I've been walleye fishing more and more in the rivers with 3/4-1oz jig heads with a 4-4.5" trailer. This is working great for me but the problem I'm running into is crappy stinger hooks. What brand stingers do you all use and what size hook do you like? I'm having a lot of issues with the hooks breaking on fish and need something better. I'm really considering building my own with some owner Stingers.

For that cold of weather I'd use a good neoprene wader. Probably something centered around duck hunting. That is what I use. Most of them have a nylon outside that will hold up better to the ice and sticks then just a neoprene outside. They are not cheap.

I agree with all above. Pouring lead in your place is not a good idea.

So True. Most companies say exactly what size and brand they are. Some you may have to ask or do the set trebles next to the bait and compare technique.

Swimming I rig like this. If I am hopping a swim jig on the bottom I rig it horizontal.

Agreed. you can "feel" the speed of the crankbait by the way it is pulling through the water or bouncing off the bottom. Each bait has its sweet spot that it performs best at.

The best way to fish any jig is to learn its strengths and weaknesses. All jigs will have them. All lures will have them. Learning how a specific jig functions in different types of structure will produce more fish and reduce hang ups. There is a lot in design of a jig that helps a design move from one structure to another. But if you do not learn the capabilities of the design it will lead to hang ups or poor results.

I drive it up as far as I can and walk the boat up the trailer. The boat ramp angle plays a huge role in doing this.
