Kevin VanDam Interview
I met KVD at a sports show here in KC last year and he is about the most normal superstar that you could imagine. He held a seminar on jerkbaits and such, then answered a ton of questions and signed autographs, he signed my copy of one of his books, which is pretty cool. As I was leaving I passed him in the hallway and asked him if I could ask a couple of questions, I was still a little confused at the time about power and action on a rod, and he stopped and explained to me in great detail about the differences. Funny story about that, we actually were standing very near an exhibitor booth that was giving a trip to Orlando away as a drawing, and this guy had no clue who he was talking to, he kept trying to get me and KVD to sign up for this trip to Orlando, and Kevin kept saying I already have a trip to Orlando scheduled in Feb, this was just before the Classic. I looked at Kevin like, "does this guy not get a hint or what". I just had to laugh, think that you are talking to the reigning Classic champion who will be in Orlando in Feb. to defend his title.

personal pontoons
I love mine, but I don't live in the land of alligators. The worst thing I have to worry about is turtles or the occassional snake, but those are few and far between and easy to avoid. You are just asking for a world of hurt by using one in gator country.

Pontoonery
I have had one for about a year, and LOVE IT. I too have built a rod holder and mounted a D/F to it, I am thinking about a TM but I don't fish that big of water that it really comes into play that much, especiallly with the added wight of the battery and motor.

Best Cheap Fishfinder??
I fish from a pontoon/kickboat and just use a 12 volt rechargable battery that I bought from Cabelas. It is pretty small, and cheap, and I don't run any other electronics so it serves it purpose very well.

Float tubes
I agree with the pontoon boat suggestion. I have been fishing out of one for a year now and love it, still have great mobility with fins, very lightweight and very manuverable. I have also rigged a rod holder for 4 rods and have also mounted a depth finder. You sit up well out of the water and they are very stable and easy to transport even without a truck. I actually strap my to the top of my car to get it to the lake. Here is the one I have. http://cabelas.com/cabelas/en/templates/product/standard-item.jsp?id=0035752318813a&navCount=1&podId=0035752&parentId=cat360011&masterpathid=&navAction=jump&cmCat=MainCatcat20431-cat360011&catalogCode=XG&rid=&parentType=index&indexId=cat360011&hasJS=true

Understanding your fish finder
Follow this link, http://www.lowrance.com/Software/PCSoftware/Install/X102C/X102C_demo.asp, and it will allow you to download a emulator. It basically is a program that works on your computer and acts just like you were on the water, it will allow you to sit and have your manual open while seeing what is displayed on the unit. It is basically a demo for your unit. Hope this helps.

What to do with...
I agree with most everyone, that releasing it is the only thing to do. As bad as you feel for potentially "killing" a fish, it won't be nearly as bad as you will feel when the game warden tickets you and possibly takes your gear for illegally taking a fish. :'( There is a post on this forum somewhere, that has a great illustrated way to remove a gut hook, and if that is not an option, just cut as much of the hook out and hope for the best. Maybe someone can post a link to the thread that shows how to remove a gut hook, it has worked almost every time I have ever needed to use it, and the times it didn't, I was able to push the hook through enough to cut off the barb and pull the hook out.

Lowrance Ifinder H2O GPS ????
I was not sure what forum to put this in so Glenn, RW, Etc, if it needs to be moved, I apologize. I am looking to spend some money on a belated birthday present for myself and was intrigued by these units. One question that I have is, do they come pre loaded with any maps or do I have to purchase map cards seperately? Thanks.

