It is very possible that you snagged them but it is more then likely that they attempted to bite but missed and that is how you hooked them. I would suggest that you slow down your retrieve but you say that you caught some too, so with that in mind I don't know maybe the ones that you did hook properly were faster and more hungry then the ones that were foul hooked.

Hey, I went out Night Catfishing last Thurday with my fiance's little brother to get him into fishing to a lake that has a good amout of Channel Cats in it. Well later in the night I got bored from sitting and wanted to cast my strike king shad. After 2 casts I had a nice blow up, but no fish 3 cast later I slammed a good 3 lber, I was stoked!!!!!!!!!!! I was also extremely mad at myself for leaving the boat at home. I figured I would be able to get a bunch of nice bass if I had my boat. Well tonight I took my boat and tried some more topwater, I fished from 930pm-12am and NO BITES at ALL!!!!!!!!!!!! I couldn't beleive it. I only covered a small portion of the lake but where I did cover it was a lot of flats with a grassy bottom. Well I went in search of deeper water and found a 20' drop-off and fished the hell out of that area, with a CR with a black worm, a black spinnerbait with dual willow blades and a red eye shad. I have read alot about night fishing but I'm still very confused. I want to have a good time and trust me I don't ask for much... I just want to catch 1 per hour and I really am not concerned about catching hawgs on my first few trips but eventually I'd like to slam some big ole pigs. If anyone has anything to add to this to help me out please reply. Thanks Joe

Call me a geek but I downloaded Scrabble.... It teaches me new words hahaha but I did download the shooting games before. they are really a waste on money. First off I want to say Welcome to the forums!!!! The next thing is that I too live In NOVA and if you would like to fish the tidal Potomac by boat and are willing to split cost I am always up for inviting new members on a fishing trip!!

Most bass generally stay in the same area. I can go to the river and catch fish in the same area everyday all year long and then the following year I can still catch them in that spot. So I agree with Catt. That would be a yes. ;D

I always fish the Potomac but I believe I fish a little bit more southernthen were ya'll are fishing. I fish out of Aquai Creek but I have never caught a smallie on the potomac.

I agree with the what was said about keeping your plastics out of the heat. I accidentally left some of my plastics out in the heat for about 2 weeks straight last year when I was on a dry spell from fishing and the next time I went out I was very disappointed with look of my plastics. They were all squishy and they hard melted and they didn't work right. They were just a big headache. Needless to say after everytime I fish I take ALL my tackle out of my boat and put it into my shed. This keeps them in a controlled enviroment with little heat and keeps them fresh.

I have been using the rage tail shad ever since they have came out. They are with out a doubt my favorite lures as well. They do replace the buzzbait in my opinion but the greatest thing is, is that they are 100% weedless. I love this lure. I haven't caught ANY bass under 3;bs. with this lure. I love pulling them across the matted grass and watching the bass blow up on it!!!

Sam, I didn't mean to miss spell the knot's name. I guess I should have looked it up to give a better description. Sorry But Michael I fish out of Aquia Creek on the Potomac River. I usualy fish there at least 2-4 times per week. I prefer to fish during the week, unless I have a tournament, since all the pleasure boaters and tournaments are on the weekends. Hello Michael, Welcome to the forums!!! First off I would learn some knots, not just overhand knots. Look up the polymer knot. It is the strongest knot out now and has been proven. I would stop using swivels all together. They will mess up the action of the lure. The popper, are you actually popping it our just realing it in?? Cast it out and pop it 3 times and pause then pop another three times and pause and continue this. While fishing a moving river try using a baby 1- they have a good action. try a rat-l-trap they are good to. Any other questions just ask.
