I need to get a new headlamp, and need some help. I am not sure what color of light to get. I am fairly certain that I don't want a white light, but I am not sure if green or red would be better. I know that red is better for night vision but but green seems to offer the best solution for being able to discern colors. Does anyone have one or the other that they can comment on?
  2. That would be the best option, IMO
  3. He will probably need to go to whoever his cellular carrier is and get a wireless card from them. Theoretically speaking he would be able to access the internet as long as he has a wireless signal. They usually run about $50ish for the card and about $50 month for the service. The other option would be to put a wireless b/g/n network card in the computer, however this would require him to be near a WIFI hotspot that he could use. This may not be the best option if he is driving all over or in businesses or locations that don't offer WiFi.
  4. Couple questions, did you finalize the disk? Did you burn it on a CD-R or CD-RW?
  5. I hadn't heard that, when are the closing it and starting the draining process? I have lost a few lure in that lake, I may need to head out there and see if i can recover a few. Unfortunately, I can't say that I am super disappointed in the news, I have never had much success there myself, although it is sad that an old established body of water is gong to be gone, not to mention the park and playgrounds for the kiddos.
  6. Mine is from Cabelas and it breaksdown to fit in a backpack if you wanted it to. I usually just leave the frame assembled and deflate the pontoons for transportation. I used to leave it completely assembled and inflated and just hauled it on top of my Mitz Galant, but it took up too much space in my garage, that is why I started deflating the pontoons.
  7. Huskertko: Big Husker Fan, T= first initial, KO= first two initials of last name. See, thats why I like this thread. I always thought of a knock out when I saw the TKO Unfortunately, seeing how the Husker defense has played that last few years, there has been very few knockouts of the good kind coming from Lincoln :-[ :'(
  8. I have had one for about 2 years now, they are very stable and I would say very safe. They are great for small lakes, ponds, etc, or even larger lakes in the small coves, but I wouldn't take mine out in open water on a large lake with boat traffic, you sit too low to the water to be very visible to other boats. My only problem is the wind, they are very light, even though I am not, :) and they get pushed around pretty easily. As far as anchors, I just use those old plastic weights that are filled with concrete, use two to hold a position, or you will just get pushed around in a circle.

  10. Has anyone had a chance to use it, if so what is your opinion? Supposedly, it is a superline that is very visible above water but seemingly disappears underwater. I am a little reluctant to buy into that theory, being it is basically a braided line, but I have been wrong a couple of times in my life, so I guess this could be another time.
  11. Count me in that group!!!! ;D I guess it's all in what "floats your boat" so to speak. I have personally owned two Jons ....... one 12 ft that we just kept at a pond we had permission to fish. It was very basic. No mods just bench seats. Worked fine, but was pretty uncomfortable to fish out of. Then last year I bought a 14ft and did a mini-bass mod to it with a front deck, floors and seats. Well with the front deck in it was way too top heavy. So I re did the mod much like LBH's with no deck. It was better, but it was still too tipsy for my liking. That is a big deal for me. If I ever get another Jon it will be one of the BIG ones ..... which would be way too big to throw in the bed of a truck. So specifically about the "Pond Hoppers" they have at BPS now. The company that makes them for BPS (I guess) is the same brand boat that I have had now for 12 years. I think they are about the best quality Pond Hopper you can get. Like I said I have had it for 12 years. I have beat the crap out of it (the first 10 years I threw it in and out of a truck bed) and it has been stored outside underneath the deck in all the elements. This is the first year I have ever had a leak .......... but it's not from being on the water. Rain water can seap in through the handle area. Should be a quick fix this winter, but for now I just have to turn it over and let the water drain for about 10 to 15 minutes. I have NEVER had water leak in while on the water. As far as room .... I have had no issues. Sure with 2 people you have to be cautious, but it's not a real big issue. Solo .... don't know how much more room you would need from a small vessel. I also like that they have the side areas to put your rods so they are out of they way. that was always an issue for me with jons. And then the biggest plus for me is STABILITY .... no way can you find a jon that is the same size that is that stable. Plus we fush the same areas so I know the boat works well for waters around the area .... Kill Creek, Lone Star, Gardner, SM Park, Lake Olathe, Bone Creek, Louisberg, the strip pits down in Pittsburgh, etc etc etc Thank KU, I think i am leaning that way just from the convenience of throwing it in my truck and going, the only problem is that not too may people are selling them on craigslist right now, hopefully that will change as winter gets closer.
