  1. Thanks Steve- Now all we need are the baits!!!!!!!
  2. Agree 100%. There was a similar thread a little while ago. If you bring in a bass with the hook blocking it's gullet and get get it out without doing further damage, you might as well keep him to eat. Put him in the livewell for a while and see how he does. He's most likely toast anyway. Don't feel bad about it either.
  3. I hear ya on the Space Monkey. The Smokin' Rooster is good on top as well.

I'm going to nip this feud in the bud. I agree with Dan and Koopa. I use 50lb Power Pro for my frog fishing now but I used to use 17lb Trilene XT and never had a breakoff. If I had one hang me up, I'd go in and get him. Literally. Once I could not reach down to the fish so I jumped in and came out wit a fat 4 pounder. The key is as Dan said, get his head up and keep him coming. I throw the Rage Shad, my new favorite bait, on 17 lb. Trilene Big Game and have had no problems. I seem to get longer casts with the lighter Shads than with braid.

Colors for Poppers and Buzzbaits doesn't matter too much. With Poppers stay with natural colors. For spinnerbaits, I prefer Gold Blades with shad colored or White, White/Chartreuse, or Sexy Shad skirts. Reel it in fast so fish reacts and doesn't have a chance to think about it. Use the lightest test Flourocarbon line you can get away with - 10 or 12 lb. should be fine. For me clear water is where a Green Pumpkin 5" Senko type bait on 10lb Flouro line shines.
  6. Hate to break up the HateFest going on and although I do prefer Tackle Warehouse, I have yet to have a serious problem with BPS. When there is a problem they always rectify it in a manner that is more than acceptable. Shipping could be faster though. I think they use USPS whereas T.W. uses UPS. T.W. shipped my last order overnight at no extra charge. probably looked up how much I've spent with them over the last few years and felt sorry for me.
  7. If other, please list. Also, a short explanation of hook style and size used and preferred color would be appreciated. I prefer Rage Toads in Green Pumpkin/Pearl on a 4/0-5/0 1/16 oz weighted Gammy superline hook as all toads have a habit of coming in upside down.
  8. WTG man!
  9. Sorry about the $14.00. I got mine on ebay for $10.25 with free shipping. have you used the baits since fixing? Anxious to see how it holds up. I have about 20 Shads waiting to be repaired. Let us know how they hold up after fixing. Tip- Don't let them get that bad before attempting to fix them. I did that because I only had 2 left and had already torn up about 15.

I've really taken a shine to Terminator's Pro's Secret and Football jigs. Mann's Stone jig is great also but hard to find. Strike kings Denny Brauer Premier Pro series are great as well. Don't forget to check out ***, who has a great selection, and the Evolution Jigs. For trailers: 1) Rage Craws. 2) Rage Craws. 3) See one and two.
  11. I definitely do not drink while fishing. Tends to diminish concentration and increase the need for pit stops which can lead to an unexpected plunge. I will have one or two after a successful day and maybe even more if I don't have to get up an hour before dawn the next day.

