My boat goes into the garage about 1/2 way with the truck and then the last 1/2 of fitment is done by A-Jay power. After a year of battling that stock trailer jack wheel. Seen below and is pretty useless. I replaced it with this ~ ABT Lure Trailer Jack Skate Needed a couple of 3/4" wrenches & about 90 seconds - tops. This is totally the way to go. Designed to make tight space maneuverability much easier and it definitely does. Especially with a single axle trailer. I can easily bring the boat to the truck. Read that again. Problem IMO, is rarely are all things Equal. So the 'Superior" choice for me changes with the situation. Factors that come into play include (but might not be limited to) Casting distance, Strike detection, Long distance Hook setting ability, Fighting & landing the bass, finally, and this is so completely specific to each of us, it NEEDS to feel GOOD in my hands. Can't really expand or quantify that one, but it's a big deal for me. I have Glass, Composite & Graphite. I no longer fish the all glass sticks. #retired. The vast majority of my horizontal moving baits, both single & treble hook deals are fished on a couple of different types of composite sticks. There's always exceptions, and I make them when I need to. However over all they represent a fairly small percentage of what I do & need. But I'm glad I have them when I need them. 2 of the sticks below are Moderate action Graphite (A-Rig rods) The rest are all some type of Graphite/Glass Composite blend. A-Jay

Thanks you so much for your concern. And you're right, it can be a little rugged at times. But the reward for waiting out the long hard water season is fishing for bass that have been totally unmolested for several months. So perhaps you could take solace in that. A-Jay

I've been using Quantum Tour PT's, and EVO reels successfully for a while. Accounted for many a big bass, both locally and abroad. Many of these reels are pictured below. This year I down sized my tackle quite a bit and replaced some with Shimano & Diawa offerings. Back around to Workout Day 1 this morning. This one was tough before it even started. Have a lot on my mind. And even with an extra day off, which often has me chomping at the bit to get in the gym, I really felt like I was dragging my azz down there. Once I got going I felt a little better. But it was a true mental battle to get this one done. Sometimes it just goes like that. Plan on treating myself with a big fat ribeye for lunch. #borninfiftynine A-Jay

And just to put a wrap on this one . . . . . Amidst some pretty high hopes, and something close to 6 more months to fish, I never did improve on the 31 lb bag I ended April this year with. Not making an excuse but I wasn't on the water as much as I expected. But did give it the old college try. In Sept & Oct I bumped into some really nice 5 lb bass. However none carried sufficient weight to bump the smallest smb off the list which was 5.58 lb. So 5 fish for 31.23 lbs stands as the final mark for 2024. Not complaining. I'm hoping I can take another run at getting that elusive 30 + lb bag all in one day. Been just over three weeks ~ and a busy / rugged three weeks. Each week has included several eye exams, blood draws, at least two chemo infusions as well as visits to the hematologist, rheumatologist and nephrologist. Like just about all folks waiting for 'test results' the waiting is mind numbing and brutal. Almost don't want to answer the phone. Either way, got some good news and some not so good news. Good news, Lynn's kidney function numbers continue to improve. Enough that she's scheduled next week to have surgery to remove the device in her leg where she was getting her treatment through. We're pretty happy about most all of that. Not so good news. Although the eye surgery successfully removed the blood that was in her eye, Lynn's vision was not improving as hoped/expected. Upon further exam, and not that the surgeon could see what was going on in there, Lynn's retina has been irreparably damaged. Something they couldn't see before. So while she has 'some limited' vision back in her right eye, unfortunately it's not nearly as significant as we were hoping for. Much of this has taken a toll, always does but we're Still taking one day at a time and trying to make making the best out of the cards we're dealt. Our 25 wedding anniversary is on the 13th this month, not sure how that's going to go. I do know I'll be taking a break from adding anything here for a while. My rig is not equipped with FFS. Probably never will be. I am not familiar with how Mr Zaldain fishes jerkbait, but I'm not interested in it either. For the jerkbait deal, different rigs & baits represent the ability to present baits of different sizes, shapes/profiles, colors/patterns, sounds and running depths, where I need to. I rarely ever chose to 'dial it in'. I will almost always try a few different (usually proven ) baits in the same area. IMO, every fish is it's own creature and has likes and dislikes - like people. No pizza shop sells just peperoni pies. A-Jay

@casts_by_fly a year or two before you 'buy' ~ Perhaps rent a place near where you think you might like to settle down. Learn the area. Probably won't be long before you know if it's the right place or not. Don't forget to think about what the two of you might need 10-20 years from now. The relative distance from family needs always seems to increase as we age. Also if you folks think a place in "Nice" you'll probably have plenty of company. Could be Good, might not be so good. Do you carry multiple rods for the same technique ? Yes ~ for example When the Jerkbait bite is hot I'll have 5-7 on deck. Spinnerbait - at least 3 Vibrating jig - 4 Topwater - at least 4 Swinghead - 3 or 4 I think you get the Idea . . . . A-Jay
