  1. At this point in the game, anything on a jig would be nice, size and numbers not important, heck for that matter species is not that important , well maybe it is but you get my point. I guess I will just keep experimenting until I find something that I feel comfortable with. I understand the keeping in contact with the bottom and being able to feel the jig. I just bought my new jig rod this weekend and cant wait to give it a real test. From the small amount of time that I did get to try it on Saturday, all I can say is WOW. I had a 5/16 oz Eakins jis on and it felt like I was fishing a 1/2 or 3/4 oz jig, I could literally feel every twig, stone, and piece of debris on the bottom, the extra sensativity in the new rod was absolutely amazing.
  2. Glenn hit the nail on the head with regards to how and why you can get a "free" phone with a new contract, and as far as just letting dry out and hope it works. Well that would probably work IF the phone was shut off when it got wet, just like a tech friend told me, the best way to clean a keyboard is to put it in the dishwasher. You just have to let it completely dry out before using. If the phone is on when it gets wet, there is already electricity flowing through the circuits so they will short out and once that happens, you're SOL, however if the phone is turned off, then there is not current flowing through the circuits, so letting the thoroughly dry before turning it on may work for a while, until the corrosion kicks in. Your best bet is to go onto Craigs list and see if anyone has any used phones in your area that will work on your network until your contract can be renewed.
  3. Thanks RW, Just the info that I was looking for.
  4. I am a little confused, I have been reading all I can on jig fishing to become a better angler with them, but during here is my confusion. On one hand I am reading use smaller finesse jigs in the winter, but on the other hand I have read and heard use big bulky ones to make it worth while for bass to expend the energy to eat it. Is this one of those situations where both are right and it is more personal preference, or am I missing something? Water temps are in the low to mid 40's.
  5. Another suggestion, is to get some KVD line conditioner or Reel Magic and spray it on the line. Make a few long casts and put tension on the line when you reel it in. The line conditioner will assist in reducing the memory and make the line a little more managable, but as been said before to all but eliminate the problem, use braid.
  6. Did you get a flyer on this or how did you hear about it? I hadn't heard a thing but it looks like I may be making a trip there tomorrow morning.
  7. Truly a sad day not only for KC, but for the entire sports world. Mr. Hunt was in my opinion the epitome of what a good human being should be. In spite of his immense wealth and influence in many of the major sports in the US, he was a very humble and well rooted man. He never forgot who he was or how he got to where he was, which in today's society of "look at me, see what I can do" is a major statement. The NFL and MLS owes a great deal of gratitude to this man and his vision. He will truly be missed. My thoughts and prayers go out to the Hunt family and to all the lives that he touched.
  8. WoW how cool is this, start with the most infomative Bass site on the web, add 7000+ great members who are always willing to offer the best advice around, AND NOW DOUG HANNON TO BOOT. This site never ceases to amaze me, I feel like the best luck in my fishing life is finding this site. THANK YOU just doesn't seem to be enough, but THANK YOU GLENN!!!!!!
  9. I can't really compare the two yet, as I have only really shopped at Cabelas because it is only about 20 minutes from me, but one thing that I have been really happy with is the customer service. Their return/exchange policy is wonderful. I have purchased a lot of stuff from them in the store and unfortunately returned a lot of it as well and was never given a hard time about returning it. Most of the stuff that I returned was rods and reels, not because they were crap, but because I didn't like the way they felt, even up to 90 days later, so I could go out buy a rod, fish it to see if i liked it, if not, I knew I could return it with out much hassle. I will probably stop going to Cabelas in the very near future, except for big sales, because the BPS is going to be opening about 10 minutes from home (3 minutes from work) in February, and hopefully I will be getting a job there as well.
  10. I will keep that in mind
  11. I have a Team Daiwa Advantage 7-6 retractable butt MH that has been used maybe twice since I bought it. If you are interested I would be willing to part with it at a very reasonable price.
  12. Thanks for all the good vibes, I get a second interview next week
  13. Lets cross one bridge at time, I first need to get hired, then MY christmas list will change dramatically
  14. the temptation is going to kill me even if I don't get a job there. I work about a mile north of the location, and I drive by it going to and from work. It is only about 5 minute drive to get there from my office so lunch time excursions will be much more frequent than the current ones to Cabelas
  15. I am going to BPS tonight for a job fair for the new store opening in Kansas. I am hoping to land a P/T job to finance the baitmonkey.
  16. Thanks, guys. I think I am going to try the curado on the new rod first and then if need be get a new reel later on.
  17. Thanks, I have the spec sheet at home somewhere in my fishing stash.
  18. I know someone knows, but could you please share with me the weight of the old green curados. I have the CU200, and am trying to decide if I should put it on a Loomis IMX for jigs and worms or if I should try to buy another reel for it. Just to nip it in the bud, I really want a Chronarch 50 MG but I can't afford to get the IMX and the chronarch at the same time.
  19. thanks, the one I am looking at is one from BPS that has the auto inflate and is on sale for $99. It is USCG rate type V, so I am assuming that would be ok keeping in mind that I don't fish out of a boat with a motor, only out of a personal pontoon.
  20. I am needing to buy a life jacket to have on my personal pontoon boat, and want to get something very light and unobtrusive, but yet effective. What is the difference in a USCG rating of 1 versus 4, and which one is better? thanks.
  21. I too am in the same boat as you, no pun intended, being in the market for my first real high end rod, and not wanting to purchase something for that kind of money and then hate it. One thing I have learned with Cabelas is, that they have a great return policy. I can't tell you how many things I have bought from them, tried them out and returned them with no questions asked. Now keep in mind that I am not using them for 2-3 months and then trying to return them, but I will take rods and reels out and give them an honest assessment, and if I don't like them I have had no problems returning them for refund or exchange.
  22. IMO that is a preference call. I use a Heavy most of the time for T rig or jig in 3/8. But the med/hvy works good too. I just like the extra power. I've never thrown an ika but I would think its not much different then a senko, which the MH would be better for. goods of both with what I think. 843 spinnerbaits senkos (ika)? top water like buzzbaits 844 jig t rig c rig With that aside, I would buy the one that you will use more since you are only buying 1 so if you fish a senko 90% of the time I would go with a 843. Just an example. What got my on this kick is I really want to learn how to fish a jig and become more proficent and confident it it. I very rarely fish a senko anymore other than on spinning gear, wacky rigged, but I do fish t- rigs and weightless Ikas, which are far heavier than a weightless senko
  23. Thank you, is the Heavy power necessary for jig and t-rigs in relatively light vegitation and cover, or could I use a MH? How is the H with say, 3/8 oz jigs or weightless Ika's?
  24. I am not totally clear on "loomis speak" I know the 84 is a 7 foot rod, and the last 4 is the action of the tip, but is 4 a fast, slow, moderate tip? I am also trying to stay with 6-6 rod since I usually fish from the bank or from a personal pontoon, but not totaly opposed to a 7 footer
