  1. My 14" jonboat complete with trolling motor, and battery. Plus the trailer. $600.00 Here's how it went down: My wife knew I was looking for one. She comes home one day and says "I saw one of those boats across the street from my cousin's house" So I go to check it out, it's in great shape. The guy walks out front to talk to me, I'm expecting to hear there's no title or something like that that turns into a hassle later with DMV. Turns out he has titles for boat and trailer. I ask how much, he says $600. I said "sold". He took the sign down while I went to the bank. After he signed the titles over, I asked him why he let it go for so cheap. He started laughing and told me his wife was divorcing him and he was anticipating a nasty battle. He was selling everything out from under her as fast as he could so there would be less for her to take from him. Oh well
  2. Can't go wrong at night in spring, summer or fall.
  3. I've done well with 1/8 - 1/4 oz ballhead jigs with a shad or grub body on them. I actually aim for the piling and hit it, letting it drop into the water. I don't know if the bass picks up on the sound of the jig hitting the piling or what, but it works. Wouldn't suggest this with $$$ baits , but you won't hurt a jighead or a worm doing it.
  4. Was that you stuck in the slide tube at Chuck E Cheese's makin' my kids cry ?
  5. Ok, I know it isn't free, but how big of a deal is it to you ? I won't buy a reel without it. I like carrying a filled extra in case of a mishap with my line, or be able to switch from mono to braid, etc. It's also one of the reasons I won't buy a combo. I see that Shimano is not offering the extra spool on many of their models, presumably to save on costs. This is not meant to be a "Shimano sucks" thread, so relax. Just wondering if it means that much to you.
  6. That was on the money.
  7. Download this and be sure to print it. It will be true to scale only when it is printed : http://www.jannsnetcraft.com/Content/downloads/sizing_chart.pdf

  9. TW is basically just that - a warehouse. They don't have the overhead of multiple retail stores, employees, and all of the other costs that BPS and Cabela's have. It's easier for them to pass on the savings to us, they don't have to pay for in store aquariums and such (though they are neat to look at !) Burley nailed it saying they are working on an old business model. In our area, JC Penney, Macy's, Boscov's and the like have all died off because they couldn't keep up with the times. Who do you think pays for all of that glitz ?
  10. Not directley. One of our better lakes was closed off to all fishing about 17 years ago because some misinformed do-gooders petitioned the owner. It seemed they thought fishermen were a threat to the safety of non-native geese that had made a year round home of the lake. Trying to explain to these people that feeding them disrupted their migratory patterns was useless. They're not Jersey geese, they are Canadian geese. The goose problems (attacking humans, feces everywhere, etc.) got so bad that just about every township in the state now has ordinances prohibiting feeding any wildlife. The geese have moved on. Good riddance.
  11. I'm not Italian, but I've experienced that one. My parents had a huge wooden salad bowl with a big wooden spoon and fork to go with it. My rear end and the spoon got to know each other quite well. So one day I figured if I got rid of the spoon my troubles would be over So there I was sitting on the counter with my feet in the sink trying to get the rest of the spoon dislodged from the garbage disposal that was jammed up : In walk mom and dad - BUSTED!!!!
  12. Wow. I saw the band in June of 1976 at the old JFK Stadium in Philadelphia. They were not the headliner that day, it was Peter Frampton. They tore the place to pieces. Most people started to leave a few songs into Frampton's set. A lot of big name bands back then hated having Lynyrd Skynyrd open for them because they usually blew the headliners off of the stage. They even upstaged the Rolling Stones in England. Probably one of the best live bands I've ever seen. A sad day indeed :'(
  13. BANNED IN ONE STATE ALREADY!!!!!!! http://www.ngcsports.com/
  14. Who had one of these ? http://www.popularmechanics.com/outdoors/adventures/1277791.html?page=1 I remember when they came out they were supposed to be the best thing since sliced bread. I probably would have bought one if I wasn't so broke back then :
  15. Don't believe the hype. Go with the Pflueger. Trust me on this one.
  16. For what ? Removing hooks ? Opening split rings to replace hooks ?
  17. First off, welcome aboard. Second - you gotta be more specific - casting, spinning, what size baits you throwing, etc. Third - this post will likely get moved to the "Rods Reels and Lines" section. Fourth - your choices will be limited at 50 bucks, but you are not completely screwed. Check out the Flea Market section here on the site first. Good deals pop up all of the time.
  18. 'scuse me while I whip this out......
  19. It is what it is Sh** happens That broke easy "Thats why God gave you two ears and only one mouth"
  20. As for the reel seat loosening, I use teflon plumber's tape to "build up" the threads so the "nut" has a little more to grab on to. The nice thing about the teflon tape is you can remove it whenever you want (even after years) and it won't leave residue - it doesn't have any adhesive, it sticks to itself.
  21. I'm gonna start making my own also. Here's a good link: http://www.luremaking.com/catalogue/download/canguide-web.pdf
  22. Of the two major retailers (BPS and Cabela's), Cabela's has way more selection. It runs from kits in a plastic case, four piece rods and telescopic rods. For a reel I'd suggest a Pflueger Trion spinning. About as bulletproof of a $40 reel you will find anywhere. Store the rod in a length of PVC pipe and you're set.