X2 Right on the head for me. I've caught fish on every color frog I own and have not found one to be better than the other. I throw them into the nastiest stuff I can find and the fish probably just feels the commotion and sees the trail. I use Snagproof Bobby's Perfect in the heavy stuff and ScumFrog Trophy in lighter stuff. I feel Spro's are too stiff. JMHO. Scumfrogs are a great alternative and cost $3.00 less. Very soft though and will snag up if you are fishing in reeds or other emergent vegetation. Give the Spro Jr. a try. I haven't noticed any difference in the quality of fish I catch and the body is much softer making hookups much better. A buddy of mine gave me another tip for increasing hookups....upgrade the size of the hooks. I think the standards Spros have 4/0 hooks that you can upgrade to 6/0 Owners and the Jrs have 3/0 that you can upgrade to 4/0. I ordered some 6/0 to try out so I'll report back after I've had the chance to use them. Honestly, I don't see the point of paying more for a bait and then taking the time and expense to change out the hooks. JMHO. To each his own. I do own and use Spro's, I just prefer the Snagproof and Scumfrog.
  13. How much rain fell. Enough to raise water levels? My best experience in these situations tells me to find newly flooded cover like stumps, laydowns, even the shallowest section of a dock or weeds that now have some water over them. If you can find current, fish the area hard. Look for clearer water also. Hit any creeks that flow into the lake. If you can catch it when the water clears up and is just starting to drop, hold on!
  14. If there are carp, there will be bass. Some of my biggest bass have come from about a foot of crystal clear water either sight fishing or under and around boats/docks.
  15. Let me guess. You supervised the operation with a beer in hand.
  16. For me it would be a Senko. I fish mostly shallow grassy dock lined lakes and Senkos are ideal.
  17. I fish a couple of small connected lakes that we have a cottage on that has been in the family for 40 years. I've been going up there as often as I can remember. These are natural lakes with the only major structure being weeds, weededges, docks, and slop. 99% of it looks the same. Through years of fishing the lakes I have learned the subtle differences that makes one spot hold fish and another not. Made the mistake of marking a map for a co-worker who had just purchased a boat and now him or one of his buddies is on one or more of my spots whenever I go out. I get up before sunrise and go out and there they are. Very frustrating to say the least. If he didn't blab to all his buddies, no problem. But on a small lake, there are only so many good spots. Plus all the locals and my neighbors know my spots but If I'm out , they give me the right of way as I showed the spots to them. That's cool. Never will I blab again. Too much time and effort went into my findings for a lazy imposter to take them over. Sorry for the rant but this hit a nerve. >
  18. Scuppernong is not on the list? Harry and Charlie would be very disappointed. I decided it is my right as an American to not vote at all. Better to not vote than vote fro a bad choice. No Political overtones here. As Geddy Lee of Rush said, "If you choose not to decide, you still have made a choice".
  19. A man of principle... just another reason you are top shelf in my book, Raul. I gotta have a serious talk with them people of ***, we ( myself included ) send them a lot of business, it 's time for them to share a small part of that benefit by sponsoring BR. If you start a letter or email writing campaign, let me and everyone else know. Power in numbers.
  20. Hey Raul- Remember Culprit's Dart Baiter? Casts a mile and could rig as topwater, shallow jerkbait, and deep jerkbait just by where you started the hook into the bait. I still have a bunch of those in pink. Maybe I'm dating myself. Still have several and use the Pink Sluggos. They work when nothing else will but I do tend to keep my rod low to the water so noone sees them.

Rigging is pretty simple and comes out skin hooked in the end. I start the hook as I would with any plastic bait and then measure where the bend of the hook would go when the point is inserted through the bait. I then push the point straight through the bait at that point, making sure it is exactly in the middle and it comes out perfectly rigged for skin hooking the point. Learned this from Texposing my Sluggos. Key is pushing the point straight through the bait, not on an angle as you would with a worm etc. Hope this helps.
  23. Kent- The banquet was great but don't forget about your burgers and Speeds chicken. Although by the looks of it you guys might need a few more grills and junior chefs to help out if you plan on repeating next year. I'm in if you need the help! Of course, I will have to sample the stuff before it's served to make sure everything's O.K.
  24. My best on a Senko is 6.5 from under a Pontoon Boat. 5" Black/Blue Flake. The beauty of this bait is it catches anything in the area, big or small. You might need to fish it in some different locations that are known big fish hangouts.

5/0 Gammy Superline hook works great for me. I throw it on 50 lb Power Pro braid. You are forced to wait to set the hook with braid or you will just be pulling bait out of fish's mouth. Some days that's just the way it is. Last Saturday I had several hits and couldn't miss. Then on Sunday, same or maybe even more hits and only got a few to hook up. All above advice is on the money but even then you will have days like you had. Keep at it and your luck will change. This is truly a phenomenal bait that does get bit alot.
