Nice ~ Hope you're able to offer an update on how you like that Daiwa DX Type-H Glass stick. If it turns out not to be your cup of tea, let me know, I might be able to relieve you of said stick. Good Luck A-Jay

Wore them as a DI for 8 years. Miles of marching and close order drill daily they helped slow heel wear. Pretty sure there was a little bit of a psychological factor as well. A-Jay

Go Pro HERO12 Black ~
Just to be clear and to add some context as well as supplemental info here, on a day to day basis the Go Pro works GREAT. Super easy, point & shoot, stabilization is crazy good and I have over come shorter battery life with external battery packs (Juicepacks) But here in lies the problem. Besides running the cameras for 4-6hours straight, I have a couple of accessories (mods - Special lens & microphone - all GoPro branded accessories) mounted on the cameras that also contribute to the overheating deal. Which only happens locally on the hottest days but is a real problem in Mexico, where it might matter most. Otherwise, my fishing & workouts, the dogs adventures, trail and runs across the lake are all shot without incident. So they do mostly 'work' just not so good in the heat of the hottest days for long shoots. However, the pictures alone can be worth the price of admission. A-Jay

A-Jay's Annual Ice Out / Open Water Countdown Thread ~
In preparation of said potential CIR seaon, I highly enourage any and all enterprising and perhaps trophy brown bass hunters, to do some extensive prefishing now. So once the season opens and there's open water, you'll not need to waste valuable fishing time "looking" for potential early season fish holding areas. Because IME, they might not be where you would expect. Most of the super early season Menderchuck Magic happens shallow, near wood, on emergent weed growth and dark botton areas. Might look different in the fall than in the spring, but the secret sauce is Less is more and look for 40 - 45 degree water. You can thank me later. Oh btw. Don't get your arm broke. A-Jay

Go Pro HERO12 Black ~
Despite zero chatter on this one, I'll offer my own update. Recent on line reviews are still complaining of the hero 12 black overheating. So I'm standing pat with what I have. There's rumors of a 13 black coming out in Sept 2024. GoPro has been using the same processor since the 9 black. The 13 is 'supposed' to be getting the first upgrade. Hope it takes care of the overheating deal. That is all. A-Jay

A-Jay's Annual Ice Out / Open Water Countdown Thread ~
First 8 years I lived up here, there was NO YEAR ROUND CIR. So I would often have to wait SEVERAL Weeks after open water to bass fish. Once that changed, it was on like Donkey Kong ! A-Jay The Michigan Natural Resources Commission voted Thursday, April 9, 2015 to approve Fisheries Order 215.15 making catch-and-immediate-release (CIR) bass fishing legal year-round in Michigan effective immediately. The regular bass seasons do not change so there is no new bass tournament opportunity, only catch and release. But there is no longer a statewide closed bass season. You can fish for bass legally every day of the year now. You can’t keep bass during the January 1 to regular bass openers. You must release any smallmouth or largemouth bass you catch immediately. For most of Michigan, the possession season – regular opener (keeping bass, bass tournaments with catch-and-delayed-release [CDR]) – is the Saturday before Memorial Day until December 31. The Lake St. Clair, St. Clair River and Detroit River north of the southern tip of Celeron Island do not open for possession until the 3rd Saturday in June until December 31st. This later opener is a social delay not scientific according to MDNR bass studies. The Beaver Island Archipelago possession season runs July 1 until December 31st. From January 1 until these openers you can practice CIR bass fishing.

A-Jay's Annual Ice Out / Open Water Countdown Thread ~
Yea - that was 16 Apr 2016. Pretty wild day of brown bass. It was also warm air & FLAT calm water. I think the earliest open water I've seen was the last week of March a few years back. IME, doesn't matter how early there's open water, the best fishing happens after water temps get over 40 degrees. Some times that happen the first day of open water. Other times it takes a week or so: especially if we are still having a 'winter-like' weather pattern. Which can come and go all spring and right into May. I'll be ready either way. A-Jay

59 Days ~ Quiet weather and mild temperatures are expected to continue for the next several days. High temperatures for northern Michigan will continue to be well above normal for early February, along with partly cloudy to mostly sunny skies today through Monday. At least my face doesn't hurt when I go out side. (I know - It's killing you 🤪) (used to be local weather pic here - but now, not so much) "Tight Line Sunday" again. Going with by-catch today. This Fat-Back Pike catch ended with a clean release . But she sure made a mess of me & my rig before she left. https://youtu.be/S_Owp6ZVN0U?feature=shared&t=1360 A-Jay

The Learning Curve
Interesting topic and one that could probably be 'updated' every ten years or so. Might even seem to carry the same theme much of time as well. Availability of Bass fishing information is currently at an all time high. From my spot in the cheap seats, I can't really say if that's good or bad. I'm willing to bet that some of us that have been around a while, probably have already forgotten quite a bit of 'information' that bassheads who have taken up the sport in the last 5 or 10 years, may never learn. Some of that may revolve around the improvement of boats, motors, electronics, rods & reels, lines and even the baits themselves. Finally, good information (and there's a difference) can help point an angler in a certain direction. Experience helps us navigate the many crossroads which we inevitably encounter. Fish Hard. btw - I could really use a day of floating right about now. A-Jay

Tell me how stupid this is . . .
You're Welcome & Thanks. Not sure what's available now, but when I first started ordering the AFW the color options were black, camo and a 'silver'. Tried the black and the camo. Both worked but I had more confidence in the camo as it didn't seem to stick out as much in this clear water. Either way, I've just stay with what works for me. Good Luck.
