electrofishing
I witnessed the Va Game Dept shocking Smith Mtn Lake a few years back.It was neat seeing all the fish that float up.You really dont know how many fish there are in an area until you see the water shocking in person.I was really surprised and started fishing alot slower after that. They would go into a cut off the main lake and shock it and the fish just floated up.......bluegills everywhere, huge carp, cats,lm bass,sm bass, you name it.Very interesting.

LH or RH?
I think at some point in our fishing careers pretty much everyone has used a Zebco closed face reel. They are right hand reels. That was my problem,I learned casting with that Zebco and the first baitcaster I got was the same.I never switched. When I did try to switch to lefties,I just couldnt do it and didnt take the time to learn. Now I'm trying it again (left elbow problem) and am taking only my lefty reels to the lake. It's helping, although I catch myself every now and then switching hands out of habit and trying to reel something that is not there. ;D I do know that I have better feel and am more coordinated using my dominant hand (right) to hold and control the rod.My jig fishing improved immediately.

Better Senses
;D ;D If you did the earplug thing and eyes closed thing, you're feel would improve tremendously in my opinion......but your boat handling skills would suffer or if you're bank fishing, you may end up wet.

buying used gambler
WHY NOT ??? Please tell me. Gamblers are great boats in my opinion.I like everything about mine.Best features are that they have no wood (that will rot) and are very well built. They handle like you are on a rail around corners and do great in big waves. Gamblers are not mass produced like other big name boat companies,so there are no details "over-looked".They also hold their value pretty good in case you sell it down the road. .......and I had no problems getting insurance. Check your PM box (messages)

Thoughts on Topwater and "Big" bass
I have caught fish up to about 6# on topwater......mainly a buzzbait.Anything over 6# has been caught on plastics and the occasional deep crank. A question for those of you that have caught 8+ pounders on a topwater bait.Did they come up and bust the lure and make a big commotion or did they just kinda suck it under?Every bass over about 5# that I've caught on topwater has just sucked it down with hardly any splash.

Just go fishin'... STUPID!
I have some of my very best tournaments at lakes I know little about and dont practice on at all.I just go out and fish.....its a whole lot simpler that way.Having too much information in your pocket can screw you up if your main pattern fails. Being on your home lake when that happens just adds more pressure to the situation.

Our C.A.S.T. event countdown
So where are the kids fishing? Will it be easy for them to hookup? The biggest drawback with young kids and fishing is keeping them interested......they get bored real easy as you may know.We have a kids trout rally here in town and when the fish stop biting, the kids get unruly. ;D

Fall Discount
It lists for $12,295 with a 50 4 stroke. I don't know if 2 strokes run a little higher in price than 4's or not. The 2 strokes should be cheaper.....

Boat problem.....
First things first.....I have a 1992 E200STLENS which has an electronic fuel pump just outside the gas tank.It is controlled by a toggle switch. Before starting,I flip the switch, pump starts running, turn the key, motor is running.Never a problem starting. Today I noticed that when I flipped the fuel pump toggle,I didnt hear the fuel pump turn on like usual.Thought that was weird but went on anyway.Boat started fine, idled fine, when I gassed it to get on plane,it seemed as nothing was wrong. After I got on plane and trimmed up to approx 4,000 rpm the motor sounded like it choked and just cut off.Swamped the back end of my boat with backwash,it just flat cut off. Is it safe to assume its a fuel pump gone bad?If so,why did it not cut out when I hammered the gas to get on plane? Why did it take so long to cut out?Seems it just wouldnt start at all if the fuel pump,in fact, wasnt pulling fuel.....correct? Its got me puzzled....anybody got ideas?

Fishing docks
If the fish are hitting topwaters,I like to half-step a Spook until it gets a foot or more under the dock. Then I'll let it sit for a bit, then work it back out.And I always try to walk the Spook so it bumps into every dock post. And each time it bumps the dock,I pause it for 5 seconds. I also use a Zara Puppy sometimes for that but the Puppy is harder to half-step than its big brother.
