  1. I'd like to freeline it one mornin for hunuurd lb. overgrown white basses....
  2. oscar meyer hot dawgs... didn't believe it till I tried it.......... WOW
  3. I've slicked many a gar down here in Texas back behind a spill way.... The guy with the nylon rope was right on the money.... here's my suggestions and you'll get all the gar u want and then some....... 1. go to store and buy couple dozen bass minnows 2. cork 3. leader 4. nice strong hook... not to big though because the minnows aren't so big 5. nylon rope- like he said string a little close to the minnow and the gar's teeth will become entagled....... heeeeeeee the only way he can now get loose is break the line!!!!!!!!!! OOOOOO son you need some heavy line and a big heavy leader.... set the drag medium to loose....... They are big brawlers and don't easily give up.......... I've seen and hook some down here this is an exaggeration of course but felt as long and strong as a Chevy pickup truck........ Good luck and let me know how u do................ and you can always use cutbait (shad) if you don't want to spend the money on minnows, but bass minnows work best.............. 8-)
  4. Hi- I've fished the Gulf coast down at Galveston every summer since I was a little kid.... We used to have a beach house down there... the freeze in the late 80s really hurt..... I've got a post on here wanting to know a couple different locations to fish for redfish/trout.... any suggestions are welcome......
  5. Boy you've received some excellent advice here... I've caught them on the Berkley shrimp... very well in fact........ Still I'd stick with live shrimp under a popping cork... and freeline croaker... you might also freeline the shrimp if the bite is slow..... You definitely should catch a lot this way.... I catch the most before and during high tide.... If you decide to just stick with lures I'd follow what advice the other guys here have already given... good luck.
  6. not sure... be interesting to find out.... wanted to tell you something funny... took a buddy to the catfish pond... told him to bring heaviest you got.... He brought his surfcasting spinning reel and rod with 50 lb. test... he got them all in, but still they were stripping drag..... he had a blast........
  7. Hello Texas??? about to plan a wadefishing trip to Gulf Coast.... just wondering if any one had any hot spots we might try... Going in June for a week and looking to bring home the bacon.......
  8. Might try spinning gear- 6 to 10 lb. test.. this is what has been working for me lately.. you might give it a try.... Zoom super fluke- pearl or watermelon Senko-(strike king zero)watermelon red Berkley powerworm- electric blue Zoom Baby Brush Hog- watermelon I'd start on the outer edges... parallel casting the weedlines... ;)and then work your way in close... maybe a lot of bass are holding tight to cover... switch to a baitcaster and try some flipping and pitching...... I'm sure there are a lot of good lures for pitching into cover, one would be the lizard... I've even caught a lot pitching flukes.... The baby brush hog is great for flipping and pitching.........
  9. I second what the person said about 6 to 10 lb. test and a small split shot a foot above the hook.... I fish it this way 90 percent of the time and really hammer the bass... fav. color........ watermelon seed
  10. A buzzbait seems to do real well in the pads........ Texas rig weightless a plastic worm will bust some hawgs as well!!!!!! A little deeper you might try a texas rigged powerworm.... Still, I'd start with a zoom super fluke or a senko.... they are my 2 favorites so I've got to stick with em.....
  11. Strike King Zeros $2.99 in Watermelon.... they work just as good and very durable........
  12. Also, already mentioned was the Pop-R... you definitely need a few of those.... I assumed this bait was a given.... Couple of old school lures if you can get your hands on cheaply.... A Billy Bass Top-water- silver.. hard to find, but well worth the $ Powerpack Shad- white/blue .... this is such an ugly ridiculous lure but drives the bass nuts.......hard to find and usually pricey..... Regular plastic worm- no sinker texas rigged.... reel it slowly on top over moss- thru trees and thru lilly pads.... This technique is deadly on summer bass and works best in calm conditions......... You can also use this with a little styrafoam worm weight.... but put the weight on backwards...... and pop the weight to attract the bass.... Make sure you have a 1 to 2 foot leader with the worm trailing behind..... Also, I put a glass bead right behind the weight for more noise......... then the swivel... then the leader, then the 3/0 hook and worm....... Sounds crazy, but don't knock it till you tried it................... Once you have their attention you'll get massive strikes!!!!!!!!!!!!! I was sold on this technique after my Dad landed a 8.8 lb Bigmouth on the rig..........

I use a 3/0 hook and skin hook the fluke... yes you'll miss some fish because your eyes will deceive you.... You have to wait for the fish to pull before setting the hook... I use (hope I'm spelling this right) Gamakatsu hooks.... to me they are the sharpest and the best you can buy for flukes........
  14. Just wanted to jump on the Toyota Bandwagon.... I've had a bunch of different Toyotas and they haven't let me down yet. My buddy has had 11- count em 11 different Toyota trucks and never had a problem with any of them..... No doubt Tundra is the best.... I sold them before and know how good they are.... but also know the Tacoma is a great little truck... Might check into a Tacoma and save some $$.... Warranty??? you won't need it........... Also, might go to another dealership and see if you can get a better price???????
  15. cant wait to hear how many u catch..... good luck
  16. Sad to tell you this but I was with the same type of woman... I won't go into all the stories and stuff, but your better off getting someone into your likes/hobbies.... Long story short lost my kid and when through totally misery... Your fighting an uphill battle, but the good news is you can get out now relatively pain free......
  17. I've seen some great advice on here... one person really talked about fishing a spot thoroughly and then moving to the next area..... You haven't caught fish here yet, so you have no really good spots yet is the obvious problem.... I like using the frog by the lilly pads- this may be a top spot!!! I'd try the frog some and also really hammer these lures because they will produce.... 1. zoom super fluke- watermelon seed, pearl 2. senko 3. berkley powerworm Fish an area and only when you've really worked it over do you move down a bit further.... Obviously casting distance is critical off the bank, so make sure you can really get the lure out there.... Down here in Texas, the water is nice and warm so I do wade out about waist deep to give myself the best possible chance.....
  18. yeah slowing down more it what I think as well... seems like your coming to an abrupt stop... go slow in there for a long time before you ease into stopping
  19. I have the 6740 President and love it... and it holds up to 10 lb. test... might be better to go with this for bass fishing....
  20. sorry I forgot to mention the Alumnacraft jon boat 12 ft... really light.. fished in a buddy's and caught a ton of bass... real nice boat... I think they are about $550 at Academy....
  21. I saw a really nice small boat at Academy... you might check it out... called a Pelican Predator 10'3 2 man boat.. livewells, storage, etc... real nice... they had it priced at $799
  22. I like the super spook but you might try the original Zara Spook... it's bigger and you'll attract bigger bass.... I like the Stanley Ribbit Frog... it fishes like a buzzbait- and is virtually weedless.... Having said all that a fluke, senko, sluggo texas rigged weightless is real hard to beat.....
  23. Wanting some reviews on Team Allstar Rods- if anyone has tried them, what do you think???
  24. thanks for the suggestions... just bought a pack of Zoom finesse worms.. can't wait to try them out......
  25. I'd go with the 8040... I've got a President that holds up to 10 lb test and couldn't be happier.... This will work best for bass fishing as you can do most of the applications with this reel....
