  1. I bank fish and take 3 rods....... Have a Calcutta/ Allstar Rod- Worm fishing Just got a Revo Stx a week ago... and a nice friend of mine gave me a Team Daiwa V med. action rod- I use this for senkos, flukes, and spinnerbaits... I take a spinning rod for drop-shot fishing, or for roostertails/panther martins.... It's a President 6740 I think 3 is plenty.... especially when bank fishing
  2. Great news...... I'm glad you are happy with your purchase...... I can't wait to get my hands on a Cavitron buzzbait either...... What color did u catch them on????????
  3. It's a great deal........ that rod is super sensitive, go look for yourself is the best way..... I really like that combo--- especially on sale and BPS stands behind their products.... I guess your talking of the spinning combo which is nice.... but I love the Baitcaster combo much better.......
  4. Well like I said had to have measured it wrong..... but it was a nice fish anyways....... I guess I'm going to go with 18" on the Girth... Just wanted to thank RW for his tips.... about bank fishing and fan casting...... really helps be more productive and thorougly cover an area...... if your having trouble catching fish you should read up on these tips........
  5. will try to get pics up soon from yesterday........ had a few hours this morning, but was real windy... a cold front moved in this morning and they weren't biting near as good as yesterday.... Ended up catching 10- most were between 1-2 lbs.... caught them on the powerworm, and a few on the Zero...... Caught a nice one about an hour after I got there.... will try to get pic of this fish on here as well..... bit a blue fleck powerworm and was fat... Length 19" girth 13"= 4.6 lbs. The one I caught yesterday was a lot thicker with a huge pot belly....... I just wonder if I measured wrong or not...... Anyways will get them up soon and let you guys check them out... Good fishin'
  6. stick with dark colors- especially black....... I like to throw a weightless senko, and a Zara Spook......... spinnerbaits, buzzbaits, are awesome in the dark........ and the Rage Tail shad...........
  7. WOW...... that's a great deal and Pflueger definitely is a top of the line company....... I've had my President spinning reel for a while now and it's still going strong...... best reel I've ever had for the money.... I don't think you should hesitate to make this purchase.......
  8. thanks for the compliments........ it was certainly the best fishing trip I have been on this year........ I knew when I set the hook it was a big bass....... and still figure it was 8.5 to 9lbs..... I got the length right at 22 inches, but I had to be off on the girth...... couldn't be possible to be 26.25 girth at 22 inches... but it sure had a gut....... Gotta get that scale to weigh em' next time...... will try and get pics up soon to let you guys guess the weight...... have a few hours in the morning....... mebbe I can catch her sister or her mother????????? 8-)
  9. Well here's my fishing log for today... Fished from 12-4 PM temp 85d. sunny Started out at the lower end that has an old partially submerged fishing dock out in the middle.... chunked a chatterbait to start and got 3 consecutive bites, but they were hitting little white trailer on it... Then caught 2 small bass right after that on the Chatterbait, and started throwing a fluke- caught 4 or 5 including a 3 lber.... Heading way down on the lower end fishing in some pretty thick weeds... tossed a Powerworm just passed the weeds and caught a couple on it...... Started mid lake throwing the fluke and powerworm and nothing.... was starting to get about to my leaving time and went down to the dam... fairly deep down here 15-20 feet around 50 yards out.... Kept throwing the powerworm and about the 4 or 5 cast... BAM.... it took it full throttle and stripped a little drag... so fast in fact in cut the skin on my hand..... Got down in the hydrilla and I got it out of that stuff and it was wore out and gave up......... barely had it hooked....... Forgot the camera and had to go back home and get it...... It was 22 inches, but one of the fattest bass I had ever caught- had a HUGE GUT....... I estimated it to be 8.5 lbs, but was only a guess... I know it couldn't be right but measured the GIRTH and it was 26.25 inches...... I must have mis-calculated the GIRTH somehow... because fish calculator said 12.46 lbs..!!!!!!!!!! It was heavy and fat but I don't think could have been over 8.5 lbs.... Took some pics and will try to get wife to help me figure out how to post pics off my dig. camera........ Stories not over as I was running way past when I needed to be home... and went back mid lake by a few old cutoff stumps... was fishing about 10-12 foot deep on powerworm and BAM they just wouldn't stop biting......... Caught 5 or 6 real quick- 2 of them went at least 3 lbs. and have to leave em biting..... Was my first trip out with the new reel Revo Stx and used it for flukes and spinnerbaits...... casted a mile and was real smooth.... Caught the rest Worm fishing on the Calcutta...... Hope everyone else has good luck as well... Perfect conditions now here in Texas........
  10. good luck........ sounds like you have a winning combo there!!!!!!!!! I do catch a lot of smaller bass drop-shotting, but have caught a few 3 lbs. on it as well..... Like to use the Zoom finesse worms, but on bass tourn. on ESPN saw a pro hammering them on a Jackall bait- dropshotting Looked like a plastic minnnow of some sort and he was catching 4 lb. smallies!!!!!!!! It's not all about the big baits....... this summer a friend of mine caught a bass between 8-10 on a dang twiddle tail!!!!!!!!!! and a Zebco 202
  11. no doubt a smallmouth and I'm from Texas........ the initial force and power of a huge largemouth is overwhelming, but they don't have the stamina........ a smallie like everyone says just don't give up...... having said all that it is much harder to land a huge bigmouth than a smallmouth....... they are much more craftier in the art of getting off de hook........

