WOW. Beautiful fish.

Well I finally got a chance to get out on the water for a bit today and do some fishing. It had been over a month since I last got to cast a bait & I was just about to go crazy. I made my usual trip out to Lake Fork to fish for a day with my dad. The sun was bright, it was pretty darn hot, 94, & not much breeze at all so I figured that now was as good a time as ever to try & figure out deep water cranking. I've never put much time into deep cranking & it's definitely one of my biggest fishing weaknesses. So my dad & I went to one of our "hot spots" & used the electronics to find something out deeper that looked "bassy". Once again I'm a shallow water fisher & don't use my electronics much so this day was a BIG learning experience for me. We found a channel that was about 3' deeper then the rest of the area & dropped some markers. Dad worked it over with a C-Rig & I was working on my cranking. About 10 min into fishing dad landed a nice 3lber then I landed a really fat 4lber. Didn't take pictures of these because I totally forgot I had a camera on board >. Oh well. About 25min after that I got hung up in some weeds and was bringing it up to the surface when a beautiful 7lber jumped out & spit my hook. HAHA. Yeah I'm not used to fishing with a fiberglass rod & I totally did not know that I had a fish on. The really sad thing is that the same thing happened again 5min later with a 5lber. Lesson learned. Next time I felt that little heavy tug I gave the rod a nice sweep to the side ended up bringing this nice post spawn bass up. Went for 5lbs 7oz. I ended up catching 1 more on the day giving me 3 fish & dad boated 4 nice fish. All in all a fantastic day, not because of the fishing but more because of all that I learned. I'm not going to say that I have great confidence in deep diving crankbaits but my confidence is growing quickly

I mainly hunt Hogs. Many times crawling on my hands & knees to get to their areas. Hog hunting is much more fun then deer hunting to me although I do love deer hunting.

Liked the 1st one better but not by much. Ironman 2 was very very good. Mickey Rourke played a really good bad guy I thought.

Nice job. Really nice looking fish. Man was it ever windy yesterday. Steady at about 15mph but the news said that there were gusts up to 40mph.

I foul hooked a 3' gar once on purpose with a jerk bait because I hadn't caught anything yet that day. Very stupid thing to do. I got it to the boat, the lure was near the tail flopping around, & my bud in the back of the boat said "what are you going to do now Einstein?" and kept fishing. After much blood (seriously it bleed all over my deck) & close calls from the teeth & the treble hooks in the tail I finally got it off & let it go. As for them being part alligator, not true at all. However they do have the ability to breathe small amounts of air, allowing them to live in waters that are low in oxygen. Kind of cool if you ask me.

Love to sight fish. Hate it when the wind picks up when I'm sight fishing >

Beautiful Smallie. Great post. I totally know what you mean about tensing up when you know the strike is coming. Once you see the fish it's almost like it becomes top water fishing in that you have to wait to really feel the fish before setting the hook.

Well, glad you got your answer. I can't tell you how many times I've caught all the fish off the front of the boat or my bud has caught all the fish off the back of the boat. I've come to the conclusion that most of the time it's about casting angles. Being at the front or back of the boat gives you a different set of angles that the other angler can't always reach. This tends to be a little more common when running an area with hard cover.
