One of my job perks
..working as a diesel engine tech. I get to go out for acceptance trials in these: http://video.yahoo.com/watch/2333054/7316833 Built by Marinette Marine in Marinette, WI. 45' aluminum hull Twin 825 hp Detroit Diesel Series 60 engines Waterjet drives Rolls Royce control system. All throttle operations and steering are done via joystick Air conditioned. Heated. Microwave. Has the ability to right itself when completely upside down. Capable of 43 knots (49 +mph) I'm involved with the sea trials prior to delivery to the Coast Guard, so there's no .50 cal. machine gun mounted yet > I never get to have any fun. I've been on two so far. The sea trials took place in the Hudson River. Pretty cool cruising past Ellis Island and the Statue of Liberty. Seeing the gap where the Twin Towers were was a bummer though.

Spinnerbait fans
Good idea about letting it swing free. Thanks.

What's your thoughts on trailer hooks. I have rigged all of my spinnerbaits with trailer hooks. Do they affect action ? I could see maybe they may track funny if the trailer hook goes askew, I don't know. Mine are secured with clear tubing.

Excalibur cranks
I hear ya. I'm not big on color myself beyond lighter shades in clear water and darker shades in stained water. For $3 I can buy up a bunch. I've already modified a few, mostly silencing the rattles. One of my techniques to work on improving this season is cranks and this is a cheap way to do it.

where u bassers at?
Southern New Jersey. Dead mob associates, Quarter Pounder W/ Cheese wrappers (especially if they have that orange cheese stuck to 'em ) Just kidding. Bluegills, perch, minnows, some crawfish but not everywhere. A lot of shallow water here. Plastics and jigs produce here.

Excalibur cranks
Are they one and the same as Bomber ? One of the Dick's in my area has a bunch red tagged @ $2.97 ea. Mostly the Fat Free Guppy model. I've been grabbing a few a week. Are they a decent bait ? They seem to be pretty well made, could use a hook upgrade though. Any thoughts ?

Sorry Dean Rojas
Do they sell one that busts through ice upon landing ?

site sluggish?
Nothing is safe from this cold weather.

Mono Only
I went to braid with a mono leader for certain applications (jigs and some plastics) but mono will always have a spot with me. I was a diehard Trilene guy forever but have switched to Sufix for both my braid and my mono.

Reel Mechanic - How do you clean Antireverse Bearings?
Simple Green is fine. Whatever you use make sure no residue is left behind. As for lube, I use oil only. Grease can make them inoperable in colder temps. If by chance a roller gets out of the cage, a coating of oil applied to it will make it tacky enough to get it back in the cage and stay there.

MARK McGUIRE
1) There's been cheating in baseball since there was baseball. 2) McGuire is one of many tools in the shed. I have ZERO respect for his kind, of which there are many, who hide behind publicists, agents, attorneys, etc. when they get caught. Just once I'd like to see someone look the camera straight in the eye and say "Yeah, I ****ed up. It is what it is". But nooooo, time after time we get scripted, contrived reactions, complete with crocodile tears. Yea, ok, I'm believing that .

left handed rods
You'll need a left hand metric adjustable reel seat wrench to install the reel properly. I can get you one cheap........shhhhhhh 8-)

Traveling rod tubes/cases
Call your Depot to see if it is available. I saw on the news it's in short supply down south due to the frigid weather causing lots of burst pipes.

What do you use when fishing HIGHLY PRESSURED city lakes?
This is exactly what I do, but I'd also recommend using lures that are a bit out of the ordinary, or more difficult to find. If it's available at Walmart, I'm much less likely to throw it on highly pressured public waters. Right on. I made a post a while back about using tail sections of torn up stick baits rigged onto ball jigs. It works VERY well for me. I do the same with jig trailers after the claws have been bitten off. I catch fish consistently using the 'carcasses' of plastic baits rigged this way. Charlie Brewer Slider Worms work on the same principal. Sometimes no action gets you action. The resident tackle snobs here basically laughed it off as if it was impossible to catch fish this way. When a fish pokes it's head out of the water and asks me what I paid for a bait, I'll change my ways.

Traveling rod tubes/cases
Home Depot sells foam pipe insulation that is slit the entire length. It's great for wrapping around your rods prior to putting them in the tube. It comes in different diameters and costs very little.

Sick of Freezing Weather
You southern boys didn't think all those "It's 65 and sunny here" comments would come back to get ya after we complained about the cold in the past ? ;D The end is near, most of the country is due for more 'normal weather' the last half of January. So says Glenn "Hurricane" Shwartz, our local NBC weather guru :

I just noticed
that the flea market is only visible when you are logged in. In other words, non registered people cannot see it. Was it always this way or are my 'senior moments' starting to happen ? (at 45 )

Caring for BPS Pro Qualifier reels
I agree about some schematics being more thorough than others. I have access to an office copier which allows me to make blown up copies of my schematics. 150% to 160% is a decent size to work from. Some schematics are ridiculously small. If you can't get to a copier then Kinkos can do it. I also draw little diagrams as I'm breaking down an unfamiliar reel. Take note of EVERY detail, no matter how minor it may seem. Use an ice cube tray or other similar container for parts. Assign a number to each compartment and keep notes such as "side cover screws #1, spool bearings #2...."

Anyone use Turbo Tax?
I have been using it for years. Unless you have a complex financial situation such as investment properties, inheritance, trust fund, etc., it's fine. It takes you step by step through each and every page. If something is not right it tells you about it. It does all of the math for you. You can go back and make changes (prior to sending it off electronically !) It's got a value calculator that determines the value of anything you donated such as clothes, household goods, etc. It will take you through a bunch of deduction scenarios to see if they apply to you or not. The cost of it is tax deductible also. One other thing. If you are entitled to a refund, don't take the direct deposit option. It costs extra. Opt for the check. The guy that did our taxes for years HATED large refunds. He said they equalled to interest free loans for the government. He always said the perfect tax return would be a "0". You owed them nothing and they owed you nothing
