  1. I don't use swimbaits, yet , but from what i've heard the okuma swimbait rod is a good deal and I've also heard great things about the Shimano Cardiff as well. You may want to try a Cardiff 400 or 401, that would handle every type of swimbait and not limit you to the smaller ones.
  2. I think a Penn would be good for what your planning on doing, I have a smaller size SSg on an Ugly Stick Lite (my 1st rod) and it gets the job done.
  3. It's an aquatic version of an alley cat. exactly ;D ;D
  4. Yup, my local Dicks was out of 4/0 Gamakatsus so i picked up a pack of VMC. No complaints, but they essentially a 5/0 Gammy.

i think i'll pick up one or two of each model when they come out. I have had great luck with Rapala lures.
  6. My dad and i have a few Penn SSG reels we use for saltwater fishing. they are very reliable and durable. I haven't used the Sargus, but i would expect the same type of quality.
  7. I have a techna av, very sensitive. Im sure the Elite Tech is just as sensitive if not more sensitive.
  8. Do you know how to set the drag? I'm not sure how to set the drag on spincaster reels, but that seems to be the problem.
  9. You're late There is a thread already going in Everything Else about this
  10. Yup, 4600 is the best size for the applications you plan on using it for. If you could get a 4600 instead of the 6600 on that rod, i think that would be a good start, but i would still recommend a spinning setup for lighter lures.
  11. A jig rod should have a fast tip, a good backbone, and be very sensitive to detect bites I use a MH Cabelas XMLTi Worm and Jig Rod
  12. I'm gonna have to start saving
  13. Even if you want to use the reel for catfish, you really don't need a 6600 size Abu. A reel that big would be very tiring to cast all day as well. If money is not a problem, you could get the Medium Shimano combo for bass and put 8 lb line on it and get a Heavy baitcasting combo to use for catfish and when fishing heavy cover for bass. What are you willing to spend??
  14. What kind of rod is it? A 6600 size reel is IMO too big for bass Long story short, I would say no, you can do better. Check your local Dick's Sporting Goods, they should have a sale on a Shimano Sedona 2500/ Convergence 6' 6" Medium combo for $45. That is a good, cheap, quality setup that can be used for almost anything. Right now, i would say that is the best setup for <$50. If you are just beginning to fish, a spinning reel (sedona) is much easier to use than a baitcasting reel (Abu 6600). The Shimano combo is IMHO the way to go.
  15. :-? They screwed up bigtime

me and my dad are packers fans and have gone to 3 or 4 games. We usually got there about 2 or 2 1/2 hours before the game. The Jets fans trash talked a little, but in a fun way. With the construction parking might be a hassle, but I can't be sure. I'm sure you'll have a great time no matter what.
  18. Check your Dick's to see if they have a Shimano Sedona/ Shimano Convergence Combo. It should be on sale for $45. If they have it, get the Sedona 2500 on a 6'6" Medium power Convergence rod. Retail value is $90, $50 for the reel, $40 for the rod. It's a great deal.
  19. I have a tour edition pt that i got for $130 about 2 months ago, once i got the brakes set correctly it has been great.
  20. Are they the same price? You can get the president new for $110 i think at Cabelas and TW, used to be $140. The trion i havent seen on sale anywhere, and thats $100
  21. Did you set the spool tension knob correctly? Brakes? Try lightly tapping the spool with your thumb during the cast.
