Great fishing spot gone forever...
You're still young, people are going to treat you differently. I didn't say it's fair, it is what it is. If after asking permission politely and you are declined, thank them for their time and walk away. That will make a positive impression on them. You left the door open for them to change their minds. A word on sneaking into a private development to fish. Years ago my buddy's brother in law got nailed for it. Homeowners assn. pressed trespassing charges and the judge made 'em stick. $300 fishing trip. It could as well have been us, as my buddy and I did it many times. That ended our midnight fishing trips. I'm not gonna lecture you, just be aware of what can happen.

If they really are not stocking trout In Some Cali lakes anymore
Sorry bizz, you aint the only state to have them commie vegan wackos. They're everywhere. I've read all the related threads and posts, I must have missed something: exactly why are they discontinuing the stocking program? Budget reasons?

Great fishing spot gone forever...
It was actually owned by a concrete plant. It was never really "open" to fishing but they never bothered you if thats all you did. Sometimes they would ask you how you were doing. There were some isolated incidents over the years including one or two drownings. This place was very deep with very steep vertical drop offs. Great for fishing, not so great for swimming. People would swim for a while then discover it was difficult to get out after they got tired. They kind of clamped down on the place after that, but left the fishermen alone. We'll see how it goes after the development is complete, but it'll never be the same. I can only imagine what will happen to the water after a few years of fertilizer runoff from all of those manicured lawns

Great fishing spot gone forever...
Had a deep sandwash close to home that a developer bought out and is putting up homes around it. This place was awesome, could always count on some 5 to 6#ers with an occasional 7#er if you played your cards right. I'm bummed out big time about it. Anyone else have something like this happen ?

Hanging Christmas lights.
It sucks. Just came in from the cold rain (thank God for good raingear) I have two small kids, I kinda have to do it. I'd rather hang a few wreaths and put some electric candles in the windows, but what'ya gonna do ? I got Clark Griswold living a block away. This guy is off the hook. Does his entire BACKYARD in addition to the front. It does look good though, I gotta give him credit. My wife doesn't want to hear me b$&* about hanging lights in the rain 'cause I don't have a problem fishing in it!

help decide on a light spinning rod/reel combo for bream, small trout
Ghoti nailed it. Tough to beat that rod for the money. I have the 6' ul along with a Pflueger Trion 4725gx, it's a killer rig.

Cleaning rod/reel...
At the very least what you are doing is fine. NEVER spray a full jet of water on the reel, only use water running out of the end of the hose. Otherwise you can force water to the inside of the reel where it can cause damage. You could spray it down with WD-40 when you're finished. The "WD" in WD-40 stands for water dispersing, which means it will form a barrier between the water molecules and the reel surfaces. You still need to have the reel cleaned and lubed occasionally, especially if it's been used in saltwater.

I'm no Sherlock Holmes, but I'd say Long Mike doesn't like fat women.

What annoys you?
Nothing to do with fishing but annoying just the same - retailers who start jamming Christmas down your throat before Halloween. Seems to start a tiny bit earlier every year. Same thing goes for radio stations, and some of the people in my neighborhood. Ho Ho Ho.

Lions or No?
we'll see about that

What annoys you?
Littering. Hate them styrofoam worm containers left behind by the toothless inbred morons. You know the same ones who leave the packaging from their Shakespere combo on the ground NEXT to the trash can. You know the ones who watch as their filthy little kids throw crap in the water while screaming at the top of their lungs, ruining the fishing for everyone. You know who I'm talking about.

Dick's Sporting Goods....
is ok in my book. I purchased an Avid rod and a Pflueger reel 3 weeks ago, cost me a little over $250. This week I get a mailer from Dick's with a card for $25 off a purchase of $150 or more. So tonight I take my receipt and the card to see if they could do anything for me. The manager told me it can't be used for prior purchases (it was on the back of the card, my mistake for not reading the fine print) He asked my wife and I if we were shopping for anything else, we said yes. He saw us in the checkout line and came over and punched in a 15% discount on our total, which was mostly stuff that was on sale to begin with. I know retailers are in for a bad season, but I thought that was pretty cool on their part.

Probably don't need a license for trouser trout.

Enough is enough is enough....
This crap's been going on forever. My wife remembers fistfights in the early eighties over Cabbage Patch dolls. Peace on Earth, Goodwill to mankind and get the &%#@ out of my way.

Hook getting stuck in the throat?
Okay, Quinn got his post in seconds before me. Glen's is probably the better method. I wasn't aware of that technique. See, old dogs can learn new tricks

Hook getting stuck in the throat?
If you don't have a hook remover or pliers (start carrying them NOW!) the best thing to do in that situation is to cut the line as close as possible to the hook and release the fish immediatly. It's not a guarentee the fish will survive, but it's the best thing to do. For throat hooked fish, LONG handeled wire cutters are the best thing. Cut the hook as close to the area it goes into. In other words, get as much of the hook as possible. Be quick, you're not performing surgery. Fish are capable of passing pieces of hook through their system. It will have a much better chance of survival.

Other than black bass, what do like to fish for the most?
Crappie and gills on ultra lite. Nothing fights like a 1lb+ gill. They're just insane. If they could breed 5lb gills that would be awesome. Saltwater - bluefish just for the fight, especially the little "snapper" blues on light saltwater spinning gear.

Lions or No?
That IS a joke. They should be thankful to have ANY fans at all - bags or no bags. My wife likes the Lions, has since the Barry Sanders era. It's fun to jab at her, she's cool with it. She has her revenge when my Vikings get smoked.

Jig info...
Ok I was refering to the silicone/rubber skirt type. I'm trying to improve my cold weather catch. Here's the thing, I'm primarily a nightime guy. I rely more on feel than line watching. I want to learn these types of jigs as they seem to work for quite a few guys on this site. Once I get my new Avid this Christmas, I plan to fish these jigs heavy until I "get it". I've read the other threads in this section about the trailers and such. I figure I'm just going to put my time in until I get results. One last question - most of the water I fish has vegetation on the bottom as opposed to sand or gravel. How do you minimize getting fouled up ? Or is it a matter of just dealing with it ?

Jig info...
The jigs I've been using for years are the round ball type with any number of soft plastic baits on them. They work well for me, I have no trouble at all. My question is about the other type, I think some refer to it as a "hair" jig. Obviously (to me anyway) this jig is supposed to be fished VERY slowly on the bottom - correct ? Also, are you supposed to set the hook at the first slight "tic" or do you let them run with it ? Straighten me out. Any and all advice is welcome.

Guns and Roses new album.
I truly feel sorry for you younger guys. There is no good rock music these days for you to listen to. Thats ok, you can listen to ours.

Lions or No?
Dontcha' love it when football players beat their chests and pump their fists in the air even when their team is down 28 points ? :-?
