  1. If you're fishing braid, especially some of the lighter stuff, they are prone to tangling up in baits. Adding a leader usually fixes it. A-Jay
  2. Which baits ? A-Jay
  3. Thanks for sharing that link - very good reading.. Now That's a Reality show. A-Jay
  4. "hands me a condom. I told him he was making a hasty judgement about me. LOL~ That's was a coffee Sprayer right there . . . . . . Thanks I needed that. A-Jay
  5. Warmed up here a bit as well. Of course "warm" is a relative term. Fishing is still a long way off but add this to the time change and there may actually be a spring this year. A-Jay
  6. Very Sorry to hear of your loss. A-Jay

Hello and Welcome to BR ~ Thanks for sharing some killer shots of excellent fish. A-Jay
  10. Several factors come into play regarding the need to replace line. When routinely fishing water void of structure and/or cover, ones line usually experiences significantly less trauma than when angling is areas with rock bottoms, wood, weeds as well as man made cover. This fact is often over looked by the casual weekend angler but is almost always addressed directly by the purist and certainly all tournament anglers; at least the ones serious about the competition. Red Earth your position on frugality as it relates to your particular angling experiences has been well documented. If I were you, I'd check my line. The bigger fish have a way of showing us exactly where the weakest points in our tackle systems are. A-Jay
  11. There is so much good in that I can't help but smile. The bolded text is fantastic and a sign of the times. I can see how it could happen. Perhaps it's the by product of this most recent generation of too busy adults relying on a television to supervise their children. It seems that these folks now parents themselves, are applying what they learned and using today's electronics to do the same. My concern revolves around what may be lost in the translation. Yesterday at the grocery store we watched a scene that is so normal now that it goes mostly unnoticed. A "family" was shopping. Mom was pushing and loading the cart. Dad and all three children had phones in hand, completely focused on it's use and function. Never looking up, never speaking and barley able to navigate without walking into something. What a sad way to drift through life. The debate of phone or no phone will continue. Perhaps it comes down to perspective. How do you define "a Phone's" use ? Is it a recreational luxury, a necessity, or both. I did my parenting a while ago and the times have clearly changed. A-Jay

  15. Nope - with that draft pick attached to his contract no one wants to take the plunge - Once the draft is over, he & his turd of an agent expect to get a contract but I'm betting it won't be close to what the Sox had initially offered. I like Drew but he played this one poorly. A-Jay
  16. First off I'll say I like their motto this year in spring training - "Turn the ###### Page" I fully expect Middlebrooks to stay healthy and besides being a super star at third, I'm looking for him to Tear The Cover off the Ball . . . . . . Also it will be interesting to see what Mr. Congeniality - AJ Pierzynski - will bring to the table. I was a little disappointed to see Big Papi was actually Big - could ya have a salad once in a while . . . A-Jay
  17. The water levels on the lakes in this area have been on a steady decline for 4-5 years. The past few years we have enjoyed fairly mild winters as far as total snow fall is concerned. One would hope & expect that this freak show of a snow season would improve the levels. At this point we'll take any improvement we can get. A-Jay
  18. I do not have any Powell rods but don't believe that matters here. How can anyone accurately discern over the phone, if a visible defect is cosmetic or not ? There is no way of telling what, if any, trauma the blank has incurred. The BR membership includes several very reputable custom rod builders, which I am not. Perhaps you will get the benefit of a professional here. I'd return it and start fresh. A-Jay
  19. Hello and Welcome to BR ~ A post here is usually based around an informal personal presentation of one's self to the BR membership. So you're a Battery Guy ? A-Jay
  20. I fish from a canoe - and I do carry a small first aid kit and some items that I consider survival gear. What gear you carry can depend on where you fish and the challenges that environment will subject you to. I routinely fish in fairly out lying areas, with No cell coverage, and quite often alone at night. So there is a chance I could be spending at least a night in the woods. My gear revolves around that scenario. Change of cloths & fire building items (in a dry bag), poncho for shelter, and survival knife with compass. I'm a chow hound so I'm rarely without food & water, but I'll admit often times I don't bring more than I plan on using for a planned trip. The Best two pieces of advice I can give are: 1) wear your Life Jacket (PFD) and 2) Make Sure you tell someone exactly where you're going, when you're coming back and who to call if you do not return as planned AND leave them the phone number you want them to call. Additionally it would be very beneficial if who ever they're calling actually has the ability, willingness and desire to go look for you. A-Jay
  21. Cool ~ Instantly claifies why Big Swim baits work . . . . . A-Jay
  22. I also use the Boomerang tool snips. And for the really big stuff . . . . . . A-Jay

  24. Right hand dominant ~ Reel right hand retrieve. Over the years I've jacked up both shoulders pretty good so I've learned to cast either way depending on which rotator cuff and medial head is the crankiest. Incidentally, while learning to cast off the left side. I learned that for me, it's all about technique and not power. A-Jay
