  1. My main goal is to make the cankbait a confidence bait. I've got to get better at cranking. Second, how to properly use & read my depth/fish finder.
  2. 1. Knowing what areas I'm weak in. 2. Being humble enough to ask for help. 3. The ability to learn, remember, & execute what I was taught. 4. Having confidence that I have the ability to catch fish anywhere, any time, in any condition. 5. (Bonus) Having a wonderful outlook on life. If I don't catch a single fish, at least I got to spend a day on the water.
  3. Dang. I clicked on this thread with my answer in mind thinking "ohhh I wonder if anyone has said senko yet". Well.....never mind.
  4. Congrats my man. I love coyote hunting. & yes that is a very nice sized coyote.
  5. As far as the fishing "pros" go I would love to sit down with these three guys. 1.) Al Lindner 2.) Alton Jones 3.) Bill Siemantel But most of all I would have loved to sit down with my late great uncle who taught my dad how to fish. He could just flat out catch any fish, any time, any where.
  6. I can see it possibly making a difference in really clear lakes. However the lakes that I fish are not particularly clear, therefor the stock colors work just fine for me.
  7. Weightless T-rig for me as well. But if i need it to get down a little further i'll use a nail weight in the body as apposed to a bullet weight. I like that the nail weight allows the fluke to fall naturally. The downside to adding a nail weight is that it takes away some the action.
  8. Hello. As you have already found out, you'll get many different opinions. So here is my setup. I use a revo winch. I like the slower retrieve, 5.1:1. As stated before it keeps the lure in the strike zone for a longer period of time & more importantly for me it provides the necessary power that you need if you hook up with a true giant. My rod is an Okuma big bait rod 7'11" heavy action. Last we come to the line. For now I am using 20lb-25lb Sufix mono. I have used braided line & i like that as well but i like the stretch that mono gives me. So my best advise for you is to try out different combinations until you find what works best for you. (edit) Wow I didn't even see where it said (money minnow/sexy shad style). Way to pay attention huh. That's what I get for watching a movie & reading reading this forum at the same time. For that style of swimbait I use 17lb - 20lb fluoro.

Man those are some beautiful fish. Absolutely perfect color & markings on them. I love it when they are dark like that.
  11. Good old gift cards to Bass Pro & Gander Mountain. Can't go wrong with those.
  12. Merry Christmas my friends.
  13. What a fish. Great catch man.
  14. X2. Costa Del Mar glasses are great but would be an expensive gift. I own a pair of the Native Silencers and love them. I've compared them side by side with my fishing buds Del Mar 580s & thought they worked just as good. The only difference was that the Del Mars would be a little more comfortable during all day use.
  15. The fish in my av is my biggest. 9lbs. Caught on a 5" Jaw Jack hollow body swimbait in the shad color.
  16. * jaw-jack swimbaits are fantastic. Fish it with a #6, 3/16oz, or 1/4oz, gamakatsu superline spring lock hook. Always done the trick for me. It's what I caught the fish in my AV with.
  17. Nice job. As you said at least you were not out a couple of days ago. It really did get quite chilly.
  18. Beautiful fish man.
  19. Congrats my friend, that's a nice fish.
  20. Fork is has been my home lake my whole life. Jan & Feb you have a chance to catch a true monster. The problem is that you may never get a chance to get out on the water. At that time of the year it is so hit or miss with the weather that it's hard to plan a trip. The last few years I've moved my Fork trips back to late March & done much much better in both quality & numbers. With that being said, if your set on Jan & Feb I would go to Falcon.
  21. Way to go bud. Nice catch.
  22. Save a little more money and buy a Mattlures hard gill. The Giron is a good bait but it has such an aggressive action to it that I find it only does well when the fish are actively feeding. Other wise they just don't seem to want to chase down a lure that's darting side to side so quickly. Also if you reel to quickly it will roll over. Once again I would just save up a little more & buy a hard gill.
  23. Let the fish tell you. Sometimes i'll cast right onto a pad & let it sit on top for 20 seconds or so then pull it off & catch a fish that has just been waiting. Other times i've got to work it quite fast. I would try a couple different approaches until you catch one.
  24. Put me down for MattLures as well. A close second has to go to this guy http://www.bassresource.com/bass_fishing_forums/YaBB.pl?num=1244397175/0#0
  25. Beautiful fish. I would guess between 5 - 6 lbs. Hard to tell. Get a scale & then you'll know for sure. Of course once you get that scale all your fish are going to miraculously shrink.
