  2. Hello Matt And Welcome to Bass Resource ~ Congrats on the new PB A-Jay
  3. As an admitted new boater and novice Trolling Motor operator, the stump infested water you have chosen to fish dictates that you take some time in some different (unobstructed) waters to practice using your equipment effectively. No doubt its a good idea to have what you need and to be ready & prepared to use it. However instead of buying poles etc, perhaps delegating some time & effort improving your abilities & gaining more confidence is called for here. Avoiding water hazards you can actually see may be a better long term solution. In your initial post you asked if repeated "stumpings" were a common occurrence - I'll say that it happens more when navigating unfamiliar water, at night & / or when the under water visibility is poor - and considerably less when a boater is familiar with the area, during daylight and when under water visibility allows seeing before hitting it. Finally, in reference to your threads title, Inexperience & Dumb are different but to ignore the first is to own the second. A-Jay

  5. Hello and Welcome to Bass Resource ~ How about ~ Augustus Prime. btw - remind me again why we are helping you . . A-Jay
  6. And strangely enough, productivity probably stayed the same or may have even improved. A-Jay
  7. We use 20lb exclusively south of the border ~ for everything - and I mean everything. Works OK there. A-Jay
  8. There's probably a few. For me a common one is when setting up the hooks & rings on a crank bait that I plan on using in & around hard cover. That includes Squarebills, Mid-depth & even some deeper cranks. I use Short shank trebles exclusively and by manipulating the hook & ring size I can choose to keep the hook points close to the bait. There's a fine line between reducing hang ups and interfering with hook ups. A-Jay
  9. 1. When do you upsize one or more trebles to modify lure balance and behavior? Never - have not run into a situation where I felt I needed to. Stock hook replacement for me is all about hooking & holding potential. 2. When do you modify split rings between the bait and treble? Routinely ~ Owner Hyper Wire Rings get the nod here for me. Often use changing ring size to manipulate treble hook's position or distance from the baits body. A-Jay
  10. Fixed that one for you ~ A-Jay
  11. InvisX is thinner per pound test that Most Monofilament equivalents. 17lb Seagaur Invizx Fluorocarbon is advertised at diameter of .015 inches - 12# test Big Game mono is advertised at a diameter of .014 inches. So besides the difference in each line's properties & the price, that 100th of an inch in diameter might not make that much of a difference. Nylon line diameters between .012 - .015 often make decent open water deep cranking lines. Diameters of .016 inches & larger do well in more cover & / or shallow water cranking situations. A-Jay
  12. Late August can be a very challenging time to target smallies - especially the bigger ones. They go where the food is and move around a lot. And although a fired up brown bass may "strike" at a large swimbait - an 8 inch trout may not routinely be part of it's daily diet. If I had only a few days of smallmouth fishing, were visiting new waters and wanted some action, I'm using a bait that more closely mimic's my target species normal diet in that lake & at that specific time of year. In the swimbait category that would include 3, 4 & 5 inch baits that have a size, frame & shape that closely resembles whatever is available there. btw - some of my best smallies (4 lbs plus) routinely regurgitate 5 inch yellow perch boatside. However, the number of Heftier bass that toss up crayfish is 3 to 1. (Think Rage Lobster or 5 inch Berkley Powerbait Chigger Craw) Good Luck A-Jay
  13. Hook wire size choice is often dictated by where you're presenting your bait and then the tackle that matches those conditions. Tug of war areas of Heavy cover where a bait is casted on plus size tackle with a locked down drag and heavy often braided line can benefit from a heavy wire (superline hook). In just about every other situation, as long as the hook size "fits" the bait, meaning the gap of the hook is sufficient to accommodate the baits girth and will allow full penetration with out hampering it's action, a standard wire hook usually works well. 17. I didn't get to watch it live as I was on the water myself. So KVD did what I think many expected him to do - especially since they changed the format for the last day to include all score able bass. But there seems to be some controversy and a Protest ? KVD took a fish from outside the boundary line & it was DQ'ed. Tripp Weldon was in the Boat with him - I guess that's a good thing. Whole thing's a little wacky and probably didn't go the way the organizers were hoping. Both B Hite & KVD are making the Classic anyway - A-Jay

  21. Thank you for the supplemental info - I appreciate it. Makes sense. I was also surprised with the MLF final day format. KVD will be fishing at warp-speed for six hours. Just like he like it. Looking forward to this one. A-Jay

  23. Steel - the other model has wide wheels / tires making it suitable for soft terrain like sand. I needed it do just about everything else except sand - so I went that way. Works perfectly. Also 9 years ago when I got mine, it came with air-ed up tires. Didn't want to deal with a flat so I replaced them with no-flats. NOW - the cart is sold with them - very cool. A-Jay
