  1. Just bought a few 1/8 oz. shakey heads... never have fished with these before and was wondering what baits you guys have been using??? Thanks.
  2. I've caught most of my big bass in small lakes/ponds.... and you can catch them on a variety of lures.... But here are few of my favorites.... Gene Larew Craw worm Powerworm Electric Blue Senko Lunker Lure Buzzbait And if you really want a monster nothing delivers like the Zara Spook....
  3. I really catch a lot on the Gene Larew in small ponds down here in Texas... definitely a go-to bait........
  4. ditto on the flukes- I've sold all my fishing buddies on it as one of the top lures ever.... give me a pack of them and a few senkos and I'll be allright....
  5. thanks everybody so far for all the suggestions....
  6. The rattlehead spinnerbait looks like it's a winner as well as the one mentioned that is now hard to get- the Assassinator.....
  7. I am interested in if you have fished with the Carrot Stix yet?? How did you like it??? Thanks...
  8. these are some nice rods that are mentioned... really like the carrot stix and the St. Croix
  9. thanks... I will look into both of those....
  10. hi- I've heard so much good stuff about the Revo Stx about to purchase one... Need help in picking out a rod for it in the $75 to $150 range.... I fish with a lot of different stuff so what would you guys recommend for an all around rod for worm, spinnerbait, topwater, fluke, crankbait, frog type fishing?? thanks....
  11. Bassectomy.... is that the Assassinator you've got pictured there?? Man, that is one great looking lure.... guess I'm gonna pick up a few of those as well..... Guess I better do up a sign that says WILL WORK FOR SPINNERBAITS.....
  12. If they get it in that deep... leave the hook in and it will rust out.... It's much better I feel than trying to remove the hook....
  13. well everyone thanks for all the suggestions.... a few I've decided to get that sound real nice are the mentioned lures- KVD strike king spinnerbait, booyah, and terminator.... and there is an Academy right down the street so I'll probably buy more of the one mentioned for $1.29.... Thanks so much.... and if you know of any others let me know.... Good fishing.
  14. they are not hard to catch... I've had luck on nightcrawlers under a cork.... and believe it or not on hot dogs.... also, cut shad under a cork... and occasionally off the bottom on minnows, and nightcrawlers.... Some of them may hurt your feelings and snap that line... so I'd use a nice big stout hook and a leader..... and set that drag nice and loose....
  15. yes I have a fishing buddy that has recommended War Eagle spinners... I've caught a lot of bass on spinnerbaits in the past... just haven't had much luck lately..... I do remember those old rubber skirts.. they were good... real good... but man in the summer they sure melted quick and wore out quick.... thanks for all the recommendations I've gotten so far........
  16. thanks so much for the tips so far.... I've heard of most of these but the Aggravator I have not... sounds interesting....
  17. I'll give you a couple of ideas and a few are some old school topwaters... 1. Zara Spook- put O rings on and then attach the hooks to the o- rings to catch those that slightly miss the lure.... 2. Billy Bass Lure- is also deadly as a shallow running crankbait.... 3. Powerpack lure- shad and frog... is a funny looking lure- I admit, but really hammers those big bass...... 4. Super Spook Jr. 5. Pop-R and the original Tiny Torpedo However, I don't know if you can put this in the topwater category, but Zoom flukes rigged weightless and 5" Senkos are the best in my opinion......
  18. Hi- I've been fishing with good success down here in Texas on small lakes/ponds with Senkos, plastic worms... a lot of the lures listed in the forum.. flukes, etc... But I've had no luck lately on spinnerbaits and not up to date on a lot of the current products out there... Just wondering what brand of spinnerbaits you guys have been catching them on?? Thanks for the tips/advice.....
  19. I fish flukes in pearl white and watermelon seed on a regular worm hook 3/0 with a spinning reel.... I use 10 lb. test line mono and pinch on a #7 split shot about a foot above the hook... I like to fish it kinda medium/fast with the rod tip low- twitch-reel- twitch reel.... Another one on here talked about Watermelon Red and I caught a lot of fish on that color as well... Good luck.