  12. It looked as though he was using braided line, which after a while will tend to fade and become very light to white color. He was using the black marker to make the line less visible. A lot of people that us Hi Vis yellow braid for plastics and jigs will color the last 3-5 feet of line, they can easily see the yellow line but it is less visible to the fish.
  13. Unfortunately, I have never found anything on Ebay less than 4 hours away from my house, with gas prices the way they are, it would eliminate any savings on a used boat if I had to spend just as much in gas as the cost of the boat.
  14. As far as weight goes, all I need to be able to do is lift the front end in the truck and then slide it in the rest of the way. I am trying to avoid having to get a trailer for the boat since I really don't have the storage space for a trailered boat.
  15. I am looking to get a small boat for small county lakes that are electric only and I need some advice. I am looking at either a Bass Pro pond hopper or a jon boat, the catch is financially, I can only affort about $500 max for the boat, so my question is this. Which would you get, the 9' pond hopper or a 10' jon boat. I am looking for something that is pretty stable and that I can fit in the back of my Ford Explorer Sport Trac, that is another reason why I am limited on size. I have been looking at Craigslist, but haven't found anything that has really jumped out and said buy me.
  16. See my credit union does this but only reverse, they only preauthorize for $1 so when I go online to check my running balance it always show higher than what it should be because even though I put $40 of gas in, it is only showing an authorization of $1. It has bit me a time or two, I look to see if I have enough in my account to buy some more fat Ikas, go get them and a day later I am close to being overdrawn because I forgot the gas transaction.
  17. I was really suprised, after I caught her and fished the area a little more, I walked over and the water in that area was only about 2-3 feet deep, so she was pretty shallow.
  18. Didn't have my camera, because I really hadn't planned on going fishing, I was running some other errands and just decided to stop by the lake to wet a line.
  19. I caught a new PB at Shawnee Mission last night. I posted about it in the Outings forum. If you haven't been there lately, it has been drawn down a lot so they can work on the upper end, you can actually walk all the way around it with out having to tromp through the forest on the south side.
  20. I scored a new personal best last night, even though I didn't have a scale to "officially" weigh it. Judging by its weight compared to the gallon of milk I bought shortly after catching it, I would estimate 5+ easily. It was by far the largest bass I have ever caught. I was fishing at Shawnee Mission Lake in KC, for those KC folk, and they have drawn the lake down considerably to do some work on the upper end. I was fishing near the dam and there were a lot of baitfish jumping in the corner where I was at. I tossed a Fat Ika to a small out cropping of rock, felt a thump and then the line went slack. I reeled in the slack as much as I could and set the hook. I seriously thought I had a striper or a channel cat as much as it was fighting, but alas it was a very chunky LB, that easily set my new PB. Just thought I would share, mye heart was racing for about the next 15 minutes, and I couldn't concentrate worth a dang for a while.
  21. How did the trip to Cedar Lake go? I have had very little success out there myself meaning catching very few fish, although the ones I have caught have been quality fish, 2-5lbs. I had someone with KWP tell me that they have shocked several fish over 8lb out ther, but I always find the water is like fishing in chocolate milk.
  22. Yeah, it is a little embarrassing because the reason I used that club, was because I couldn't hit it anymore :-[
  23. I was a 4 handicap before I started fishing. I have my degree in golf course management, but don't use it anymore, other than on my yard, which at the moment doesn't reflect my abilities. I am like KU in the sense that I haven't played in about 3 yrs but every now and then I get a small urge to go practice for a while. I actually thought fishing would be a less expensive hobby, but boy was I grossly incorrect. :'(. I will probably start playing here again soon, my 4 yr old son definitely has some skills when it comes to hitting a golf ball. I built him a junior club out of an old Ping 1 iron I didn't use anymore and he used to be allowed to hit real golf balls, until one day he hit one across the street and hit the neighbors car on the fly, about a 30-40 yrd carry.
  24. I am not sure if this question needs to be here or other species forum. so mods if it needs to be moved I apologize. I want to get a crappie set up and not sure if I need a dedicated one or if the Shimano convergence medium rod will work. If I need a dedicated one, any suggestions for under $75?
  25. Couldn't have said it better, it is kind of like the saying coaches have about retirement, if your thinking about it, it is already time to pull the trigger. I bought cheap rods then moved up to better rods, then finally bought my first loomis. Now it is just a matter of time until the wallet weighs enough to buy another one.
