  1. Yes it is. Used ones still bring over $100 each on ebay and even more if they have the box and spare parts.
  2. I don't know what this is called, but it works great and is super easy to tie without looking. And it works for allmost any bait. Hooks can be to light if you dont have a bait on them. Stick the line through the eye and pull about a foot. hold tag end in right hand and loop 1st 2 fingers over the main line. the bait is now hanging in between curl your 2 fingers and lay the tag end next to the main the line is now making a full loop with bait hanging at bottom and the tag end is still in right hand. now wrap the tag end around the outside of the loop 5 times and then pinch the tag end between the 2 fingers on left hand. drop the curl from your fingers and pull the tag through the loop that was formed. pull the tag end and main line at same time while pulling bait the other direction, that snugs the knot. now pull just the main and the bait , the knot will slide down and tighten. once you are used to this , you can tie it by swirling the bait around the loop, pinch the tag and jerk it all in just a few seconds.
  3. Shimano doesn't publicise it, but Bantam 1 told me that they use Abec 3 rated bearings. Boca has abec 5 stainless bearings for around $8.00 each and even cheaper in the 4 pack. They also have the abec 5 lightning ceramic hybrids for just a couple dollars more. Either one of these would be a big improvement to your Citica.
  4. you need a modified pair of flat nosed pliers. Hole drilled in one side and dimpled on the other. That will squeeze the pin flush. Then you punch it out with small punch. Any other way can damage the pin or the spool shaft. If you are just cleaning the bearing, get some birchwood casey reel scruber and spray it into the bearing. then use compressed air to dry .
  5. It's my under standing that the light refraction has nothing to do with line color. It's weather the line reflects light rays or not. If the line is fluoro, it has the same refraction as water. Both the clear and the green has the same benefit of not reflecting light rays differently in the water. This doesn't make them invisible, it just helps them blend in. It still makes sense to use clear in clear water and green in stained or around grass. I use the green in most situations because I can see it above water better than I can see the clear line.
  6. I think the owner does know what he has and what they are worth. I sold 4 used ones in good condition. I had the original box and papers. I sold mine on e bay for between $160 and $180 each. New in box would bring more than that. They will only go up in value the longer they stay in the box.
  7. I'm looking at an Abu 5000 B bait caster. It's serial number is 12001246 THe Abu site shows this as an orange reel, but this one is a green reel. I am trying to decide if this is a good reel that would be worth buying and fixing it up or if it's a cheap reel. any info would help.
  8. Oil floats on water. Baitcasters are not water proof, water can get to the bearings when submersed. I would think that the water would float the oil from where it should be to other places. If that happened to one of my reels, I would do a complete clean and relube. Just my opinion.
  9. One more tip that I have found useful. In addition to taking pictures, I keep a pad and pen handy. As I take the reel apart I make little notes such as where a certain length of screw goes or The order of drag washers and such.
  10. in my opinion, normal levels of heat and cold shouldn't hurt your reels. I have stored mine in the garage for several years. The important thing would be to make sure they are protected from moisture and dust and also protected from accidental damage. If you want to leave them on the rods then you should buy or build a good wall rack or hang them from the ceiling. Make sure that the rods hang without any bowing or it could leave them with a slight bend that won't come out. Obviously, the safest storage would be in a padded case, maybe you have room under a bed, but don't lean them up in a corner if you can avoid it. I suggest that you have them serviced before storing them. This will make sure that the reels are dry inside and have a fresh coat of oil to protect them over the winter. They should then be ready for use next spring.
  11. Call BPS rod and reel repair. They will send you the schematic and hopefully you can figure it out from there. Next time, take pictures. I take several digital pictures of the reel as I take it apart. Then I don't have to worry about forgetting where something went.
  12. If it's only a few weeks old and has a grinding feel or sound, then you should contact abu for warranty repairs. I have had mine for 3 years. They have been cleaned and lubed yearly and have caught hundreds of fish. They are as good as new and don't make any noises. The only time I had a problem was when I layed them in the back of the truck during a thunderstorm. The rain splater caused some dirt and grit from the truck bed to splash all over the reels. They were a little rough and made some grinding noises that day but were fine after they were cleaned and re-lubed.
  13. I have 5 revo stx's. They are very nice reels. I have had them for 3 years now and have used the heck out of them. They are still just as tight as they day they were new. One reason is that ABU used a high quality roller clutch for the anti reverse. It has almost twice as many needle bearings as many other models. That being said , I have two gripes with my revos that abu should improve on. One is the finish. It scratchs and chips easily. For this price range, they should be using a more durable finish. the second is a common complaint with revos. It seems to be very sensitive on the spool tension settings. One setting will be to tight but if you change it just one click it will backlash easy. Maybe they should have used different tension shims or better cushions with the shims. If anyone has found a solution to this, I would love to hear it.
  14. I was fishing last weekend when I hooked a large bass. I got a good look at the fish and she appeared to be in the 8-10 lb range. I only had her on the line for a few seconds and she was gone with a splash. I thought she spit the bait but on closer inspection the hook on my original brand chatterbait, chatterfrog had snapped at the bend. There was no visible damage to the hook and I have never bent and straightened it or anything like that. These are not cheap baits but it apeers that they use cheap hooks to build them. I had 15 lb line and drag was set to half that.
  15. I will be fishing LOZ in mid Sept. What is the water clarity in the Nianga section and what would you sugest for line color? I have been using a light green tinted flouro in clear water with a green tint from vegetation.
  16. The weekend was a bib success. See the pics in the midwest section under the thread anyone catching anything in kansas.

  19. A big blue gill on ultralight rig
  20. Here is the 3lb fish my daughter caught at the weekend meet.
  21. I had the weekend get together and the fishing was un-beleivable. There were 9 guys on saturday and 7 of us on sunday. Most of us caught 30 to 50 fish each day. The big ones were in hiding, probably deep in the flooded reeds. The males were finishing the spawn and could be seen guarding clouds of fry. If you could flip a tube or craw pappy right to an opening in the reeds , you got bit on every 3rd or 4th cast. There were also lots of big crappie and bluegills caught on small jigs. The average size bass was 2 lbs and the biggest caught was a little over 3lbs.
  22. I've been fishing mostly in Oklahoma at Grand as I have had a couple of tournaments there and another one in late june. But today I Checked out a private watershed near wichita. It is full and the bass are in the reeds. I caught several 2-4 lbrs and one that went 6.5. Caught them pitching a green and blue tube jig to pockets in the reeds. I am having a get together there this weekend sat and sun with a campout sat night. Just an informal meet and greet of about 10 guys from around kansas. Some are just there on sat ,some on sun and a few all weekend. We are going to have a pot for big fish , 5 bucks to enter and winner gets it all. Give me a call if you want to join us. 23. Are you from the Kansas area? Some friends and I are having a fishing weekend at a small, well stocked bass lake. This is a meet and greet of online friends from various sites. The dates are Fri. May 30th and Sat May31st. Send me a message if you would like to join us. We are exploring the possibility of forming a new local club. If you can't attend but would still be interested in a new bass club ,please respond.
