  1. COOL WATER
  2. Jerkbait or spinnerbait if fish are suspended Jig or carolina rig if they're on the bottom
  3. You should see all the bugs and spiders that live and grow under docks. You can see alot when you're swimming up under them retrieving your favorite Lucky Craft thats gotten hung on some stray piece of rope. It's even scarier when you hit the water and you see a huge Rottweiler barreling down the hill towards the dock.....you dont know if he's planning to swim or what.
  4. Anybody who finishes lower than Byron Velvick has no fishing credibility in my book. ;D
  5. I'll take Peyton for the first 8 games and then switch to Brady for the last 8 plus the playoffs and Super Bowl.Hows that? ;D
  6. Casting into the wind will cause that too.Your bait is casted, pulling the usual amount of line, wind catches it,slows it down and the spool over-runs.Happens all the time. Once you fully get the hang of your reel, you'll be able to feel a backlash starting to happen with your thumb as well as hear it.Anytime you feel something weird going on,put your thumb on the spool and stop it immediately.
  7. I havent heard anything about TS lately but I sure do like their jigs.I hope they still continue to sell them in the future.
  8. I agree about the advantage factor.A few people at the weigh-in were wondering the same thing as you but it is legal. His dad let him in an area, not just a certain hole or dock.I heard some say that "dad" was back there guarding that stretch from other anglers coming in before Jr got there but there would be no way to prove that really.Jr had 4 and went way back in Gills to try for his fifth, his dad happened to be there. They talked, dad wasnt in contention to win so he pulled out and let Jr fish down that stretch. Its not like dad gave him a fish from his livewell......Jr still had to make the fish bite, fight the fish and boat the fish. However,I do think things would've been different if it had been some other angler in there instead of his dad. I'm sure it happens some on every tour and at every level.....its really no different than talking to other contestants at the hotel. They share certain info and lots of them are good friends off the water.I bet it happens in alot of tournaments actually. Hoyt Jr did a whale of a job all 3 days.He caught a limit each day under very tough conditions.Day 1 was 24 degrees at blast off plus rain late in the day,Day 2 was steady rain ALL DAY,Day 3 was high sun and unbearable winds.Congrats to him.
  9. If the vegetation allows it,try a jerkbait in a silver/minnow/shad color.Another thing to try is a carolina rig making really long casts with a really small plastic bait in an earthy color.(Brown, green, sand)

  11. LBH,funny you started this thread.....the end of that last message you left on my phone was overheard by the wife. ;D She said "Is that Frank?" I said no,thats Russ. Frank is my dad's next door neighbor.....who moved here from Jersey. You sounded just like him,no kidding.I didnt think you're accent would be that thick but I found out different after I bought some new speakers and heard it on one of your videos. And I thought Cholly Mooah (Charlie Moore) had an accent.

  13. Just back from final weigh in......Hoyt Jr won it by 1 oz over Dudley. He took home about $30 grand cash and a fully rigged Triton worth $45,000.Both guys had limits today,Dudley claimed to have "sandbagged too much" the first day.
  14. Prespawn: brown or red craw Postspawn: baby bass Summer: shad, parrot or green tiger (10's & 16's) Fall: shad or brown craw
  15. Today was definitely a better day at the weigh-in stand."Cheeseburger" made a big jump after a ZERO yesterday,he brought 17-15 to the scales today, anchored by a 7+ pounder.Ike also had a ZERO yesterday but brought a limit today. The leader,Hoyt Jr is on some good fish and most of all,he's able to get them to bite. He's got a 2.5 lead on Dudley as it sits now.I talked with a co-angler and he says Dudley is throwing the biggest jig he's ever seen. Should be interesting tomorrow, supposed to be real heavy winds.Hoyt Jr may be hard to beat,he's got a solid pattern going......but you cant count out Dudley,he's in 2nd right now,he knows the lake as well as anybody and he won the last BASS Northern here in October, 2 years ago, with terrible conditions then also.
  16. I've done that twice before but this time it just "blue-screened" ......I tried about 5 different games and none worked. I will buy anything EXCEPT electronics from eBay.
  17. My son's PS2 has quit working so I have to get him another one.Does anybody know where the best deal might be?I'd like to get the console, controllers, memory card(s) and maybe a few games.Any suggestions?
  18. Just back from the weigh-in,almost every fisherman claimed that it was a real tough bite today.Air temp at blast off was 24 degrees.119 boats,13 limits.Kotaro Kiriyama had a monster that won him big bass of the day.(And most likely the whole tournament).....the beast weighed 7-15. Notable that blanked today: IKE......didnt even show his face near the stage. CITGO Bassmaster Northern Tour Smith Mountain Lake, Moneta, Va. 19. Congrats JT,glad to see you post again.Real healthy looking 7 pounder you got there.
  20. Orion by Metallica.....its an instrumental on the Master of Puppets CD.At least give it a listen,it starts slow but it all kicks in soon enough. That song would give your video a real sharp edge ......(not that it needs it) Real nice bass by the way.
  21. I've used the f-n-f with some success on Smith Mtn in the winter and early spring. The way I do it is to figure out what depth the fish are holding (which is important) and set my speed stop at that depth or just shallower on my fluorocarbon line. For best results, always have your bait either at the same depth or just above the depth that the fish are holding. In my opinion, speed stops work best plus you can cast with them (they spool onto your reel with the line) I typically like to fish the f-n-f along rock bluffs,rip-rap banks or points where fish like to stack in cold weather. If you've got current you can float it thru an area, otherwise you're basically just fishing small areas, reeling in very small amounts at a time.If you are definitely on top of fish, the best thing I've found to work is to just barely shake your bait so it will sit in place and quiver. I like a 1/16 oz hair jig in silver/black or some type of white/silver......anything to match a small minnow or shad.
  22. You sure are taking alot of bets for the Fork trip......you bringin' your wallet? :-? Russ, thats an awesome day, despite the live bait interference penalty! ;D
  23. The very best way to identify a rock bass is to be alert as to what happens after the hookset.......the fish will fight for exactly TWO seconds, then float to the top to be reeled in like a body surfer, skimming across the water like a champ. If that happens, its a rock bass for sure!
  24. 5th aint bad,how many teams fished it?
  25. The Supreme is not alot different from the President in my opinion (I own both), but I hear the '07 Summit will be.
