Returning to structure once found on electronics
Returning to structure once found on electronics ~ @Scherbacj I fished for several years using a very similar process as you mentioned above. Sometimes It worked out. Often it was an exercise in futility, especially on big bodies of water, marking fairly small targets and in less than ideal conditions. I've all but abandoned that methodology. So instead of dropping a way point directly on anything I want to fish, I put ALL my waypoints where the boat needs to be located to fish that particular deal effectively. A couple of points of interest; It keeps me off the fish, I may have to mark a coupe of spots at each 'end' of a target, to account for wind, waves or current. As for 'initially finding' them and re-locating them. Once I go over or by them I'll put my pin right there just for reference. I might leave it and fish there or I might discover a better location and erase that one and use the new one. Really helped clean up my units of what I can only designate as BS way points. This is a work in progress as last season I erased nearly 1,000 way points collected over several years on several lakes, that were admittedly a Helter Skelter collection of only half usable deals. So I started from scratch using the above method. Has worked out well so far and the mantra is "Trust the Way Point. Good Luck A-Jay

Do you need a dedicated jerkbait rod or can your MH “do everything” rod serve this purpose just fine?
Rod is a 7' MF St Croix Avid And the reel is a Daiwa Tatula MQ LT 3000D-CHX Spinning Reel It's pictured below. Seen here as a topwater deal, However I use the same rig for jerkbaits, including the line & leader combination Finally, while this IMO is a most decent set up, A basshead can do very well with a less expensive rig. It's not the arrow, it's the Indian. Good Luck A-Jay

Jerkbait Rod
For standard & smaller sized jerkbaits I'm about 93.7 % spinning. (That might even be a little low, especially that .7) I blame the wind and being such a novice caster. When it is spinning, I go Light Braid mainline with a pretty long light FC or mono leader. Bigger jerk baits (think LC 128) usually end up on casting gear, with straight 12 FC. Either way, not sure spinning/casting matters all that much, as long as the gear is matched & balanced with the bait. Still a treble hook bait and sometimes those hooks a pretty small. Something to take into account for sure. A-Jay https://youtu.be/W2jqCf7BVAE?feature=shared

If you don't fish tournaments, why do you fish for bass?
@JHoss when I first read this post, I actually thought you were writing it in jest. I mean C'mon man, really, You find it odd ? How the other half thinks ? Like you came out of the womb and fished a tournament the very next day right ? Good Luck with your quest for the answer to this this most "complicated" question. Looks like winter's setting in early - again. A-Jay

Short bass boats to consider
Only reason I didn't go the same direction is I can get the trailer over The lip (yes I have one too), with the truck. After that it's a cake walk. A-Jay

Short bass boats to consider
Yes. Perhaps have your drive way re-done. A-Jay

Short bass boats to consider
My boat goes into the garage about 1/2 way with the truck and then the last 1/2 of fitment is done by A-Jay power. After a year of battling that stock trailer jack wheel. Seen below and is pretty useless. I replaced it with this ~ ABT Lure Trailer Jack Skate Needed a couple of 3/4" wrenches & about 90 seconds - tops. This is totally the way to go. Designed to make tight space maneuverability much easier and it definitely does. Especially with a single axle trailer. I can easily bring the boat to the truck. Read that again. It's a Heavy Duty 11 inch Triangular Jack Skate System made of 6061 Grade Aluminum with a 525 lb weight capacity. Sports Heavy Duty Urethane Wheels w/ swivel casters, zinc coated bearings & a locking brake. Highly Recommended. If a graphite rod provides the same action as a composite/glass…
Problem IMO, is rarely are all things Equal. So the 'Superior" choice for me changes with the situation. Factors that come into play include (but might not be limited to) Casting distance, Strike detection, Long distance Hook setting ability, Fighting & landing the bass, finally, and this is so completely specific to each of us, it NEEDS to feel GOOD in my hands. Can't really expand or quantify that one, but it's a big deal for me. I have Glass, Composite & Graphite. I no longer fish the all glass sticks. #retired. The vast majority of my horizontal moving baits, both single & treble hook deals are fished on a couple of different types of composite sticks. There's always exceptions, and I make them when I need to. However over all they represent a fairly small percentage of what I do & need. But I'm glad I have them when I need them. 2 of the sticks below are Moderate action Graphite (A-Rig rods) The rest are all some type of Graphite/Glass Composite blend. A-Jay

