Load guide install
Lots of useful info in this thread. Best 'tip' I can offer is to do Everything Slow and don't let anyone put you in a rush. I launch & recover my rig solo most of the time. In both deals, trailer depth is key and to shallow is almost always better than too deep. My sweet spot is to have the boat trailer fenders right at or just below the surface of the water. Boat slides on & off much easier then. Here's what it looks like going on the trailer. https://youtu.be/1Y6eZUyhUUo?t=196 Good Luck and I hope this helps. You'll get it. A-Jay

Who is right, wrong? Planet Fitness manager, staff and I argument.
We do what we do - right or wrong. My solution to that deal might not have worked for you. But I would have been home a lot sooner. A-Jay

Introducing the Newest Member of Our Pack ~
Yea - I wanted to watch him and see what the deal was. Tank was mostly disinterested in the pool at first. However once the hose was turned on, and aimed in the pool, it was game on. A-Jay

Introducing the Newest Member of Our Pack ~
Smoking hot day here in the north woods. We decided to breakout the Puppy Pool for the first time for Tank. He seemed to enjoy it. Pretty sure we'll be needing a bigger pool. #tanklife A-Jay

"ripping" a treble hook bait thru grass.
Just looking at the bait itself, that LV500 comes in at 3/4 oz and you're essentially fishing in 2 ft of water over the tops of the weeds. That kind of weight doesn't offer much sink or reaction time before it crashes into the vegetation. Perhaps look at going with a lighter 1/2 oz bait. If you're a Lucky Craft fan the LV RTO 150 might just be the ticket. I usually go for a 1/2 oz RES regular or 2 Tap in that type of deal. Also a fast action graphite stick, a faster reel and 30lb braid does it for me. Some days the more times I hang up and then rip it out, the more bites I get. Other times just reeling at a speed where the bait will run just over the weeds and perhaps 'ticking' the tops as it goes (instead of actually bogging down) gets it done. Good Luck. A-Jay

Uses for Very Slow Vintage Baitcaster
I like slow reels and fish 5.7:1 round reels all the time. But 4 something is like another planet. If you're used to 7 speed and above reels, you're going to be surprised how slow those 4 reels actually are. Takes several minutes to retrieve a good cast. I was fishing from a canoe with a trolling motor for power. I started using the motor to move the boat away from hooked fish during the fight. It helped a little. My reels initially came out in the 70's, so I was like 12 years old. I guess that may have me approaching old timer status . . . . Good Luck. A-Jay

Uses for Very Slow Vintage Baitcaster
I have a couple of vintage Penn Levelmatic baitcasters (920/940) I that I initially used flounder fishing off the NJ coast. Both sport an agonizingly slow 4:1 gear ratio. I tried using them as a crankbait reels, mostly mid & deeper deals. It worked OK, but it took some getting used to. Hardest part for me was fighting fish that swam at me. Needing to reel fast is an understatement. I was losing fish so I bailed on the idea. A-Jay

Dropshot Leader Breakage Below Knot
I still wouldn't use it on straight braid. Has to some mono and at least one sketchy knot involved. A-Jay

Dropshot Leader Breakage Below Knot
Sure sounds do-able. And feels like it falls in the 'why didn't I think of that' category A-Jay

New Puppy ~
My wife takes the dogs out for some type of trail run just about every morning she's up for it. (and the road's not a mess). Went out yesterday and she recorded some Trike-joring video. Kya's grown and matured into quite the runner. Not much she loves more than doing this . . . Tank's still getting the hang of it all and prefers to run beside the Trike still. That almost always changes, eventually. A-Jay

Dropshot Leader Breakage Below Knot
My usually drop shot leader is 8 lb FC however I've had some of that break off stuff myself whenever I went down to a 6 lb FC leaders. (I was using InvisX) Kind of a bummer. I use 8 & 10 lb braid mostly and have since switched to using Maxima Ultragreen Line anytime I wanted 6 lb. Problem solved and I still get plenty of bites. This line at that test might be 0.001 inches larger in diameter than the FC I was using but the added knot strength is highly desirable. Started using it for the smaller Spybaits with decent success as well. A-Jay
