It is better to have less higher quality bearings than many low quality ones. A citica d has 3 bearings i think, but is still a great reel.

I think hes just threading the worm that far, thats what i do. I think that helps with hookups as well because the hook is farther back in the bait.

Did you set the cast control knob? Brakes? what weight lure are you throwing? i would suggest a 1/2 or 3/4 ounce bait to start off with. Hopefully Reel Mech will post a link to his website for the Baitcaster 101 article, its a great place to start.

I use a AVC70MM Avid Crankbait Rod, Medium power, moderate action. I use it for all my cranking, which is mostly just shallow cranks and lipless cranks. I usually use a shimano convergence 6' 6" medium fast for topwaters since you dont need anything sensitive. What type of cranking do you plan on doing? IMO a MH is better for deep cranks.
