Small Pond frustration in the Fall
Yeah this has happened in Texas, but it's not quite as cold....... had a few cold fronts and fish really backed off........ didn't get as many bites, but focused on the bigger fish....... They want an easy meal when their metabolism slows when water temps lower....... something slow, big, and easy to catch......... Go with a big worm like a 10" powerworm......... go with a big 3/4 or 1 ounce jig with a big crawfish trailer........... It's a good time of year to fish.......... even though you won't catch as many fish, they will be better quality........ try to find the spot where the water is slighty warmer....... and fish a little deeper....... maybe where the sun is hitting- just a degree or two can make a world of difference...... good luck

I have narrowed it down to these two
Id get a revo stx...... u can get one brand new on ebay for 120 if you look around a bit........

What colors of jigs should I be buying??
those ol' stanley jigs I used back in the 80s were great..... black and brown are still the best colors...... biggest bass I ever caught was on a huge 1 ounce black jig-- I'm trying to go new school bought the Bass Pro xps football jig in Blue-berkley chigger craw trailer.......sure looks good... will let you know if I catch any.... haven't got to test em out yet..........

Fishing has been slow since Cold front
Cold front passed a few days ago and fishing has been real slow... changed up tatics and went to 10" powerworm and fished it real slow...... caught 6 fish right before the front passed but today fishing was real slow.... caught 1 dink on spinnerbait..... but trip was worth it as to my suprise got a big strike and reeled in a 20 " bass... was real fat but probably only went 5 or 5.5 lbs... About to start slowing down even more and fish jigs with craw trailers to see if that might do the trick......

spinning reel/rod $200-300 range
Guess the reel monkey has bitten again....... just bought a Shimano Symetre 2500 that works great, but thinking of getting a bigger spinning reel for wadefishing/saltwater and bass fishing... flukes, senkos........ Ran into some big bass lately that are super strong, and go a couple of times a year down to the coast for trout/redfish...... looking for something that will hold 14-20 lb. line....... and a good rod to go with it....... I know this might be a tall order for bass and saltwater but wanting to see if you guys might have any suggestions???? Probably going to buy it within a month's time frame.......

I need suggestions on a rod/reel.
I've never tried the Sahara....I have had my Pflueger President a few years now and it's given me no trouble...... it's super smooth- don't quote me on this but I believe it has 10 bearings..... its relatively low maintenance and super tough.... every now and then I'll use some reel cleaner spray on it....... and I have had to use a little reel oil..... it keeps going strong...... You might check and see if they still have a sale on there..... I got my reel with 20% off and had a $10 off coupon..... they also have the Symetre in a smaller model....... My advice would be to go in and reel on them a little and get the feel of the rods........ get something that feels nice to you......... I don't think you'd go wrong with either one of these reels........... good luck

What is your biggest catch?
WOW that's a huge red you caught..... 44 incher!!!!!!!! what did it weigh??? biggest fish I ever caught was a 40 lb. shark on a party boat out of Galveston........

Speckled trout lures
Not for big fish necassarily, but for #s the copper penny berkley shrimp is the all time best........ For big specks, go with CORKIES, they are made from a lure company down in HOUSTON, Tx.

Can you all help me pick a decent rod?
a Team Allstar Rod would be super nice......... or a Shimano Crucial..... I know these are both high quality rods.........

I need suggestions on a rod/reel.
you might check and see if they still have a reel sale going on at Dick's sporting goods.......... I bought my reel 20% off..... they have a lot of the reels you mentioned there...... I would recommend you might try the Shimano Symetre 2500 FI reel and pair it with a All star select rod...... I've had mine for a couple of months and really love it........ They also have a Pflueger President combo there as well........ I have a President and its a great reel, but I like the the Symetre much better..... smoother and casts way farther...... good luck.

Need Advice On First Baitcasting Reel
I like THe Rooster's advice......... your getting a lot of quality for the money and durablility....... you'll be very happy taking his advice...... I do like SHIMANo very much in fact, but would have to upgrade way over your price range and get the Chronarch MG 50.........

Latest outing..Wife gets new PB!....
great fish.......... if it get's a lot of pressure, you might look into some finesse techniques like dropshotting....... Maybe try a package of flukes next time........ that's my #1 go to bait right now... maybe they can work for you???

did anyone else experience a red hot bite today?
Yeah- I know it sounds like a fish story but this tank its easy to catch fish...... you know you'll catch a lot, but the question is will you hang any hawgs, or just catch dinks...... Having trouble with the cardreader on dig. camera..... may have to buy another one.... gonna get wife to try and help but can't seem to get her motivated enough......
-
Cavitron question
I got hooked on all the hype and yet to get a strike...... of course all that can change quickly with just one big fish.............

did anyone else experience a red hot bite today?
Yeah I didn't get to go today...... big rains here in Texas and high winds with the front passing thru..... 2 nites ago saw a full moon, so went fishing yesterday morning and stayed till 3pm at a tank by my house..... it was off de hook..... Caught 22 bass in all....... and they flat out hammered a fluke...... bite got real slow as temp rose and got humid........ then rain would come and cool things back off....... Fishing got slow on the fluke and went to the dam and threw a powerworm........ Good gracious...... caught 7 or 8 on it with a couple of 3 and 4 pounders.......... and the big bass going around 4.5... 20 incher Knew might be a chance to land a hawg on a Cavitron but no strikes..... did catch a few on a Baby Paca craw....... 2 of them swallered it........... Had some big bites on a Chatterbait but gonna have to stick a trailer hook on it as they bite the little white trailer and miss the hook!!!!!!!!

Cavitron knot help!
fishing clear water may braid may not be the best choice... I've haven't had any trouble getting bites as I fish many clear water ponds...... I have had good luck with P line 15 lb. test...... I have that on one of my baitcasters...... still I love the braid much more as even if you backlash it's really easy to get out..... WIth that palamor knot it's not going to break and you don't get real nervous when they tangle you around stuff...... I didn't like it at first- took me a while to get used to it.......
-
Cavitron knot help!
Yeah that's just my opinion...... unless your into catching really big bass mono is just fine........ I've got into a few this year that broke me off, or pulled me down into the slop... got into trees, etc.... If you've gotta stick with Mono go with at least 17 lb. test line............
-
Spinnerbait rod....whats your set-up?
I've checked out that Team Allstar spinnerbait rod at BPS...... it's a bit pricey but that it such a sweet rod- I'd go with that one if not too pricey..... It's super light and great feel to it...... I've got an old Allstar Classic that has lasted me a good 11 years already and still going strong.......
-
Cavitron knot help!
Those big ol' bass are strong and can flat out break mono line in a heartbeat....... plus if they don't break the line they probably will get down in some junk and you can't haul em out....... Switch to Powerpro Braid 30 lb on your baitcasters and 10 lb. on your spinning reels......... BE SURE AND TIE A DOUBLE PALAMOR KNOT WITH THIS LINE OR THE KNOT WILL COME LOOSE........ A double palamor knot is easy to tie once you try it a few times.... go to youtube.com to learn how to tie it............
