  4. I don't think this has been mentioned yet, but there is a huge upside from spending a day on the water with an experienced Guide. It's one thing to watch a video and read about something - however, working for 6-8 hours with an angler who can Show you certain techniques - is a very good way to learn. Good Luck A-Jay

OK - so they showed up today - and it's pretty big as far as crankbaits go. When compared to a 5 & 6xd it looks quite sizable. Next to the 6 inch Bull Shad - not so much. The photo is - Top to Bottom: 5XD - 6XD -10XD - 6inch Bull Shad - 10XD - 6XD A-Jay

  9. No - It's all good. I like to fish visible man made structure myself - No doubt it produces. I do understand that during the planning phase, there is now way to predict where the fish will be. But If A-Jay was selecting the venue - I'd try to select one that has a variety of conditions throughout the lake, but separated by "zones". Hopefully there would be a better opportunity for the anglers to utilize alternate techniques. You have to admit - it seemed like the anglers themselves were getting tired of flipping the same 50 docks over and over and over and over . . . . . . . . . A-Jay
  10. CCW is a different issue and one that does not comes into play here for us. There are many reasons why this was our choice, here are some of the more important ones; Hands down the shotgun has the most stopping power. The shotgun creates a spread of shot multiple inches in diameter but generally one shot placed center mass is more than enough to stop an intruder. This model has a short 18 inch barrel, so it's easily maneuverable up close. Shotshells are relatively in expensive for practice rounds, but defense loads is a little more spendy, running a little more than handgun ammo on average, but not by much. Shotguns also rarely, if ever, jam. I respect others who have a different view, but I'm not looking to debate it here. A-Jay
  11. I believe over all it was an entertaining event to watch and I'm already looking forward to the next one. I will say however, that I am really hoping that whatever body of water they choose to hold the next one on - Please select one Completely Void of DOCKS. A-Jay
  12. I know there are several schools of thought on this subject Glenn. And although we do have an excellent alarm system, a whole pack of them in fact, our experience with Maritime L/E has made us firm believers in single shot stopping power. Here in the North Woods, you can dial 911 but it might be a While before you see "The Sheriff". A-Jay
  13. After weeding through several weapons and then making the short list, I chose to go with what my wife and I are most familiar with. A Remington 870 will be standing watch in my home and it feels good. A-Jay

  19. More good news, well sort of - At least you made it back safely to the dock and that's where you discovered the maintenance needs. If you had failed to notice the problem or ignored the signs, that's when these stories end up having quite a bit more to them. Hope it's not too bad. A-Jay
  20. This is not mine - but it helped me quite a bit. A-Jay When we are wrapped up in a 'mid-life crisis' it is very difficult to think clearly, to feel consistently, or to act predictably. Those of us who have lived fairly adult lives full of adult commitments, hit some point in time when we wonder if there is something more to life than being the good person that we have been. We begin to wonder about what life would have been like if we had done this or that instead of what we have done. Choices are reconsidered, values re-examined, commitments questioned. Obviously, it can be a season of chaos for everyone close to the mid-lifer. Here are actions you can take to make sure you grow through mid-life into a higher level of maturity and wisdom. Keep giving yourself a lot of positive self-talk "This is a critical time in my life and I need to navigate it well. I need to re-evaluate who I am so that I can grow-up and move ahead. Now is the time. Maybe I didn’t invite this confusion into my life, but it is here, and I am going to take advantage of it to become a stronger and more well centered person. No backing down." Figure out what principles you will organize your life around, and then begin to manage your life by those principles. If you do this, you will grow through this mid-life crisis. If not, you will have missed the incredible opportunity this is. Commit to living truthfully. Be truthful with yourself, with a friend, with a Spiritual Leader, and with your spouse. The truth will set you free, because grown-up people face the truth and live truthfully with others. If you are not telling the truth, what fear is driving you? Examine it. You are probably trying to manage your anxiety, or someone else's. Engage your Lover in the process of self-examination by asking your lover to articulate their principles as well. Ask your friends and family to do the same. I‘ve seen this work powerfully in extended families. Instead of fragmenting and falling apart, everyone gets centered, strong and healthy. During the mid-life crisis one deals with the shadow side of one’s persona. 'Dealing' with oneself at this level is a heroic adventure. Do it. Be your own hero. Wrestle with the demons and awaken to the truth. Do not, absolutely do not, be harsh with your loved ones. They are not the cause of your problems. You are outgrowing your own skin. Focus on your own growth and be gracious to those who live close to you. Again I say: This is a powerful time of growth that is the gateway into a more integrated, whole, and mature life. Be patient with yourself, and encourage your loved ones to be patient with you as well. Remember, the greatest gift you can give your marriage is your attention.
