would do this, however I have already returned it to cabelas and got my money back. I will try BPS since it is not a 30 minute drive if I need to return or exchange something. Like I said, I may just return my new sunglasses and use that money with the money for the returned reel and get a Chronarch MG since this is the reel that goes on my Loomis rod.
  21. I was thinking that as well, they all were from Cabela's.
  22. I know, the first one I figured was an anomaly, the second was just strange, and now the third is upsetting. I just bought a new pair of Costa sunglasses, but now the baitmonkey is saying, you know if you take those back and with the money from the returned Citica, you can afford a Chronarch MG, so now I am thinking about that or a Zilion.
  23. I just returned my third Citica 100 today because of problems with the reel. > The first two had issues with the cast control knob and the last one, the super stopper anti reverse was not working right. There was about 1/2"-3/4" of play in the reel when it was engaged. I own some of the older Curados and have never had one problem with them, am I just getting bum steers or what is the deal?
  24. This is definitely my go to bait now, and predominantly I fish it skirt up. I will turn it around and fish it skirt down when it is too tore up to fish it any other way, and it still catches fish, but skirt up is my first choice.
  25. I use one of those old weight from a weight set. The ones that are plastic but filled with concrete, works pretty good on my inflatable pontoon.
