  1. Check this- A little closer to home. http://www.usgs.gov/newsroom/article.asp?ID=1911
  2. Yeah, here's one example: Lucky Craft G-Splash MSRP $15.99, priced after all discounts: $5.59. Will you take a check?
  3. I go to mine at least once a month on my lunch hour and it always seems to be different. Usually there is something marked pretty far under retail price so trip is usually worth it. Probably going to go today to see what's what before heading to BPS tomorrow A.M. and spending my last $300.00.
  4. I use a BPS Cajun trailer about 50% of the time. I have also used curl tail grubs. The new skirts by Strike King and Z-Man have trailers built in. Seems to be personal preference or confidence thing. I almost always use a trailer hook though.
  5. On the Hook 'N Look TV show they were diving in Lake Michigan and all the Gobys seemed to act more like crawfish than fish. They hug the bottom and scurry a couple of feet and stop. I might try dragging quickly for a foot or 2 and pausing to start with. Experiment from there.
  6. Snagproof Bobby's Perfect. Softer than Bronzeye. I've found in the real thick pads with junk weed around them these cannot be beat. Alot of times the bass inhales a ton of slop along with the bait and you need a softer bait to get a hook into the fish instead of just pulling the whole mess out of his mouth. Next choice would be Scumfrog Trophy but it tends to get hung up a little more as it might be too soft. Then I'd go with Bronzeye or Boze Sumo if just thick pads.
  7. Wait a minute. I resemble that remark! (Curly 1942) I've been wearing glasses since I was 13. That makes it... I can't count that high anymore. I wear no-line trifocals and am having much greater luck tying knots etc. Cost more and take some getting used to but well worth it. No-line won't even give away the fact that you're a geezer like me. Great selection of clip on and flip up sunglasses out there today are a big bonus for us old guys. Now if they would only come up with a cane I could fish with.
  8. I have back trouble also. I can't stand for more than 10 minutes. I alternate between casting and spinning. Slow fishing with plastics on spinning gear like Senkos and worms gets me recharged a bit. Live bait and a beer always an option. No one will think you aren't "macho" for using live bait (unless you're one of those short guys from an earlier thread) ;D ;D. Good luck to you and don't give up. Where there's a bass, there's a way!
  9. Jimmy Houston did a demo on one of his latest shows and it was awsome. He did about 10 casts, each time showing each movement of the rod, arm, and wrist position from beginning to end.
  10. There was an earlier thread about replacing bearings with ceramic type and drag washers with con matrix type. Should still be recent and has links.
  11. CWB replied to osbornj2's topic in Fishing Tackle
It's definitely a mistake from the manufacturer. Send it to me and I will see if I can get them to replace it for you. ;D ;D
  12. If memory serves, they resemble modern finesse worms with a smaller paddle tail. I just picked up a bag of 100 Lindy Swipes, 6" in black on ebay for a buck. I think this was the best produced, most detailed worm ever made. Looks like the predecessor to the GYCB and Kinami Kut Tail. Oldies alot of times are still goodies.
  13. I actually *** shorter people. Several advantages. You can shop for clothes in the kids section, you don't have to bend over when going through a doorway, you can fit into any car and not have you knees in your chin. I could go on and on. ;D ;D ;D No angry PM's please. Just kidding.
  14. You should fish every day. I have a note from my doctor that says just that. It reduces stress. It also says to spend more time doing things my wife and I both enjoy but I'm still trying to find one to start off with. ;D
  15. My wife thinks I'm having an online affair.
  16. I would be the perfect height if I weighed 25 lbs less.
  17. Check out Daiwa's Regal XiA. Solid, dependable, 10BB, smooth drag. Mine is 3 years old and still works like new.
  18. I have 2 Extremes and one SilverMax. Extreme hands down in every way. Also, it's on sale at BPS in store for under $60.00. Can't beat that. If you want to check the bearings, turn spool control knob all they way loose and turn off whatever braking the reel has and give the spool a good spin. I did this last night and the Extreme spun much longer than the Abu.
  19. I have one rod set up this way for one specific application. I throw a Scumfrog Bigfoot on 30lb. braid because the thing only weighs 1/4-3/8 ounce and is hard to get any distance any other way and I love that bait!
  20. I can't offer much advise as I am 6'3". But keep in mind you are already a couple of feet above the waters surface on the deck of your boat. Maybe you can measure from the waterline to the deck and if it is 2 feet, stand on something 2 feet in your back yard and practice, practice, practice. As Islandbass suggested, maybe a 7' rod would work.
  21. Absolutely agree. All relative though. If fish are suspended 10 feet down over 20 feet in stained water, your chances drop on getting them to hit a jig or worm. Rattles would be a plus. Clear water will improve your chances as they might see the bait fall and see or hear it clicking around on the bottom. 1 or 2 feet off bottom would not affect this presentation.
  22. Might be O.K if you don't fish 300 days a year but be wary of any reel with a graphite frame. Not too strong. I too love the Extreme's. Great value on a great reel.
  23. Good article. I really fell bad that he has to weed through 5-8 pounders to get a ten. >
  24. I'll take the beaver over the tube any day. Interpret that as you wish.
  25. No Nudity or just no nudity of Burley? Pic sent.
