  1. I also own the Trion, which is a notch below the President (7 bearings vs 10 bearings). The Trion is a fabulous reel, especially for $40. My only beef is the rosewood handle, which is nice looking, but I find it slippery at times as I fish in the rain a lot. I don't think you can go wrong with any Pflueger. The Supreme is the most $$ because of it's magnesium frame. If you can get to a store and handle them, that should make it easier to decide. All of them do well where it counts on a spinning reel, which is drag and line handling. Go on Cabela's or BPS and read the reviews.
  2. I love my Supreme. I have the 8030 size which weighs in at 7.4 oz. If weight is not an issue, you have a choice of the President XT (9 oz, composite handle for the 30 size) or the original President 30 size with a rosewood handle at 9.1 oz. I don't own a President so I can't give any feedback, but they are extremely popular. Also, with the weight differences between the XT's and the originals averaging 2 tenths of an ounce, are the XT's worth the extra $20 ? I don't think the Supreme with it's magnesium frame would be an ideal saltwater choice, unless you did a complete cleaning and lube after each outing.

2" Yum Vibra King tubes on a 1/16 oz. jighead are one of my go to baits. Will catch crappie and bass equally well, have landed many 2.5 to 3 lb bass on them when they are hitting on the smaller stuff.
  4. Yeah, it's always a good idea to have an extra rod when your fishin'....
  5. Lars plays drums ?
  6. I work on everything from 30 year old tugboats to 120' megayachts and everything in between. It's all good. The yacht owners would surprise you. A great majority of them are down to earth decent people. Most of them made their dough the old fashioned way, they worked their butts off. You can tell who made their money by working for it vs who inherited it. The ones who worked for it are usually easier to deal with. The trust fund babies want you to carry their pissbucket. Thank God they are few and far between. Of course I've had my share of *#%%@ to deal with at times, haven't we all ? They end up being the best stories to tell over some beers with your buddies.
  7. I could give two hoots what the public thinks of fishing. In some ways, I'm glad it's not a wildly popular craze. Fishing maintains my sanity. I cherish my time my time on the water away from the modern world. My wife thinks I'm a mountain man anyway LOL, I take it as a compliment. I don't get people who spend entire weekends watching sports on TV, but I don't look down on them for it. Just my observation, I may well be wrong, but those younger guys and their attitudes towards fishing and hunting, that's what they've been taught growing up. Maybe not so much in the South, where there seems to be a strong hunting and fishing culture, but definitely here in the urbanized northeast.
  8. I remember reading an article years ago (late 80's probably) where a guy who won a tournament noted that the stumps and trees he hit most of his fish at were the ones that had snakes on/in them. He said there was no action were there were no snakes that day.
  9. Yeah Man, nice setup for sure . The custom badge tops it nicely. I began my wrenching career on a fleet of Ford heavy trucks. The word "Ford" was done in individual chrome letters across the grill. Whiny or pain in the *** drivers got their letters rearranged to "D O R F"
  10. Now, if we can just get you to go night fishing...... Nice toad. Here's to more where that came from.
  11. Catfish on a rattle trap Trout on a beetle spin (only trout I've ever caught) About a 1.5" fingerling bass on a Mepps inline spinner. What was he thinking ? Huge bullfrog on a topwater plug Countless turtles while using live worms fishing with my daughters
  12. Years ago I worked part time at one of those national chain stores. I saw first hand the crap they pulled on customers - especially women. It's the only job I've ever been fired from, because I wanted no parts of it. I walked out laughing after they canned me. Let me make this clear: Not all of them are crooks and some have fine mechanics working for them BUT watch your behind if you choose to use them. They are expected to sell X amount of repairs per location per week. Don't fall for the "free 18 point safety inspection". Really, the best way to find a decent mechanic is word of mouth. Some of the best wrenches in my area don't even advertise, they don't need to. Ask friends and family where they get their work done and if they're happy. It's as simple as that.
  13. I hear the toast is quite good also. Be prepared to be hated upon for being American.
  14. He's not kidding, guys. As if living in Jersey wasn't a kick in the jimmies as it is, we have this. The only good thing is I doubt I'll run into them while fishing......
  15. x 100 Don't forget the gold blade/ black body Panther Martin spinner also.
  16. Small jigheads (1/16 or 1/8 oz) with small tube baits, Yum Vibra King tubes for example, have been VERY good to me at night this year. Black/blue has been the winning color at night. Retrieve as slow as you can so you don't get hung up. A yo-yo retrieve works also. Wacky rigged worms should get bit also.
  17. It's got the usual crap everyone here has to deal with ; the styrofoam worm containers, trash, illegals taking everything, etc. What it does have going for it though is limited bank fishing spots. This is best fished with a kayak or jonboat. That alone will hopefully keep it a decent spot. Plus the fact that it's not near any main roads. Pretty much only the locals know of it.
  18. That aint a boat. That picture is from the set of a low budget Star Trek flick they're filming.......William Shatner won't sit on it until they upgrade the chair. :
  19. BTW, if your into it, rig up a lite or ultralight with small inline spinners. Newton has shad that somehow worked their way up there. Fun way to kill a couple of hours.
  20. Hey fanatic, you talking about Newton Lake when you mention the dead fish ? That seems to happen there every Spring. I have no idea why, but it's been that way for years. I've caught fish there already this year. Once it warms up a bit, it'll be poppin' there. Did you get my pm about other spots ?
  21. Anybody else take note of the name of the building they were walking in front of ? 'african peoples socialist party' Well, that about sums it up. :-X
  22. YES!!!! My best outings are always on cloudy/ rainy days. Get a cheap Frogtog rainsuit if you don't want to get wet. Don't get a cheap vinyl poncho or jacket, you'll be sweaty and miserable.
  23. God help anyone that tried to kick my gear into the water........
  24. Unless the car is still warranty, there is NO reason to use the dealer, unless there are no independant shops near you that you trust. Finding a reputable mechanic is a whole other thread....... BTW, I'm a mechanic.
  25. Zero. Zip. Nada. It's not a state park, the area is under state jurisdiction. Which basically means as long as you follow all posted rules - the usual about alcohol, motor vehicles, atv's, etc. you can pretty much do as you please.
