  1. Yankee, unfortunately, it was not me. I wish they would do something like that for me, or more so I wish they would turn a beat up old jon boat into a cool one like they did on one of the first episodes. ;D
  2. I think I have my location in my profile, but I live in Olathe, Kansas, a southwest suburb of Kansas City.
  3. It can be fished from the shore but I just don't do use it much. I am more of a power angler, so if possible I try to fish crankbaits, spinnerbaits, stuff like that. Slowing down to fish the dropshot or T-rig for that matter is tough for me, but i try to offer what the fish want, but given a choice, I will be throwin and crankin.
  4. First off welcome the the forum, there is a ton of great information available here, and the people on this site are second to none in willingness to offer advice, suggestions or tips. There was a topic posted about the drop shot here a few days ago that has some great info in it, also if you go to the link Fishing Articles and click on techniques, there are four or so articles about fishing it and rigging it. If those don't answer all of your questions let us know. I don't fish it much since I am a shore angler, but there are several here that do fish it quite a bit. Quick answer is yes the weight it below the hook, therefore keeping it off the bottom. It is a tenique that is primarily used as deep clear water fishing in heavily pressured areas, however it can also be very effective in shollow water especially around the spawn time. Usually it is a light tackle technique, spinning tackle with light line, 4-8 lb line, I like the florocarbon lines because they are basically invisible in the water, but that is a preference thing.
  5. I definitely agree with 5150 on the videos being better than the articles. I bought KVD's book "Secrets of a Champion", read through it and thought I understood it, then I watched BPS's KVD video on spinnerbaits and it was just like a light getting turned on. All of a sudden I just got it. I have ready several postings here on this site about spinnerbait and crankbait colors but was still confused, but after watching some BPS videos I really feel much more confident in selecting colors, blade types and colors and sizes.
  6. Congrats, LBH and Chris
  7. Yes, I have read the Carolina rig tips post but i still have questions. I tried fishing it this weekend and finally go so frustrated that I just quit. Either everywhere I am trying to fish it is just loaded with grass or I am not doing something right. I am fishing it on 6'6" MH rod with a 1 oz tungsten barrel weight and i am picking up som much grass on each cast that i couldn't feel moby dick bite the lure. I am casting it out and dragging it back to me. Is this just the nature of the rig or am I doing something wrong?
  8. Kinda of have to agree with LBH. i bought one that was on clearance from Dick's, took it out and it was reading the bottom at 3 feet for everywhere it casted it, even 20ft off the shore from the dam. Then i was taking with a guy in a boat and he said his depth finder was showing anywhere from 6ft to 30 ft. I ended up taking it back.
  9. KU, what time are you going on Sunday? I may not be able to get out tomorrow and I may have to go on Sunday as well. Just thought i intorduce myself if i see you on Sunday.
  10. Did you happen to get water temp? I may do some wading in the morning to get off the shore.
  11. KU, what were you throwing?
  12. I knew I would catch grief about the "waste of time" comment. :-[ What i really meant it to mean was is it going to be a casting practice or will there be a decent probability of actually catching fish
  13. I know that during the heat of summer, the early morning is a really good time to fish, does that hold true into the fall as well? We just had a pretty strong cold front move through on Wednesday that dropped daytime temps to the 50s and night time temps to the upper 30s/low 40's. I really want to get some fishing tomorrow, but with the air temp in the 40s and the recent cold front, I am wondering if it will be a waste of time.
  14. Thanks, they are not floating cranks. Retrieve speed varies from fast to slow roll, obviously the slow roll would allow it to sink into the grass but i would think that the fast retrieve would keep it above it.
  15. Do smallmouths generally live in moving water like rivers and streams? I have never caught one in any of the smaller lakes I fish. Then again if they require a different type of lure or bait than LM that could be a reason i have never caught them either.
  16. When you fish a lipless crankbait, does it dive to a specific depth during the retrieve, or does it run gennerally at the depth you let is sink to before starting your retrieve? The reason I ask is that was fishing an area that has grass beds about 4 feet down, but even if i started my retrieve the minute the crank hits the water it always seems to dive into the grass beds.
  17. What is it exactly? I keep hearing the term in regards to fishing Senko, Tikis, etc, but I am not sure exactly what it is.
  18. KU, yeah it was kill creek, but it was two guys in a blue fishing boat. Looked to be an older model boat, almost looked like a converted ski boat. I have seen the other your talking about, the ones in the green bass boat have been pretty civil, must have seen them after you got ahold of them. I have seen several in converted jon boats but these guys were the first ones that have ever done that. I have actually had guys ask me if i minded if the stayed off shore but casted to the area i was in.
  19. Yeah, so will a filet knife, but i really don't want to damage their vehicle, just a little revenge. Who knows they may just be a little slowand not know they were doing something that inconsiderate.
  20. There are a couple of reasons why I didn't say anything. First, I didn't take my blood pressure medicine and secondly, they were a couple of younger guys, dressed in baggy shorts, hats turned sideways, may by sterotypical, but they looked as though they would have been more than willing to take it to another level if provoked rather than talking about it rationally, and it was not worth the hassle.
  21. I usually fish a small lake, 20ish acres. One end has a dam and the other end is flooded timber, almost the entire lake is ringed by cattails growing on the edge of the lake except for the dam. Last night I was fishing off the dam area in the corner of the lake so I could cast parallel to the cattails, keep in mind a lake this small the corners are a pretty small area. So I am fishing a crankbait along the edges and I hear two guys in a boat. They are trolling down the sides of the lake casting towards the shore, and I figure they will just bypass the corner I am fishing in, but when i turned around to grab a different rod and reel, they just pull their boat into the corner and start fishing in the spot i was casting. Not keeping the boat out in deeper water and casting into the are I was fishing but they pulled the boat right on in so that I couldn't fish that area anymore. Well I had been there for about an hour and not caught anything so I decided that i would move to another corner. Well, you guessed it they did the same thing to me in that corner, i was even casting my crankbait withing a couple feet of the boat , but they obviously couldn't take a hint. By that time it was pretty dark so rather than starting an arguement or fight I decided to call it a night. Long story short, a new piece of "equipment" going in my tacklebox is a valve stem remover, and the next time these d*cks ppull that, they will come back to the boat dock to find four flat tires on their truck, not slashed jsut the air let out.
  22. Costas, and I love them. I will agree with Hydrilla they do seem to to be a bit darker than the other cheap lenses I have, but after having a Cornea transplant this summer, a little darker is a good thing for me. By the way Hydrilla, have you and the better half had the new little one yet? If so congrats.
  23. How do you do it?
  24. :-[ Thanks, i should have figured it would be something that simple. I just thought that was too obvious so I must be missing something.
