  1. Strike King Redeye and Cordell Super Spot.
  2. I agree. I have had better success with Bobby's Perfect Frog than Spro, but I also use it much more.
  3. Strike King Timberspin. Anyone have any they want to unload?
  4. X2 Much better designed bait.
  5. 1/2 oz. buzzbait just before dusk, black of course.
  6. Bobby- I don't know if I am getting a free bait or not but there is no doubt that the world needs more people like you in it. God bless you!!! P.S. My PB is a 7.5 caught near Chicago on a buzzbait some years ago. Easily the most fun way to fish.
  7. Agreed! Give it a couple seconds before you set that hook! To answer your questions, If I'm gettin topwater bites, I'ma keep throwin topwater lures. NOTHING is more fun than a big ol' bass jumpin up to eat that thing! I like to cover the entire area I'm fishing every which way two or three times. Also agree but there are times when you do everything right and still cannot get a hookup. That is when you toss a follow up bait right where the miss was. My favorite is a Senko type or a Strike King Z-Too which floats so you can twitch it in place.
  8. Seems like a good option for him if the frog turning over is a big deal to him. Don't see any issue with offering them up, he may not have thought of them before. That said, I have only tried the toads that *** sent in my freebie pack but I like them a lot. They do turn over but on either side put out a lot of noise and really churn up the water. X2 If you want a frog that makes a commotion try a Scumfrog Bigfoot. Stanley Ribbits and Sizemic make floaters but if you add a 4/0 or 5/0 heavy wire hook, they still sink but very slowly. I always raise my rod and start reeling fast right before the bait hits the water and adjust as it's coming in.
  9. The answer is a stronger hook, but even light wire doesn't bend on the hook-set. Hooks straighten out under stress from fighting a fish or more often, hanging up. Unless you are fishing with a circle hook, reeling up slack is not a satisfactory substitute for setting the hook, regardless of the line you are using. : Have to disagree with hooks not bending or breaking on hookset. I'm 6'4", 265 and really lay the wood to em on the hookset. After having a few light wire or lesser brands break or come right back straightened, went to Superline , Mustad Heavy and Owner heavy. No more problems. Must agree on reeling in slack to set hook. For circle hooks only. (That's what they were designed for). Caught a 650 LB. Blue Marlin pithing a bait to him watching him swim away and clicking over the reel and winding. Took about and hour but got him in on 30lb. main line, 80 lb. leader. Pretty Lucky!
  10. Don't put so much faith into what they "say" is winning tournaments. Pros can win with any bait, but they "choose" to "say" they won with the baits that pay the $. Besides, the tournament $$ is small change compared to what the elite pros get in contract $$ from sponsors. i like terminator t1's and strike king. pros are getting paid to say things most of the time imo. I'm sure they say what they a told to say but when you see them landing a fish and unhooking it it becomes clear what they are using and when I get my Bassmaster it usually bears out. Also if you notice, there is a photograher in each pro's boat and a floatilla of boats watching their every move. Wish I got their $$ for endorsements!!!
  11. BPS brand is pretty good and has more color options. I'm old school and stick a chunk of pork on them and do real good in the pads in the spring before you can walk across them. I really miss Strike Kings Timber Spin and Timber King. Used to be my go-to baits. If anyone out there knows where I can get them send P.M. Jawbreakers by Northland are similar but not the same.
  12. Wouldn't matter a bit once I grabbed that hawg and got it in the boat. I like fishing a swimbait vs. a drop shot but that's a personal choice.
  13. I actually seek this stuff out when it is there. Use a Bobby's or Spro frog and cast up onto the bank. Use steady retreive so fish can home in on it. Have caught many bigun's this way. It's usually a tad cooler under the mat from the shade also. Be sure there is 3-4 feet of water beneath or it could be a stagnant mess.
  14. Strike King. T-1 good but when is the last time an Elite event or Classic even listed it as one of the baits the top 5 finishers used? Not biased but with $25,000 on the line that tells me something.

Try throwing a Fluke or Z-Too to the same area. Start with slow jerking retreive and if nothing, speed up. Fish might want something a little less noisy.
  16. They are the EXACT same baits as a GYCB Senko........right down to the GYB molded on the "egg sack". Ditto Except you only get 7 per bag so it might seem like a better bargain but isn't.
  17. Avoid Bass Pro- Inconsistent quality. I catch more on Tiki-Sticks but probably because I use then more. Senkos probably the best but I can't afford to have one tear every time I pull it off a weed or a rockbass hits and I get back half a lure. I leave the bag on the casting deck in the sun and this actually softens them up a bit. Also I have had a bass run with a Tiki-Stick for a good couple of minutes just watching him. Have to try trick sticks.
  18. I've been really liking the Strike King models with the perfect skirt Colorado, Willow combo. Favorite for a while has been BPS Tornado. Listen to RW. T-1 lasts forever.
  19. Just sent. Got to start checking the forum out earlier. Hope I,m not too late. Would love to try on heavy pressured waters near Chicago! :-/
  20. Tackle Warehouse, BPS, even try Cabelas. 1 of those 3 will have what you need. Always check E-Bay too! ( I'm another cheapo!)
  21. As far as quality, you can't go wrong with Owner, Gammie, Mustad. As far as best, whichever one you have tied on when you lip that lunker!
  22. CWB replied to Michael J's topic in Fishing Tackle
I go the exact opposite. Clear water, tough bite, Strike King worm and shakey head, slow retrieve around isolated cover, even sightfish.
  23. Broke down and bought one after watching Bassmaster Elite Event where everyone was using it and catching fish. After about 20 min. landed a 3 1/2 pounder. Not 5 casts later a musky about 45" grabbed it and took it with him. :'(. Up here where there are toothy critters its hard to plunk down $15.00-$20.00 on a bait when you know that any cast could be its last. Great bait though!

They seem to require less slack and quicker pace than most "Spook" type baits. Practice and it should pay off although there are easier working baits out there.
