question for avs66mf owners
I have the exact same rod, got it Christmas. I have not fished it extensively yet, but yes, it does have a fairly stiff tip. The few times I did have it out,I was throwing Strike King Bitsy jigs with no problems. Lure weight ratings are 3/16 to 5/8 oz. Sorry I can't give you more details

Automated bathroom fixtures
I guess I'm a Neanderthal then. Sometimes on a job facilities are not available or if they are they can be brutal. Thank goodness for a work truck with a large windowless utility body. Always carry paper, and always have a five gallon bucket. It's probably a million times more sanitary than ANY public john.

Pflueger and BPS Micro-lite supreme
The extra bearing in the BPS may be in the handle, as it looks by the picture. The Trion has the rosewood handle. I'd say it's a Trion for sure without the wood handle. My UL setup is a Trion 4725gx on a BPS Micro Lite 6' ul rated rod. I've fished the snot out of it for over a year with no troubles whatsoever.

Spinning outfit vs baitcast outfit for smallies
Chris - you aint alone. I started fishing ul last year and I was amazed at the fish I caught. I have a bc that I haven't touched in years. I think too many guys dismiss lite tackle, they don't know what they're missing. Check my post from the other night. This was done with a Pflueger 4725gx on a BPS 6' Micro Lite rod and 4# Trilene XL: http://www.bassresource.com/bass_fishing_forums/YaBB.pl?num=1237128391

Time to go back to old school......
Give light tackle a shot. I started last year and it's a blast. Here's one of a few articles on this site about it, it's a good one: http://www.bassresource.com/fishing/light_line.html

Decreasing Interest in the Outdoors
Pretty astute for a Shimano guy That, sadly, pretty much sums it up. It's the pussificaction of America. At least you guys in the South have a hunting and fishing culture. Fight like hell to keep it. I'll bet my two daughters (10 & 12) have more fish to their credit than every boy in the neighborhood combined.

1st outing
It's good to get back on the fish, aint it ?! It seems they are active out here a little on the early side also this year. I've been throwing my ultra lite for a few weeks now with decent success. Small jigs with 2" tubes and wacky rigged 3" Yum dingers have been the ticket for me. I always wondered about those Storm baits. They look decent in the package but they get trashed on the forums alot. Glad to hear they work for you. On a side note - I haven't had much of a fight at all from any bass I've caught so far. Very subtle bites, feels like dragging in a shoe. Maybe they're still foggy ? You notice the same ?

Worms in my coffee!
I would use used coffee grounds. They smell pretty strong and you wouldn't waste any coffee.

Protecting crankbait finish.......
I'm new to crankbaits. Just picked up a couple of Mann's - 1's shallow runners. I read a few reviews online, which were all favorable. The only knock they got was the finish is not durable, as in the paint would chip or flake in a short period of time. One guy claimed his lost an eye. Should I apply some sort of clear protective finish before using them or just let 'em rip ? I've read several articles that stated "beat up" looking baits can be more productive than shiny new ones. Any suggestions ?

lookin for good fishin spots in south NJ
From Audubon, take the White Horse Pike (Rte. 30) west towards Camden. Make a right on Cuthbert Road, heading towards Haddon Twp. When you pass Wendy's and McDonalds, make a left onto Lakeshore Drive. That's the beginning of Newton Lake. It snakes around for quite a distance, you'll end up in Collingswood. Bass, crappie, perch, shad, carp, catfish, sunfish, they're all in there. Open water, lily pads, structure, bridges, it has it all. A majority of it can be bank fished, a boat will get you back into some sweet spots though. The only thing I can't recall catching in there is pickeral, although I'm sure they're in there somewhere. Try to avoid the weekends in the spring and summer. Local clubs use it for tournaments and the fishing pressure is high. Plenty of parking the whole length.

Is this THE one ?........
So there I am on the lake last night. It's about 9pm. Cloudy, on and off drizzle and a little breezy. I had been doing ok throwing small jigs. Got a couple of small bass and 1 crappie. Something big has jumped twice across from where I was at, so I head over there to see what's up. I tie on a floating Rapala and start throwing it in the area where the commotion had been. Then I hooked on to it. Immediately it starts to run, the drag screaming. It was huge. I could see the water boil whenever I got him near the surface, but never got a clear look at him. I'm thinking PB for sure. Nothing has ever spooled me like this. I'm shaking by now, and some people who were walking by are now watching. After about five minutes, I get it to where I can reach down to pull it out. It's a @*&^%%## foul hooked brown carp > I had snagged him about 2 inches from the tail. Only one hook of the rear treble was in him. I was so ^%$%*& disappointed ! I did not have a scale with me, but he was at least 8 lbs easily. BUT, I learned some important things: 1) I tie good knots ;D 2) Pflueger makes an awesome drag 3) Trilene XL is good line 4) Rapala uses quality hooks Oh well, it's nice to know that everything works on the equipment side.

Spinning reel not "spooling"??
Are you using braid or mono ? Braid will spin on a spool if you don't put mono on first. Is your drag set properly ? What size reel ? 8# mono can be a little heavy on smaller size reels. What brand of line are you using ? Some lines sacrafice a little managability for strength. For example, Trilene XT (extra tough) handles a bit differently than Trilene XL (extra limp) We need more details.

Led Zeppelin
The Royal Albert Hall show from 1970 makes The Song Remains The Same look like an instructional knitting video. Just them and the instruments onstage. A superior performance from when they were younger and had something to prove.
