  1. I fish on a big private lake where it's usually tough to fool the big bass in there.... We've caught the big ones Texas rigged with a Blue Fleck powerworm..... Also you might try a Zoom Fluke........
  2. Discontinued Lure from Ebay.... Powerpack Frog.... only problem with the lure is the dang bass bit the legs off it!!!!!!!!!! @@@@@@ BASS!!!!!!!!!!!!!
  3. You can get a Pflueger President 6740 for around 50 bucks brand new on ebay..... I've got a shimano stimula medium action rod on mine.. I think I gave less than $20 for the rod new..... it's a great combo for the money..... Why I waited so long to get a Pflueger I'll never know..........?????

Look on ebay for this discontinued lure.... Powerpack lures in shad or frog... Like RW said, I'd get one of those Cavitron buzz baits.. they look awesome... I love catching them on a buzz bait... if it's not too mossy you might stick a trailer hook on the back just in case..........
  5. Big bass fisher--- seems like you are off to a good start!!!! Now in the summer pattern, I'd focus on the early/late bite..... Big baits for big bass??? yes it is true... so I'd try a Zara Spook... and a buzz-bait.... maybe a big Double Willow leaf spinnerbait around some lay down logs, if there are any there...??? One bait I have not tried that is getting a lot of attention are those snake baits run along the top of the water..... I've heard reports of folks landing some huge moss-backs on them, so mebbe you might try one???? Last but not least, I hate Jig fishing... don't know why?? but my biggest bass ever came over 20 years ago on a huge jig/trailer combo.... so there's another one you might try???? I hate to tell this story cause it wasn't my fish!!!!!! but my dad caught a Huge big fat 8.8 LUNKER....texas rigged weightless on a plastic worm swimming it slowly on top of the water!!!!!!!!! Also try a 10 inch worm... maybe in a chartreuse color???
  6. what kind of rod and reel is that in the picture???? looks great.....
  7. Man what a fish... that's a certified HAWG...... I've never tried fishing with bluegill... but now I think I'll start...
  8. Thanks RW so much for your post... this is a lure I've never fished with... look forward to trying it out.... There are a lot of perch in this pond and I've only caught small bass... but it just looks too fishy not to have a Lonestar Lunker in it.... I'll keep ya posted on my progress......
  9. well I dont know the length or girth that would help.. but just by the pic... wow this is a good looking fish... I'd say 5-6 lbs...
  10. Man once you hang that first big Bass you're hooked!!!!!!! There are a lot of good open faced baitcasters, but most are expensive... like the Revo STX.... I've got a Shimano Calcutta for my baitcaster... and a Pflueger President for my Spinning reel..... which I gave about 40 bucks for... and I've caught a lot more fish on the Pflueger... 100 bucks is a tight budget... maybe you could find 1 baitcaster and a spinning reel???? anyways just a suggestion..... As far as tackle... let's see you'll get a lot of advice here.... but for me I usually catch the fish on the same stuff over and over.... Zoom Super fluke....* Berkley Powerworm...* Pop-R.... Zoom Baby Brush Hog Senko-* wacky rigged or texas rigged weightless Zara spook Gene Larew Craw-worm Rat-l-trap Crankbaits- deep, mid, and shallow runners...
  11. Found a pond about 350 yds. long and 150 yds. wide by my house... the first trip yielded 0 bites..... and 6+ hrs of fishing.... Took my Pflueger President spinning reel and went back this morning- kinda cloudy so things were looking up... Still no bites- tried everything... pond scum stretches out along the banks which makes it tough to fish... clear after that... dang no boat.... Anyways, the lower end of the lake is where I started... kinda tough to fish with all the pond scum... moved over to the upper end of the lake which is much easier to fish.... Casted a watermelon fluke texas rigged weightless in a little pocket between the moss... bam finally a fish about a pound.. Caught 2 more off the dam- small ones... then I flipped the fluke along the shade past an oak tree...and a small fishing dock.... wham monster fish felt like, but it pulled off the hook.... Went back to the mid lake area with the fluke and caught 3 more.... got a ton of bites but missed em'- felt like smaller fish..... Sun came out from behind the clouds about noon and made the fishing tough... got hot.... tried some plastic worms, but the moss was so thick even past the pond scum it would get all over the line.... Left about 1pm.... even though the fish were small it sure felt good to finally land a few.... tried a frog and a senko... no luck... Just wondering if anyone had any more ideas on what else the bass might strike here????
