Shimano or St.Croix
I had this same problem last week. I went into BPS held both and fell in love with the Crucial 6'8 M Drop Shot. I used it twice last week with finesse worms and 4" senkos and was able to set the hook on every bass that struck. I liked it so much I sold one of my carrots and went back to BPS and got a drop shot rod for one of my new baitcasters. The Avid has some nice crankbait rods, but I hate crankbait rods and usually just use a stiff worm rod for that. But if you were looking at crankbait rods I'd check the Avid.

Revo
I prefer a high speed reel for plastics and jigs. That's what I use my SXHS for. It allows me to keep better control of the slack line with less effort. The HS reel is too fast IMO for spinnerbaits and cranks but it's great for buzzbaits. So I need both

Revo
Does the SX in your avatar have a silver frame, or is that optical illusion? It's an optical Illusion.

Revo
Get the Revo SX. I had 3 STXs and a Premier and sold the STXs for tackle and replacement SXs. The SX does what the STX does while looking cooler.

pitchin instead of flipping
I've been doing a lot of pitching of jigs and plastics this spring and I'm using 3 different rods for it. I disagree with it having to be a MH action rod. I pitch a lot of lighter plastics and finesse jigs and the MH action is overkill. 1. BPS Pro Qualifier 7' MH - heavier baits 2. BPS Pro Qualifer 7' M - lighter baits 3. Gloomis Mossy Back 6'8 M jig and worm rod - lighter baits and the shorter length makes it better for fishing under a lot of shore line cover.

Baitcaster for under $100.00
Look for a Revo S on ebay. Every time I've gone to the store this year to buy a Citica I always leave with a Revo. The Citicas I've tried all have too much play in the handles for that money.

2008 Shimano Curado 200E7
Yeah right.

casting vs spinning q's
Wait on a decent deal for a Revo S on ebay and put it on a rod like the Shimano Convergence or something else in that price range. You can upgrade your rod later. The better the baitcaster is you start on the frustrations you will have.

Bass Pro Extreme Rod
I just got a Woo Davis 6'6 MH Extreme rod with the Revo SX combo. I've got Loomis rods and a Carrot and I really like the Extreme. I'd probably buy a Pro Qualifier before an Extreme. But it's a good rod.

Revo STX or Premier
The Premier was my first Revo and I just sold it. The main reason I sold it was because I needed the money but I do feel the STX is just as good as the Premier. The Premier was too light for me actually. I've had as many as 8 Revos and I've culled my stock down to 5 right now. If I had to do it all over again I'd probably get mostly SXs. I really disliked that model to begin with but I can cast that model the most accurate.

revo stx vs. sx
Ok I'm going to eat crow over this one. I finally got a SX and S that are as smooth as my STXs. I swear I can fast further with the SX with less effort than with the STX. I might even go as much to say a properly lubed SX is as good as a STX.

Citica vs. Revo SX???
Twice now I've gone to the tackle store to buy a Citica as a cheaper alternative to my STXs and Revo Premier and both times I came home with a Revo SX. Now that first SX had some issues but I'm pretty happy with the 2nd. Overall the SX just felt like a more smooth solid reel. If had to do it again I'd get the Revo S over the SX and Citica.

Cheap reel?
I wouldn't buy any 50 dollar reel especially if it was a baitcaster. The best way to make that 50 bucks stretch is to hit Ebay. I picked up a brand new Revo S for 69 bucks last week on there and if that's possible I'm sure you could find a used one for 50ish.

High Speed Reel?
I've got a High Speed Revo SX and Revo STX. I use them mostly for jigs and soft plastics. A lot of the times I'm not working these baits the full distance of a cast and it helps to be able to reel the bait back in quicker to make another cast. Mostly I like the high speed because I have total control of the slack line when pulling jigs and plastics with the rod. I've used the High Speed reels for everything though and although they aren't my ideal speed for crankbaits they do work, all you gotta do is just slow down your retrieve.

6'6" or 7' crankbait rod for light cranks??
I think you've already got 5 or 6 "perfect" cranking reels.
-
6'6" or 7' crankbait rod for light cranks??
I've always felt it was easier to cast lighter crankbaits further with a 7' rod. My accuracy is about the same with a 6'6 and a 7' rod and being 6'3 the 7' rod feels best in my apelike arms.

The New Revo Toro
Very nice. I'll have to get one of these too.

What baitcaster in the 200.00 range?
Look at the Revo STX and Revo Premier on ebay. I got 3 STXs and a Premier this year on Ebay each for well under 200 bucks. Now that I've finally got a Revo SX that works I'd recommend that model too and those can be found for under 150 on ebay.

revo stx vs. sx
Maybe my 2 bad SXs were too dry as well? My 3 STXs and Premier all came from Abu as smooth as glass and each of those have had significant amounts of time being used on the water. But the SXs were grindy within an hour of use. When I exchanged my SX today I tried those Zillions as well. Nice reels, very light. But they look like something from a sci-fi movie.

Revo SX help
One silly question...... :-?Why didn't you just return it then, instead of opening it up and making things worse? : For probably the same reason you cracked open your first reel... I'd like to know how they work. I've got 3 STXs and a Premier and I'd like to service them myself come this off season. However, after that experience I may have to send you my Revo fleet this winter.

Revo SX help
<<Really doesn't matter now since you took it back, bet you didn't tell them your in training to be a service tech and took it apart, so the next guy doesn't get your mistakes.>> Yeah, I did. I told them it was grinding like hell to begin with.

revo stx vs. sx
I'm on my 3rd SX now. First two grinded like hell and took em' back. I have noticed that I can pitch further with the SX than the STX... dunno what that's about.

Revo SX help
Thanks man, still didn't work. I took it back.

Revo SX help
Ok, I took my SX apart tonight and I've followed the diagram putting it back together however everything seems to work but one thing and that is the handle turns but doesn't turn the spool around with it.I've spent 2 hours taking it apart and retrying to put it back together and each time the spool doesn't turn with the handle. Can anyone help?

revo stx vs. sx
I just got another SX after swearing them off two weeks ago. This one is not as smooth as my STXs as well. What is it about the SX? This one is not as bad as my first SX and you can only feel slight grinding when reeling in a bait that puts pressure on the reel like a deep diving crank bait.
