  1. I can agree with that @WRB I will only cast 'as far' as I need to, to get bit. But in my neck of the woods, with clear water and big wary brown bass, if I start too close, I may burn the spot and never even know it. In many instances, I prefer to make my initial presentation to a prime structure, cover holding area or the spot on a spot, from as far away as I can accurately / effectively present the bait. That said, balanced quality tackle, (that I have experience, trust & confidence in) the right line for the job & sharp quality hooks, in my mind, are a must. And something that can help me out is, if I'm at the right spot, at the right time, and the bass are looking to eat, with that clearer water, sometimes they are willing to come a ways to get it. So 'accuracy' is a relative term right there. Other times, when I need to hit them on the head, I may have to slide in a little closer. I hate doing that though. A-Jay

  6. Last fall's trip. 4 anglers 6 1/2 days of fishing (52 hours) Only kept track (counted) bass over 7lbs - #scoreable Big Fish Jeff kept the stats on his phone ~ 86 days and a wake up. ? A-Jay

  8. This stuff is showing up with alarming regularity. Florida seems to have had quite a few cases so far this year. One in three die from this - That's pretty scary. Not to make light of this but, it might be time to live in a bubble. My cousin lives in a bubble . . . with the Moops. A-Jay
  9. Perhaps not ~ But there's a special place for humans who continue that behavior. We just have to be able to recognize the need and follow through. If we do not, then we have no one to blame but ourselves. Make the call & allow the system to work. A-Jay
  10. Hello Cam and Welcome to Bass Resource ~ As @MN Fisher noted 'dropping' a fish may or may not 'injure' a fish. Of course the act of 'hooking' the fish in the first place, can often be close to a mortal wound all my itself. So there's that. A-Jay
  11. I'm not sure exactly what's excluded but the few things I was looking to check out were all Excluded. Kind of a bummer. Getting 35 cents off a bag of baits is nice but big ticket items like Shimano reels is better. It's all good though. A-Jay

  14. Think of the leading edge of a deep flat, the area closest to the deeper water, as prime area. Sit back a bit from it, over the flat, but close enough to where you can cast into the deeper water and DRAG your bait up the drop. Really grind it. Swinghead, football jig, swimbait on a ball head are all killer. Sometimes they are at the bottom, or middle or top of the drop and often they will follow your bait up onto the flat and right to the boat so fish the whole cast. If you are getting strikes at the boat or lots of close follows, back up half a cast. Do it. A-Jay

Perhaps carry a few extras. Make sure they are brightly colored and deploy one or two well away from any area you plan on actually fishing but and this is important, well within site of curious eyes. Make a cast or two on them move on. I call these markers my "bunchers" as they usually seem to attract a crowd; especially when I can manage to get snagged a little and put a good bend in my rod while next to a marker. #findyourownfish A-Jay

  18. Yes, fishing line that casts and managages like mono, has the abrasion resistance of flurocarbon and possess the knot strength, no stretch, and long life on the reel like braid. Need two versions of it - one that floats and one that sinks. A-Jay

  24. I've read your posts & have seen several pics of your rig and the modifications you've made. Very Nice. While you're admittedly all about DIY - I purchased my rig set up the way I wanted it. Clearly that comes with a cost. However once I took delivery, I was fishing & catching fish - frequently. Which is why I got it in the first place - During the, going on 3 years of ownership, I have made several small modifications all of which improved my user experience. Last fall I re-powered this rig and this lasted Helix 'upgrade' was born more out of need than desire; as the replaced unit had stopped operating properly. Good Luck with your rig as well as all current & any future modification. A-Jay
