Berkley Bionix Rods
I have a 6' Medium. IM-7 and SIC guides. I found it at Walmart close to 7 years ago. $5 on clearance. I wouldn't take $500 for it. It is the rod I am holding in the profile picture. Caught alot of fish with it, fresh and salt. Would love to have another.

Best way to punch through Milfoil?
Frog legs are delicious. ;D But go with heavy lead. 1 oz plus. Big jigs are great. Heavy line. 20 lb + mono or 50 lb + braid. Cast up rather than pitch. Should drive into the mat for ya. I love fishing the slop.

Float-n-fly
Loved that video. Proves what I know. The F-n-F is Crappie fishing. Guys around here were fishing that way when I was a kid. Works great for Crappie. And smallmouth too. For some reason I just get tickled when I see an article about it. Whole Idea, be it crappie or bass is find the depth the fish are at, set the bobber that deep, cast out, bring back just fast enough to keep slack out of line, and wait for bobber to go down. Marketing has jumped on it. Now you NEED special equipment.

most influential bait of the decade
Have to be the Senko type baits. Every manufacture of soft plastics has them. Put a hook in it and toss it out. And it can catch fish. The Fluke/Sluggo would be next. Although you do something to it. Swimbaits. I dont think they come close. I think they fill a niche. And are still evolving. Swimbaits are from outsized Crankbaits to Paddletail worms.

using spray on scent
I dont use a scent on reaction type baits. More suttle presentations like a worm or jigs I use something. Be it a Berkley Power product or a salt impregnated lure. The little extra time I get that a fish has the lure in its mouth gives me that much of an advantage.

The bait monkey ain't just about baits.
Yep. Been doing the same thing here. Winter and lack of fishing time will drive you nuts.

Reel troubles
Sounds like the clutch is going out or you got oil in it. Either would explain slipping. May be able to clean the clutch. Never tried. Check shimano to see if they have it available if you want to keep the reel. Or check for parts, either in a repair shop or a reel from a fleamarket or E-bite. Having a favortie reel die is like loosing a best friend.

I need A New Spinning Rod=Which Of These 3 ?
Yes. From there website. The Triumph, Premier, and Mojo are all three Graphite II. Same blanks. Components are different.

I need A New Spinning Rod=Which Of These 3 ?
I would have to say the BPS rod. I just like the looks of it. The Mojo Rod is a Joke in my book. And I love St Croix rods. I just think the balance is off and the rod has the same blank as the MUCH CHEAPER Triumph. Lots of folks like'em. I dont. I have a friend that got a Premier on E-bite that had been modified to split grip. Best $40 he spent. The rod is actually balanced and fishes Great. The Falcon I know nothing about. But the BPS is on sale and cheaper than the Triumph I mentioned.

Favorite set-up for smallmouth
I love the light tackle for smallie but a bigger fish takes bigger tackle. I fish more small rivers and have the blessing of lots of 21+ smallies in those rivers. For me the rod and reel in my profile photo is working. Its a Curado 200E7 and an older Berkley Fast action Bionix 6' Med with SIC guides. The IM-7 graphite has just enough give for topwater but backbone for weeds. The high speed of the Curado lets me keep up with the current. I spool with 10lb Stren High Impact or a leader of the same and 6/20 PP. I can throw weightless SuperFluke Jr's and Dingers across the river no problem.

Whats the right size spinning reel?
Go with the reel that balances to YOUR feel. Either will work.

High Speed reels?
I use the high speed reels for river smallies. It helps keep up with the current in the smaller rivers I fish. I dont think that you can reel fast enough to take a lure from a smallie if he wants it anyway. So for me it is a matter of keeping contact. Go back ten years and a 6:1 was high speed. Go back another ten and a 5:1 was high speed. I remember a 4.7:1 on the ABU's being a high speed. I think as technology gets better and allows better gearing faster retreives with be seen. High torque and pressure on the gearing will wear on any gear set. Just the quality of the gears that determines how long the gears will last.

ebay?
Bought and sold on there for years. Never a problem. Just ask questions before you buy. Great deals on older reels.

Mepp's Bucktail Spinners?
Fished the Mepps for trout. Actually used them this past year for river smallies for the first time. Used the Single hook versions. Put a 3" grub on the back of a #1 or #2 Aglia. Caught fish all day and very few hangups. Thinking Some larger #3's are getting bought before spring.

Favorite spinnerbailt trailer?? or do you use one??
Split tail worm or a 4" grub. Always a Trailer hook!

Bagley Lures
Just thought I would ask and see who still use them. Dont hear anything local about them anymore. The DB III used to be the lure. Two tackle shops carried walls of Bagley lures. Even custom painted. Now Nothing. I still have a box of Honey B's and Bitty Craws that I use for river smallmouth.

1000 or 2500 size spinning reel?
I use a 1000 on an 5' UL st croix. I use a 1000 on a 6' L. Looking at a 3000 for a 7' Med. I use a 4000 on a 7' Med Hvy. I am thining on selling a 2000 and a 750 symetre as I like the above better. The 2500 and 3000 are same size but the 3000 has a bit more Line capacity (deeper spool) and better handle. The 1000 FJ and 750FI are about the same size. I have put a 750 FI spool on a 1000FJ. 1000 FJ has faster gearing. I use it for small stream smallmouth or trout. 2000 is a great reel but heavier than the 1000FJ. Ern

Help me pick a rod??
I beleive the Mojo, Truimph and Premier all have the same blank in the St Croix line. Other than comestics the blanks are their stain II graphite. I have several of the Triumphs and a couple Avids. For Carolina and Jigs, I would squirrel a few more dollars and get an Avid. Lighter and more sensitive. Ern

Curado dilemma
You could put a wanted add in the classified for a handle from where someone else upgraded. Also check the Bay for a handle too. Ern
