I put spinnerbait but my all-time favorite bait, based on my best day ever, is more of a hybrid spoon/spinner. Strike Kings Timber Spin. Caught five bass weighing about 22lbs on probably 20 casts one magical spring day about 15 years ago. Anyone have any they don't use?

I use the Craw as a jig trailer. For straight t-rigging I use the Lobster. 5/0 round bend offset gammie.

Ice Cold Sam Adams. Or If I just want to take it slow, Guinness. P.S. Any beer you have to shove a lime into does not count as a beer.

Throw in some with Chartreuse for dirtier water and have to have some in Rayburn Red for ripping through grass to imitate crawfish. This is my No 1 rattle bait now passing up the Redeye Shad. Added bonus I got 8 of them at Dick's a while back when they had Excalibur baits 50% off. I don't think these were part of the promotion but talked salesperson into it. $3.25 each was a steal.

Great job Furbit. Megastrike is awesome stuff! Don't want to open the debate as to whether attractants actually get you more bites but 1) I firmly believe they do and 2) The fish hold on longer giving you more time to hammer em. I use it on all my soft plastics, anything with a skirt such as a jig or spinnerbait and even hard baits. Kudos to Bobby on a great product.

My first thought was to respond that "The fish are somewhere in the water" but we're all above that kind of stuff. Agree with post spawn from JJ08 but don't assume all females are deep and all males are shallow. Use that as a general rule of thumb. Being from your neck of the woods I catch big females all throughout the post spawn and summer in water from 2-4 feet deep. (around and under docks etc.) Main forage for these fish are bluegills which tend to stay shallow or suspend lest they get eaten by even bigger fish such as pike and muskies. Don'T assume because the water is shallow and warm the bass won't be there. Cover is the key.

Yelp! January 1st - December 31st Go ahead and rub it in. Up here there is usually a closed season of about a month, maybe more, to give the bass a fair shot at spawning. Varies by state and even lake. My home lake has site specific regulations that are based on population surveys. You wouldn't believe the amount of people I see minnow fishing for panfish whooping and hollering when they catch a 12' bass. Right in the basket it goes. I have never been bothered but I don't keep 'em anyway. Have a rod rigged with a jerkbait as my "Walleye Rod" just in case. As Marty says, check your states regulations.

Being the cheapo I am, I use these type baits as follows: Catch as many as I can T-rigged weightless. When nose gets torn up, Re-hook 180 deg. if bait not too bad or bite off 1/4" and start from scratch. If that doesn't work, I turn the bait around and hook it thu the arse as you brought up. And then when you think the bait is ready to be tossed, Rig it wacky style.

Best advice I can give is to re-think your trip. If there is a Bass Pro or even Cabela's close by, head there instead. I have all 3 within an hour of me and Bass pro put the other 2 to shame. Cabela's a distant second and Gander Mountain not worth my time. The latter 2 seem more geared to hunting in this area but could be different by you. And don't expect Cabela's to have in the store what they have in the catalog. BPS often has much more than what is in the catalog. Or maybe save a trip altogether and shop online. BPS and Tackle Warehouse get my vote there. Cabela's O.K also. To answer your question would require a book. I'm sure one of the mods can put up a link to help you out.

Looks exactly like a large version of the pleco's I have in my aquarium. There is one pet shop in my area that has a good sized pool/tank with larger fish in it and there are a few that size or bigger in it. I know it's against most peoples nature to kill something for no reason but these types of invasive species should not be returned to the water.

Don't give up on them. They do have great swimming action. They also are fairly light so I use them on heavy spinning tackle and 20-30 lb powerpro braid. No problems hooking fish so my guess is it's not the bait. I have noticed some have thicker bodies than others. I wrote a letter to Southern Lure Co. a while back and they said they were aware of the problem and were correcting it. They sent me 5 baits and all had heavier bodies. Alot of times the fish will inhale the bait and a pound of junk surrounding it so no matter what frog you have on or when you set the hook, you ain't gonna get him. Be your own judge. If you listened to what most people say here, all you would use would be Shimano, Loomis and Lucky Craft. Not bad choices by any means but not the only ones either. I know I'm going to get blasted for statement above.

Like last year, If they are in the hunt at the allstar break and they get Ramirez back, Harden comes back and stays healthy, and Big Z and Bradley stay out of trouble, it will be interesting. If all goes well those up in Milwaukee and down in St. Louis might get more and more nervous as the season goes on. Sooner or later they will get some hitting to go with what has been stellar pitching so far if you don't count a couple of game the bullpen gave away. October is another story.