I've tried em once night fishing at a small lake...... had a bunch of bass strike hard at em but miss them completely I guess because there was no light!!!!!!!! they are good lures and make a lot of noise!!!!!!!!
  13. hey the guys from up north will be a bigger help to you..... they fish em all the time....... I'm from Texas, but have fished em a lot at Whitney and SQUAW creek......... If you are gonna fish with lures go with crawworms....... or jigs with craw trailers and another good lure is the strike king rocket shad..... slow roll it deep--- bounce it off the bottom.... Think rocks rocks and more rocks...... and clear water... this is where they will be....... look for rocky points and look for drop offs..... say 10 to 25 foot and they will be there....... I've caught a lot up in creeks on the drop-offs... I've caught some big smallies at Whitney and Squaw and the truth is was all with live bait....... at Whitney I caught them on live small shad and at Squaw on big shiners!!!!!!!! up to 5 lbs........ I just used a spinning reel and a few splitshot to sink the bait down... set the drag loosely as these are POWERFUL FISH!!!!!!!! good luck- let me know how it turns out........ you might even try a bucket of bass minnows if can't get any shiners.........
  14. check out the Alumnacraft jon boat at Academy....... they are a little pricey but well worth the money and easy to put a seat in..... I'm clumsy and canoes are way too tippy-------- especially in windy conditions...... plus this boat will hold 3 people.......
  15. wow!!!! nice fish........ I had an old strike king frog that was super weedless that I bought in the late 80s.... but my nephew lost it a few years ago as he got his line broke by a monster hawg.... just wondering what kind of frog this was ????? and were you just popping it along slowly??????????
  16. I've had a few trips where we've done real well at night....... it is much better at night with a full moon or close to it..... The lures that will really work are Senkos-dark color Dark plastic worms- such as a black powerworm and best of all are spinnerbaits, and buzzbaits....... all in black...... black is definitely the best color at night.......... I've had huge blow ups on the Rage Tail Shad- and I guess any kind of topwater is good to try at night.......
  17. save yourself some $$$$$$$$$$- just go buy 2 or 3 packs of zoom flukes..... a pack of blue fleck powerworms........ a booyah spinnerbait........a pack of strike king zero's....... and 1 pack of zoom finesse worms......... hallelujah and amen
  18. I rig them on my president spinning reel, although you can use a baitcaster....... If I see a bunch of fish on top of the surface I fish them weightless--- walk the dog action--- 1-2 pause If I want them to go just under the surface which this is the way I fish them most often, I will use a small split-shot....... And also to fish them deeper... and I've caught some good ones this way- use a weighted hook, and use the same walk the dog type action..... some use nail weights to sink them deeper and this is just as good as using a weighted hook........ Personally, I only use one color- watermelon seed.
  19. ZOOM FLUKE WATERMELON SEED- it's the only color I buy..... when fish go deep for me it loses its effectiveness, then I go with a Blue Fleck powerworm
  20. well lets see I live here in Texas and will try to give you some suggestions...... I think as far as public lakes go in Texas I would stick with Lake Fork, although its true many of these other lakes mentioned have some hawgs..... To tell the truth if it were me and I really wanted a DD, I would go to fish some lakes in Mexico like El Salto... this would give you the best chance...... Also, there are many private lakes here in Texas where huge bass are caught..... many of these places are very expensive, but would just about guarantee you a big bass..... you might check into one of these places and see if you can find a deal??????
  21. nice fish and great looking jigs....... may I ask what brand they are and what kind of trailer????? really like that red and black one...
  22. yeah I am from Texas and we all tend to exaggerate....... but I swear the bass I caught last week was at least 5.5, but he was only 3.5!!!!! so no I don't have any credibility guessing weights you are correct.... which goes to say get a scale or measure the length and the girth.... you have to have both to get the formula correct......
  23. I'd say just guessing 9.5 to 10 lbs....... 26 in. is huge!!!!!!!!!!! I finally realized you do need a scale!!!!!!!!!! caught one yesterday I swore was 5.5 to 6- real fat and weighed in at a meager 3.5 lbs.... but having said all that has to be at least 9 lbs.........
  24. thanks- can't wait to try it out...
  25. was looking for a nice cloudy day but it was very sunny yesterday- dang knew they wouldn't hit topwater... started with a powerworm on the lower end and caught 7 bass on it...... 2 on a fluke..... and 1 on a texas rigged zero (senko), but no big ones today... drats- biggest one was only 2 lbs........ was a little disappointed as their are some big bass in there, but all in all a good day of fishing..... expecting my revo to come in soon as I ordered it from Ebay....... look forward to trying it out......
