Carp?
I used to fish for carp as a kid. I remember my dad showing me to completely bury the hook in the doughball or whatever bait your using. Something about them being sensitive to the metal hook, they will spit it out at the first taste of it. And, like jvox said, when you hook one, it's on !!!!

Couple of questions on a Spinning Reel
Good point. Here in New Jersey, there's always a Dick's coupon in the state Fish and Wildlife guide. The guides here are free and available where fishing licenses are sold.

NJ Fishing
Friday night was good - 5 bass, 2 crappie. Biggest bass about 3 lb. Saturday night was terrible > Windy, lost 3 lures. 1 dink in 5 hours. I should have stayed home, but my daughter had a sleepover. House full of 12 year old girls. Hmmmm.... maybe I was better off out anyway

Couple of questions on a Spinning Reel
If the weight is not a big deal for you, see if they have the Pflueger President. I don't own one myself, but a lot of guys here do and they are happy with them. 30 size Supreme =7.4 oz 30 size President =9.1 oz Both are 10 bearing reels.

Vertigo
Have your ears checked for earwax. Seriously. My brother had dizzy spells, disorientation, etc. The doctor removed a large quantity of wax from his ear canals (Raul touched on this) and it pretty much straightened him out. Everyone gets it to some degree, it's not from poor hygiene. Your equilibrium is affected by this. Hope it's something simple, best of luck.

Winding setting on spinning reel
Not to pick on Shimano, but does anyone know why you would want line to stack up on one end or the other ? My buddy has one that is giving him fits, now I see whats going on.

Spinning Set ups
I use spinning for everything. I should add I rarely throw anything above 1/4 oz. I'm a light tackle junkie.

Couple of questions on a Spinning Reel
I own two Pfluegers - the Trion and the Supreme. Love 'em both. Some guys find the 35 size too big for their liking. I have the 30 size which suits me fine. It's on a 6' 6" Avid AVS66MF rod. It's gonna come down to how it fits the particular rod you put it on and your line capacity needs. The only Quantum I own is called the Inferno, a made for Dick's model from about 3 or 4 years ago. It's a decent reel mechanically, a turd cosmetically. The finish is horrible. I had heard this complaint about Quantums from others on this board. Maybe Quantum has taken care of this by now ? BTW, The Supreme with it's magnesium frame is sweet, especially at that price. Light as a feather.

Uglystik
Too many other decent rods in that price range. You can do better.

Need Your Help, Guys - Need to Create and Teach a Fishing Class
For some seniors, tying a knot in mono with arthritic fingers could be frustrating. I'd suggest Duo lock snaps or snap swivels. That should free up more time to fish. Perhaps casting practice at a large open space like a park or ballfield ? Hats off to you for taking this on by yourself. I have quite a bit of terminal tackle (hooks, bobbers, etc.) your welcome to. PM me if interested.

working on the weekend. Yeah!!!
Let the five day forecast decide your day off. Pick the cloudy/ drizzle day if you can.

Spinning reels
Consider the Pflueger Trion, President or Supreme. I own the Trion and the Supreme, both outstanding reels. Do a Google search for reviews, there's a lot of them out there, almost all positive.

How open minded are you ???
I guess my being 'open minded' was when I started fishing ultra light last year. I had spent the winter of '07 reading up on it and I got the bug. I've increased my overall numbers dramatically, without really sacrificing size. I've gotten quite a few 3 -4 lb fish. What it really did was open me up to more species of fish that I never saw much of when I fished heavier gear. I still fish heavy gear when the situation calls for it, but light is my preference now. The quality of ul gear these days is awesome, it makes all the difference. This year I'm trying jigs, cranks and small paddletail swimbaits. I always mainly relied on soft plastics (worms) in the past because they were good for me, but I feel like I relied on them too much. My goal is to learn a new technique every season. BTW Chris, what's your biggest fish caught on ul ? what # line ?

Bassmaster really dropped the ball on this one...

Shimano bullwhip?(Help!)
Bullwhips were from the eighties. The best way to describe them is that they look like a pool cue - one continuous taper from the handle to the tip. I still have a spinning one, it's been retired for quite a long time now. They only came in black as far as I can remember. It's a conversation starter for sure.

Solo or group fishing -- your preference
On the money. I go for 6 - 7 hours sometimes. Nothing worse than after 2 hours hearing "Wanna wrap it up ?"

I have to Vent.
Doctors are notoriously tight.

What if............
The "fishing brush piles" thread and all of the replies got me thinking..... What if there were a tournament where there were NO electronics of any kind allowed. No fish finders, GPS, anything. Maybe lake maps and a compass, that's it. Just anglers, their gear and a boat. Not that it would ever happen, but I think it would be interesting to see how the pro's would react. Who do you think would excel ? Who would fall on their face ? Would you even watch ? I think it would be pretty cool myself.

spinning reel - what pound line?
Keep it simple and inexpensive. Good 'ol Trilene XL in the red box. 6 to 8 lb should be fine. Anything beyond 8 lb could be trouble for the inexperienced. Trilene is an aewsome line. Sufix aint too bad either.

Wacky Rig Thoughts
Believe it or not, I pulled a 2.5 lb LMB a few weeks back with a wacky rigged 2" Senko on a # 6 Owner Mosquito hook. Was playing around for crappie and got him.
