Hello and Welcome to Bass Resource ~ With little more to go on other than water clarity, it might be somewhat challenging to offer much beyond very Basic advice. I'll say that although I've not fished your neck of the woods, 6-10 foot of visibility by itself isn't usually a negative situation for me. I'd recommend fishing techniques, baits & presentations that you're confident & comfortable with and then perhaps make some minor adjustments to account for the water clarity. If you're used to being right on top of the fish you catch out of shallow water cover, you may have to stay off them a ways more. Sometimes longer (but still accurate) casts with lighter line is the ticket. Fish may bail out of shallow water cover sooner in the morning so an early start might help. Downsizing your baits is often recommended. It may help to think "subtle" when it comes to moving baits. If available, using silent versions of the hard baits you like might prove successful. Another example of thinking Subtle is instead of fishing a spinner bait or a Chatter bait in, around & through shallow cover, try a 1/4 or 3/8 oz swim jig with a grub or small paddle tail trailer. Finally, do not be afraid to commit to a finesse approach. Some very respectable summer time bags have fallen victim to dedicated drop shot, shakey head and more recently, Ned Rig anglers. Good Luck A-Jay
  2. Glad you're OK. Nice that you were able to salvage a good majority of your gear but it's a bummer you lost your rigs. As for thinking that your Kayak would never capsize ~ clearly not a daily occurrence but certainly a possibility. Otherwise why wear the Life Jacket ? A-Jay
  3. The majority of my better lakes all have a very healthy population of Northern Pike. There's two options ~ fish with no leader and deal with the bite offs or use a leader and eliminate them. I use leaders on most everything, have to. If I didn't, I'd be spending most of my day replacing baits & re-tying. Especially in the spring & fall. I can not tell you if the wire reduces bass strikes. I still catch bass but don't get bit off. There are a number of companies that make wire that's less bulky, has less of an effect on a baits action and is tie able. American Fishing Wire's Surflon Supreme is good, Toothy Kritter & Not2Kinky are both dencent as well. I use the Surflon Supreme mostly. Good Luck A-Jay

  7. A Swim Jig was new a while ago and then it sort of cooled off. I loved it then & I'm loving it now. Tom Monsoor was one of the first to bring the technique to main stream bassing. His lighter version both head weight & hook wire requires a less beefy approach but really excels in shallow to mid-depth applications. More recently modern anglers have pumped up the bait with bigger hooks & heavier heads for more Combat type situations with heavy line. That certainly works but on pressured lakes & in clear water situations the scaled down subtle action of a swim jig with a grub or a small paddle tail is still very effective. A-Jay
  8. Good Luck with that ~ A-Jay
  9. Never heard of anyone trying to poke a hook through that tough-skinned, plant eating terrestrial mollusk. The film of mucus it secretes for protection is particularly vulgar no matter how much beer it drinks. A-Jay
