  1. So like the title says I just won a TD Advantage 2500A spinning reel. But I am finding little about the reel. Anyone here have one or used one? Reel is smooth but the retrieve speed is slower than I am used to. I also am not crazy about plastic grip on the handle. Looking at a rod for it also. Id like to go with a med light/ fast. Something for a 6-8lb class and smallmouths.
  2. If you are gonna use it alot get the Symetre FJ. I have three now and looking at buying more.
  3. You would need to know the Actual designation. Could be on the reel or the spool itself with the later models. Everything past the current model is off Shimano's list of reels they will repair. To send a reel in its $35 though. The FI retailed about $25 cheaper anyway new. I just go get a new one and be done.
  4. New Shimano Symetre are all j-series. Be it FJ or RJ. The FJ is a Front drag. The RJ is a Rear drag. The rear drag has the Fighting Drag II feature. The FJ is considerably lighter in weight than a RJ.
  5. Two reels come to mind: A Pro Qualifier and Diawa Exceler.
  6. Id took a picture of it with my cell to start. Get the evidence. Then I d raised hell til I got it for that price. He may not have wanted to but I bet someone up the ladder would have sold it for $99.
  7. I do ALOT of trout fishing. I will give you some of my go to lures. 1) Berkley Powerbait Trout worms. Carolina rigged. 2) Blue fox Vibax Minnow 3) #2 size blade gold spinners. 4) Little Cleo Spoons 5) Up to #9 Original Rapalas
  8. I have the Symetre myself and love it. I also just got a 600 Series Abu Cardinal. Specs match the SoronSX and it was only $50.
  9. I noticed that also and was surprised to see him using that rod for cranking. It was over 7' so it had to be at least a MH and fast action. I thought the same thing when he lost that fish. I love all my Veritas but until and if they add an actual cranking rod to their line up I will keep using my E21 cranking stick... Could've been the rod. Could've been an inexperienced angler. X2 the Inexperience. I watched it. And he was FREAKING OUT!!
  10. Yum Dinger, Bitsy Tubes, and Super Fluke JR.
  11. : I feel left out. Tying , cutting, changing lures, and retying. I never get to see the fade to white. :-/
  12. Three things I found that help with the line twist on spinning reels. 1) Follow the reels instruction on spooling it. Just dont flop down the spool. My shimanos said spool similar to a baitcaster. When I started doing this the twist ended. 2) Make sure the line roller is rolling. If it doesn't it will twist line. 3) Close the bail manually. Makes a huge difference in the twist problem. Some lures are prone to twisting line. Nature of the beast. Plastics, when reeling in to recast, tend to spin for me more that other baits, even more than most inline spinners.
  13. It's kind of funny that US Bass Anglers view Two piece rods this way. Look at the web sites of your favorite manufacturer around the world and chances are their best rods are two or multi- piece rods. Different strokes... I guess. : For the most part with a quality rod, there is now just a slight increase in the rod weight. The rods are easier to transport also. If you think about it, one of most folks heaviest rods is two piece and it relies on sensitivity and strength. Those telescoping Flipping Sticks.
  14. I have never had the binding issue with a symetre. I have had 4 generations of them. I use them river wading both for trout and smallmouth. I have used them in the ocean surf casting. I have only had issue with a 750FI that I abused. I have a 1000FJ that has two years of heavy use on smallmouths and trout that is as smooth as new. I have a 500FJ that is close to year of spinner cranking for tailrace browns that is flawless. I have a new 2500FJ waiting to be put to it this spring. It replaced a 2000FH that I used everywhere from bluegill to surf to rivers and then sold here. (wish I had kept it!) No binding. They have been dunked, drowned and sprayed. Great reels.
  15. Zetabait Gillraker.
  16. Original Triumphs were made in China. I have had a few and they were good rods. I still have a 5' UL that is a GREAT rod. They have since moved them to the Mexico plant. So current rods are USA or Mexico.
  17. I liked the feel of the Carrots myself. Went to a local shop and asked about them. They said 7 were out for repair and had a broken one on the counter. Guy told me, "There are two kinds of Carrot Sticks: the broken ones and the one that are gonna break."
  18. Everyone needs a Few Origanal Rapalas
  19. If you are gonna put a heavy wire hook through bone....mh/fast or H/xtra fast is best.
  20. Yep love this trick. Been doing it the last few years. Works really well for worm & jig rods. Balance the weight slightly to your end, too.
  21. I'll Take Shimano for Spinnning. Hands down Everytime! For baitcaster it is open territory. Abu, Shimano, and Diawa have all been good to me. Have been looking at the BPS reels some this month and liking them too.
  22. Rebel Black Star. Color C Lector bait colors. Sugar Shad- I forget who made it. Bagley lures. Remember the Smoo and the Fat Cat.
  23. Rattlin' Rapalas have been favorites in rivers. And burn'em. Found that out reeling in for the next cast one day.
  24. Read the Article in FLW mag a couple years ago when I was getting an oil change at Walmart one morning. Neat idea on the setup. Don't know if I "Need" one though.
