  1. As a marine mechanic, I'll answer your question. First and best way is word of mouth. Talk with boat owners in your area. If the same names come up, either good or bad, pay attention. Cheap does not necessarily = good. Good does not necessarily = cheap. From a mechanic's perspective, here's some advice. Don't play that "I know a guy who will do it cheaper" game in order to try to get a lower price. If that's the case, hire him. Don't waste my time. Beware of mechanics who do nothing but badmouth their competition. It's unprofessional and likely is reflected in their work. Keep in mind that quotes and estimates CAN and often DO change. This is NOT some secret mechanic trick to steal your money. Often times, upon disassembly, other issues appear that were not visible before. It is absolutely your right to be "kept in the loop" It's the law that, at your request, the old parts be returned to you at the completion of the job. Other things can can change the quote is time spent on stubborn fasteners, broken bolts, etc. Unless discussed and agreed upon prior to the job, don't ask if you can supply the parts. It's not so much the money thing, things can get sticky if the part fails. If a part fails that YOU bought but I installed, who is going to reimburse me for my time diagnosing and replacing the part ? If a mechanic won't put anything in writing or talks to you like you are an idiot, walk away BEFORE YOU LEAVE YOUR BOAT OR ENGINE. Trust your instinct, if you have any doubts, get a second opinion. Again, this is where word of mouth comes in. Good mechanics are always busy and it's boat season now. Don't be mad if they say it may be a while. A lot of problems people encounter could have been avoided with a little maintenance. Read up on boats and engines, learn all you can. Ask questions, there are no stupid ones. I'd rather deal with a boat owner that has an idea about things than someone who is clueless. It's easier on me and less intimidating for you.
  2. Real men keep their problems bottled up inside until they boil over....

  5. Classics !!! The one where Barbara Streisand as a Godzilla like monster is up there also
  6. If you are after numbers, almost anything will work. Worms, corn, little pieces of bread packed tightly around a small hook, most any kind of bug. You get the idea. If you want the bigger ones, use ultra light with no more than 4# test mono. Small inline spinners (gold is my choice) are good, as are 1/16 oz. ballhead jigs with small (1.5 - 2") plastics. These can be retrieved or worked under a bobber. The bigger ones have an attitude, a good fight for sure.

  8. Happened in Philadelphia. The scumbag was walking the neighborhood in plain view when locals recognized him. Check out the video, it was caught on a surveillance camera. The footage is a little grainy. http://abclocal.go.com/wpvi/story?section=news/take_action&id=6843891
  9. Nah, we're just the burial grounds for everyone else's criminals
  10. Got ya With some of these threads lately, just wanted to see who would actually open this one up to look. I probably would have myself...... :
  11. "Aw, come on honey. All of the other guys get to have theirs tonight, how 'bout it, huh ? Whats that, go _ _ck yourself ? Hey fellas, next time you see me out front doing yard work or something - shoot me" The late great Sam Kinison
  12. Nah, I think more people hate my Flyers. Goes all of the way back to the Broad Street Bully days of the Seventies. Growing up I was a Flyers fan. Bernie Parent was a goalie god, Bobby Clarke was my absolute favorite player and Dave Schultz handed out beatdowns on a regular basis. The good ol days. 8-) Yeah man, those were the days........ Somewhere in my stuff is a brochure from a limousine company Schultz owned in the early Eighties. The picture on the front was him standing on the ice with both fists clenched standing over someone who was out cold on the ice (looks like a New York Ranger). Anyhow, the caption read "Dave Shultz spent years showing people how to relax. Let him do the same for you in one of his luxury limos" ;D
  13. I'm suprised to see so many Southern cities on the list.

  15. The city of Camden, NJ used to make that list often. It's right across the Delaware River from Philadelphia. I work in both cities occasionally. I don't worry too much, I guess knowing what areas to avoid and a little common sense go a long way. One thing I think these statistics tend to ignore is the fact that a large percentage of the crimes are criminal on criminal; drug dealers and gangs shooting each other over money, territory, whatever. RW is on the money about the corruption. Camden has been under state control for years now because of the rampant corruption of the past few decades. The New Jersey State Police have a full time task force there as well, because the local cops either cannot or will not (depends who you ask) handle it on their own. For decades the state (taxpayers) pumped millions upon millions dollars into Camden, and not a thing to show for it.
  16. When buying swivels, make sure you get ball bearing swivels as opposed to regular barrel type. Definitely worth it.

  18. AND he throws a baitcaster...... he's got me there! God bless him, he's got an awesome attitude. I admire that the word 'pity' isn't in his vocabulary.
  19. There's always the chance that he could end up with a bait that has a crazy unique action that the fish would go nuts for.
  20. Nah. I like to talk loudly on my cellphone and get up and walk in front of people 4 - 5 times during the show. That's why I hate going to the movies. When it comes out on DVD, I'll watch it in the comfort of my home.
  21. Jeez guys, lighten up, the poor kid has more guts than most people (I said guts, not sense). I'm glad You Tube wasn't around when I was that age to document the many stupid things I did. I still do stupid things occasionally, I just make sure no one's watching :

Hmmmmmmmmmm.... a backpack mounted bilgepump could be just the ticket
  23. NBC won't be showing the games because they don't want to interrupt their prime time schedule - another reality show :-? They will be shown on Versus. Man, I thought Chicago had it the other night. They played their arses off, it would have been nice to see them take Detroit out. That said, being a Flyers fan, I'm rootin' for the Red Wings, as I can't stand Pittsburgh. Should be a tight series, I see it going seven games.

Baby seal fur and melted polar ice cap water. I use aerosol cans to spray the seals in the eyes. This accomplishes two things - spraying them in the eyes stuns them so I can club them. The use of aerosol cans hastens the melting of the icecap, thus insuring a steady supply of the water. Take that PETA.