  20. I got in trouble with the activists when I told em I was going to go drown a minnow....
  21. Bring em a treat like some apples or something... they'll be more apt to give permission.... don't know about all the other stuff these guys are talking about... woosh over my head.... hard to see the pic.... looks awful weedy.... might try a topwater frog.........
  22. well you've got a nice reel... and make no mistake I catch a lot of fish on my baitcaster... you might want to pick up a cheap spinning reel and start trying that... you'll get longer casts and I usually catch a lot more fish on these reels... you may have trouble landing big fish on these reels though... now for the lures.... On my spinning reel... I like to use a small split shot about a foot above my lure and fish the Strike King Zeros in watermelon color... texas rigged and then if the bite is slow go to wacky rigged.... and try the Zoom fluke.... this is a tremendous lure and most surely will end your cold streak.... Then fish the Berkley powerworm in blue fleck and electric Blue.... try a Pop-R for the early/late topwater bite... stick with these lures and start to think like a bass... that u must do... a bass needs an ambush point to sneak up on his prey.... like slack water in current... points... brushpiles, sunken trees, weedlines... rock piles... boat docks.... I'll tell you another lure that is easy to fish and will catch a lot of fish... is a panther martin and a roostertail... these are small in line spinners that really work.... I use them in small lakes and really catch a lot of fish on them.... most of them are smaller fish, but hey some of them have been pretty nice fish.... everyone on here has had their butts kicked by the bass... but only the strong survive... patience and perserverance are the 2 big keys I can give you.. positive attitude... keep your chin up... I may not catch the most bass on the trip... but no ones gonna outwork me... This is a long post and my apologies... but you may like this story... fishing a small Pond here in Texas about 15 acres... first time I'd fished it guy keeps telling me there are some huge bass in here!!!!!!! Well, it was hot real hot.... no fish.. no bites... no nothing.... but I was determined to get my dad gum line stretched at least once.... Spinning rig Gene Larew craw worm texas rigged... I started to fish... this pond was very muddy... so instantly I knew if I did catch a fish it would be in very shallow water.... I casted down on the lower end of this pond - in this spot it was less than 50 yards across to the far bank and I casted a little too far I thought... an inch from the bank... so I was hung in the bank.... dang... I've got the worse luck!!!!!!!! but no it was not the bank!!!!!!!!!!! the drag started to peel.... thank God I had the drag set loose..... because I was fishing my spinning reel on 6 lb. test- the reel I use for crappie fishing.....oh man he came to the surface but was too fat to jump up high and spit the hook.... then he dove down and stripped drag off at will.... I was plenty skeerred he would break the line... fortunately there were not many stumps to wrap me around... so I let him strip line.... then when he slowed I made up some ground on him.... everytime though he played me for a fool and swam back out... I played him very gently and eventually with that fat belly he wore down... but what a powerful fish...!!!!!!!!!!! that was my only bite/fish on the day- he wouldn't fit in my fish basket!!!!!!! didn't have a fish scale but I'm dying to know what he weighed, he was fat, thick, and came in at 23 1/2 inches... definitely the biggest bass I've ever caught by far... I guessed her over 10 lbs. but I will never be for sure her weight, anyways- so don't give up my friend and this will soon be you!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! yes this bass was released... I only practice catch and release on bass... I wanted to put him in the basket to show my wife.... but he wouldn't fit in the basket, so I left him on the hook... she came out and I asked if she could help me get my line un-hung and she said hey I don't think ur hung.. u have a fish....!!!!!!!! I left that fish on the line and she reeled it in... she figured out my trick.... o well... we both had a great time watched her swim away that day........
  23. I almost forgot... I've caught a lot of big bass in small ponds on the Tornado spinner baits in 1/4 and 1/2 oz. size.... and good numbers of fish...
  24. well you've got some great suggestions here already... I've fished a few of the golf course ponds and they usually have great fishing!!!!!!!! Go to lures... or like my buddy says I guarannnnnnnnnnnnn-teeeeeeeeeee... are as follows.... Zoom fluke Powerworm And maybe the best of the best- Senko ... stick with these and add a couple more of the suggestions given by others and you'll have the winning combo.
