  1. There's guys here that use braid for cranks and mono for frogs in heavy slop - and they catch fish in spite of everyone else telling them "you can't do that". There is no answer to your question, only opinions. Many of the older guys (myself included) fished mono for everything for years. I like braid on my spinning gear because of zero memory. I can feel subtle taps on mono.
  2. It looks to be a Knudson Hadderly model 145 Multi Purpose Farm Implement from the late 30's. I just saw one appraised on Antiques Roadshow for $25,000. ;D It's scrap metal...
  3. Just out of curiosity. Does your state require you to register yours ? If so, what's the fee ? Here in Jersey, anything 12' and over must be registered. Kayaks are exempt, even those over 12' Knowing this state, that could change as smaller craft become more popular. I'm surprised they haven't done in by now.
  4. Cabela's has it OR you could pm .RM. (used to be 'Reel Mechanic) I got mine from him a couple of years ago. I don't know if he still sells supplies or not.
  5. What, I can't do the "Ugly Stik" test with your rods ? :
  6. If you want it for the rain, you'll need to treat it with something like this : http://www.nwbackpack.com/products/kiwi_waterproof_sprays.php You can find it in shoe stores or Dick's. It will allow the fabric to breathe so you don't get poached in the sun. When you first apply it the smell will knock you over. Leave it outside or hanging in the garage for 24 hours and the smell will completely disappear.

We can't forget this classic designed by none other than Homer Simpson himself.... http://onscreencars.com/wp-content/uploads/2010/01/the-homer.jpg Or for the more practical minded : http://hooniverse.com/wp-content/uploads/2010/01/Truckster.jpg
  8. Duuuuuuuude.... You're killin' me.... I wonder if it's against the law to thaw an entire lake with a flamethrower ? Good deal. I'm glad you like it. That's a long ferrule section. I can't see the sections separating with that. Thanks for the close up pics, they really show the build quality. P.S. - Get some U-40 on that cork..

  10. We're not 'dissing' Shimano, we're 'dissing' those that think anything BUT a Shimano is inferior. The thread was started by someone noting something positive that Abu did for a friend of his, but somehow deteriorated into yet another lame *** brand war.
  11. A penguin is driving through the desert when his car breaks down. After being towed to the garage, he walks down the street to get an ice cream cone. When he gets back to the garage, the mechanic says "Looks like you blew a seal" The penguin wipes his beak and says "Nah, it's ice cream"

Aint none badder than this.... 8-) http://www.amcarguide.com/custom/cadzzilla/ Take note of the license plate "I8TOKYO"
  13. No. Trout fishing in my part of the state is a joke. Any trout here are stocked. Opening day on most lakes here is quite a sight. Shoulder to shoulder on every available inch of shoreline and boats filling the lake. The horn blasts and 500 bobbers hit the water at once ;D When it's over there's fishing related litter everywhere. I think I've bought two trout stamps my whole life. About slinging that tiny Mepps a mile, that's one of the reasons I wanted at least a 6'6" ul rod. Not many rodmakers besides St. Croix and Loomis make them longer than 5' 6"
  14. Just curious. I myself use them, but it wouldn't be a deal breaker. I would just buy one. I know they say "Free spare spool", but we all know it's built into the cost of the reel. I keep spares with me in case of a line mishap. I'd hate to lose use of a rod while the bite was hot. Fishing from a kayak prohibits carrying too many rigs as it is.
  15. Why limit youself to 'gills ? They're awesome in their own right, but bigger fish on light tackle can be a blast. Especially when the bite is off but they'll still take smaller baits.
  16. It will have this on it in the 25 size, which is roughly the 500 size most are familiar with: http://www.riversideoutdoors.ca/catalog/images/SupremeXT.jpg Right now it's spooled with Sufix Performance braid in 10/4 (10 lb test, 4 lb dia.) I may go with the new Sufix 832 because of the slightly better sinking capability. I run about a 6' leader of 4lb. mono. I may have the spare spool all mono if the fishing situation dictates it. Mono can be a real bear on small reels though. Lots of KVD Line treatment....
  17. http://www.fenwickfishing.com/cat.php?k=10321 I ordered the 6' 8" ultra light. It's a new line of rods by them, and my first Fenwick. I'm gonna break the state record (10.14) with it, just you wait.... ;D They market it as a trout rod. We'll see about that.
  18. Maintenance ports are completely useless. Leave it sealed. An annual clean and lube is all you need. It's like putting fresh oil in your car engine without draining the old dirty oil out first.
  19. What did one cannibal say to the other while they were eating a clown? Does this taste funny to you?
  20. Good grief, that looks like one of those bass mailboxes (that my wife won't even consider ;D)