Winter Storage
Thanks you so much for your concern. And you're right, it can be a little rugged at times. But the reward for waiting out the long hard water season is fishing for bass that have been totally unmolested for several months. So perhaps you could take solace in that. A-Jay

Why arent more reels like this(Quantum smoke s3)
Yup ~ Especially when there's a plethora of rods and reels, both these simple deals are nice to have. Rapid Fishing Solutions Line Clips ~ https://www.rapidfishingsolutions.com/products/line-clips/ TW has them as well. https://www.tacklewarehouse.com/catpage-RAPDACC.html A-Jay

Why arent more reels like this(Quantum smoke s3)
I've been using Quantum Tour PT's, and EVO reels successfully for a while. Accounted for many a big bass, both locally and abroad. Many of these reels are pictured below. This year I down sized my tackle quite a bit and replaced some with Shimano & Diawa offerings. Finally, every Quantum reel pictured here will be for sale (The quantum rods they were on too) very soon here in the BR Flea Market thread. As always, they'll be priced to sell. A-Jay

Working to Stay Lean ~
Back around to Workout Day 1 this morning. This one was tough before it even started. Have a lot on my mind. And even with an extra day off, which often has me chomping at the bit to get in the gym, I really felt like I was dragging my azz down there. Once I got going I felt a little better. But it was a true mental battle to get this one done. Sometimes it just goes like that. Plan on treating myself with a big fat ribeye for lunch. #borninfiftynine A-Jay

Shaping up to be a pretty good year ~
And just to put a wrap on this one . . . . . Amidst some pretty high hopes, and something close to 6 more months to fish, I never did improve on the 31 lb bag I ended April this year with. Not making an excuse but I wasn't on the water as much as I expected. But did give it the old college try. In Sept & Oct I bumped into some really nice 5 lb bass. However none carried sufficient weight to bump the smallest smb off the list which was 5.58 lb. So 5 fish for 31.23 lbs stands as the final mark for 2024. Not complaining. I'm hoping I can take another run at getting that elusive 30 + lb bag all in one day. Mean while, I'll just watch this deal over & over as motivation, until I can be out there again. https://youtu.be/l4JGH21R93Q?feature=shared Stay Safe & Warm A-Jay

Coping with chronic heart ache ~
Been just over three weeks ~ and a busy / rugged three weeks. Each week has included several eye exams, blood draws, at least two chemo infusions as well as visits to the hematologist, rheumatologist and nephrologist. Like just about all folks waiting for 'test results' the waiting is mind numbing and brutal. Almost don't want to answer the phone. Either way, got some good news and some not so good news. Good news, Lynn's kidney function numbers continue to improve. Enough that she's scheduled next week to have surgery to remove the device in her leg where she was getting her treatment through. We're pretty happy about most all of that. Not so good news. Although the eye surgery successfully removed the blood that was in her eye, Lynn's vision was not improving as hoped/expected. Upon further exam, and not that the surgeon could see what was going on in there, Lynn's retina has been irreparably damaged. Something they couldn't see before. So while she has 'some limited' vision back in her right eye, unfortunately it's not nearly as significant as we were hoping for. Much of this has taken a toll, always does but we're Still taking one day at a time and trying to make making the best out of the cards we're dealt. Our 25 wedding anniversary is on the 13th this month, not sure how that's going to go. I do know I'll be taking a break from adding anything here for a while. At least until after the New Year anyway. Stay Safe & Healthy. Thanks again A-Jay
