first time buying a bass boat - opinions wanted
Just to get this correct. The Pro-V Bass rod locker accommodates at least 15 rigs up to and including the 8 ft rods. I set up the majority of the Pro-V Bass tackle storage aft of the bench seating, quite a distance from the rod locker, which seems like easy access to me. A-Jay

spinnerbait blade configuration
I fish 'clear' water most of the time as well. My best spinnerbait conditions include any water that will have the brown bass in 10 feet or less and willing to chase a bait a ways; usually post spawn to mid-fall. There's almost always some type of cover for them to 'use' so that the bass is either being surprised by the bait or the bass feel like she's the one initiating the surprise, or both. The more visibility there is, or how far away a smallie can see my bait, the less time I want to offer her to look at it and make a decision whether to eat it or not. So while most any and all 'blade configurations' can & do produce, my best producers allow me to keep the bait moving along at a pretty good clip, while running straight/true (not turning over on it's side - which is a bite eliminator IMO). Believing that the brown ones are sight feeders, I am not depending on the vibration as much. I like, want and need some flash & vibration but only enough to get their attention; and not enough to sacrifice the speed. The 'flash' off the blade can be from a shiny or colored/painted blade; both work for me. So I use tandem willow blades a lot, as well as a willow/Indiana or willow/Colorado. Going down a blade size on both is standard operating procedure. Burning it for a ways and then throwing the shortest pause possible, before continuing the retrieve has solicited many strikes for this kid over the past few years; including my PB Smallie. This is what that looks like . . . A-Jay

So many DC’s. So little money.
I have the same reel. And AGREE with most ALL of the above. (I don't have that Diawa SV Casting reel so I can't comment on that) A-Jay

Latest Tackle Purchase Thread (Bait Monkey Victim Support Group)
This product is very light and is designed to be tied straight to your mainline & the bait; no extra hardware or terminal tackle needed. Both these fish ate a vision 110 with 12 inch of the AFW wire leader attached in 7 ft of crystal clear water. YMMV A-Jay

Strength for jigs
My gear choice when presenting a jig, regarless of bait type or size, is usually predicated on the cover I'm fishing. The denser and deeper I am probing the cover, the heavier the rod, line and terminal tackle I am selecting; including the hook on the jig. Jig weight can vary depeding on several factors such as water depth, clarity and temperature. Desired fall rate and where I think the bass are in the cover/water column (high, middle or on the bottom) should factor in as well. A 7'6" heavy action stick with 50 lb braid and a 1/2 oz jig is pretty standard stuff for most medium to perhaps heavy cover, but like I said, it depends. A-Jay

Hasn't been quite that long for me but this is pretty much where I am at as well. Might make me fish a jig a little slower too. And I need all the help I can get. A-Jay

Uncle Josh Pork Frog is Back ~ !
Cool. I would be very interested in your opinion and results. If you've never used this or even seen it, there may be a few specific characteristics of pork trailers that might initially catch you off guard. When compared to the current options, pork is messy, tricky to get on & off the hook, requires diligence to maintain its viability, seems to have virtually no action and as it stands now, all of this costs almost $5 bucks a bait. So why would anyone want that ? Well, when that's all there was, it killed bass. And many other fish as well. And it still will. However, it's sort of like a jerkbait in that it's up to the angler to bring it to life. Unlike Rage baits for example, which I fish a ton. I'd recommended that a new pork user think of and fish it like 'the Senko of jig trailers". Less is more. Either way, good luck and please pass on your thoughts. A-Jay

Winter 2020-2021
I wear heavy duty boot spikes. Still a little sketchy. Metal roofs are the way to go here and many folks go that way. Snow slides right off all by itself. Just can't park your truck under it. A-Jay I tried the roof rakes - broke like 3. Also I needed 'multiple extensions' to reach the peak and had to dig out a trench around the house to work out of before I even started on the roof ! Either way, still hard work. Makes me feel like I earn Every Fat smallmouth I catch. A-Jay