Inflatable fishing boat!
Try one of these. They are pretty cheap, very easy to use, very durable and very stable. I have this model and it is very convenient to use, I don't have a truck, but I can transport is on top of my car with very little problem. It weighs about 45lbs assembled. I have it rigged with a rod holder for 4 rods and I also have a depth finder mounted to it. I would definitely suggest getting some scuba fins to manuver with, they make it much easier than the oars, and you still have both hands free to fish with while being able to move around. I can get into a lot of places even a jon boat would have trouble with. You can also mount a trolling motor to it, but it does increase the weight and moves the CoG around. http://cabelas.com/cabelas/en/templates/product/standard-item.jsp?_DARGS=/cabelas/en/common/catalog/item-link.jsp_A&_DAV=MainCatcat20431&id=0035752318813a&navCount=1&podId=0035752&parentId=cat360011&navAction=push&catalogCode=XG&rid=&parentType=index&indexId=cat360011&hasJS=true Here is a website of a fishing club in California that uses these type of boats and float tubes exclusively and they have them really tricked out. http://www.scbbbc.com/gallery.html

Home made spinnerbait question
I don't poor my own lead, but I think there was a topic here a while back asking this similar question, and I believe that the response was that the temperatures to melt Tungsten were so high that it was not feasible and very dangerous. There may have been an issue with fumes as well, being more dangerous than lead.

Bass Pro Shops VS Cabelas
I know I can't wait, I drive by the new BPS everyday and everday I think to myself wow they made a lot of progress today, it won't be long. It is sad to say that when BPS opens, I will probably not be making the 20 minute drive to Cabelas nearly as much unless they have a huge sale or something. That 5 minute drive to the new BPS is going to be a blessing and a curse.

Anyone Else Fish at Lunch?
Maybe the sweat itself doesn't stink, but when you add a couple of Budweisers from the night before, it can get a pretty recognizable "scent" to it by the end of the day. ;D :-[

Anyone Else Fish at Lunch?
I do in the spring and fall, but standing in bright sunshine in 100 degree weather with 110 heat index, is not something I want to do and then have to go back to work. My coworkers would rather me not fish in this heat and come back smelling like I just ran a marathon. :o

Am I a bad Angler?
I don't know what is NORMAL, but most of my days are a lot like yours, 6-8 fish and I am pretty happy with that. If 30,40,50+ days are the NORM, then I guess I suck too. I really think it has a lot to do with time of year, weather, and the body of water itself. Some conditions and water are very condusive to huge numbers of fish, while others may only produce 5-10 fish a day on a good day. The other thing to consider is, what is more fun to you, catching 6-8 real quality fish or 30 dinks?

For Us KC Area Guys - Fishing Reports
Sunday July 10th----Cedar Lake, Olathe I don't know what the water temp was as I was fishing from the bank, but the water was stained and air tmep was in the upper 80's with 100% humidity, it was raining. I was only there for about an hour, throwing a chart/white chatterbait along the shore and near laydowns. I caught one fish but she was a beauty. The strike felt like I was caught in grass, so I ripped it way and it still stayed very mushy, then started to swim away. It never really put up any fight or struggle so I figured it was a small dink, but when she surfaced near the shore, I learned that was not the case. She went for at least 4lbs, my scale was acting funny, but i could fit my entire fist in her mouth.

Carolina Rig Problem
It could be the learder material. Some on this board would say that the berkley Transition is really brittle and can't withstand the hookset, hence a lot of break offs. I personally haven't used it enough to know for sure, I use Yo Zuri regular formula or Seaguer, but then again I don't fish a C-Rig that much.

depth/fish finders
BPS has them for $149, and the portable unit is $199.

depth/fish finders
Check out the Eagle 320, great unit IMO for the price. Very easy to use, good detail, and again very inexpensive.

Eagle Cuda 168 Fish Finder worth it?
Personally, I would spend a few extra bucks and get the Eagle 320, around $130. It will have much better resolutions and show much more detail. It also has a larger screen and is very easy to use.

hey rogue your boys back
I really like Classic Patterns, I have everyone that has been on Tivo'd, and going to copy them to my own DVD. The info on those shows seems to be pretty good, and it is not a big commercial for one company or another. I really like the episode with Marty Stone where he was pitching and flipping and just had a horrible day, lost a lot of fish, and came right out and said later in the show that they had to come back the next day because he didn't catch much of anything the first day.