  12. I'd throw a watermelon or pearl white zoom super fluke.... if that doesn't do the trick- I'd try a senko... and still if that doesn't work I'd try a berkley powerworm or a baby brush hog in watermelon texas rigged..... Good luck... and hang on...........Reel him in son!!!!!!!!!!!!
  13. hey thanks for the info.... Looks like we're going down for a weekend trip bout 2 weeks from now... then going back in August...
  14. Get 2 packs of Zoom Super Fluke watermelon seed $6 1 pack of Strike King Zero- watermelon red $3 1 Tornado spinnerbait $6 2 packs berkley powerworms $8 2 packs Baby Brush Hog- Zoom- watermelon- $7 2 packs Gene Larew Craw worms- green orange claws $8 2 Buzz baits- 1 Booyah spinnerbait- $20
  15. well I don't know if you have a graph or not, but it will help even a cheap one.... You can find drop-offs, sunken trees, etc.. it will show the big concentrations of baitfish... Even just a depth finder will help.... Look for points, etc... brush piles- you might even get a lake map and scout out new areas... An excellent fisherman once told me out of 100 percent of the lakes area, only 10 percent of the lake will hold fish!!!!! Time spent on the water= bass in the boat!!!!!!!! Once I was fished down here in Texas at Lake Whitney out in the middle of the lake with this same guy.... I was ready to go... no action!!!!! He was using a french fry carolina rigged and swings a 9 lb. bass up into the boat!!!!!!! when you least expect it- that's when it will happen.... He had a ton of time spent on this lake, and knew the area... he knew they were in there, so while I was all negative... bam he's got a lunker... That 1 nice bass will increase your confidence... the main thing is to fish hard and not give up!!!!! keep hammering and eventually you will break through....... Lures to use and other things to think about----- ambush point- think like a fish... where will he try to pick off his next meal??? along a laydown log??? off the edge of a dropoff on a point??? Back in a creek on the edge where the sunlight/shade meet??? Lures- flipping and pitching in tough to reach areas..... Spinnerbaits along laydown logs.... parallel casting shorelines.... Early morning/ late evening bite- watch for surfacing baitfish/fish- use a topwater or buzz bait.... get a lure you can throw a long ways... back off the fish so not to spook them...... Last but not least.... fish the zoom super fluke.. and the senko...they will catch fish.. stick with it and see what I mean.... Good luck....
  16. Early- Pop-R/ zara spook/fluke/senko Middle of day- Texas rigged powerworm/ baby brush hog/ larew crawworm Late- same as early
  17. hmmm thats a tough day fishing... I know the feeling... a small private lake I fish loaded with weeds/stumps and it's getting harder and harder to catch fish there.... Summer's coming so the pattern is shallow early- then they will move deep later or very tight to cover.... Show em' something different.... I've had good luck lately on a texas rigged baby brush hog in watermelon.... You also might try a zoom finesse worm on a dropshot rig... I've had to get my flukes a little deeper lately and a 1/8 oz. weighted hook texas rigged should do the trick... in pearl white.... Always a killer are rat-l-traps.... match the hatch... maybe there are crawdads in there???? what are the fish feeding on???? Try a Gene Larew crawdad if there are crawdads in there.... If they are feeding on minnows, you've got to match your bait to the size of the minnow... get something that closely imitates the baitfish... If they are feeding on small minnows, a panther martin or a small rapala may just do the trick...........
  18. well thanks so much for all the tips... really appreciate it... me and a couple of guys are going down to Galveston.... August 1-3... wanted to go sooner, but this is all we could work out... thanks again...
  19. Never..... sometimes worm fishing they will swallow the hook.... cut the line and the hook will rust out....... if the hook is too deep cut the hook... to revive a bass move him back and forth in the water to get the air in his lungs..... Usually when your line breaks on say a topwater plug they will throw the lure out.... so anyway hope this helps....
  20. I've had good luck on the zoom super fluke in watermelon seed.... put a small splitshot above the lure... 3/0 gamakatsu hook... twitch reel type pattern.... Same setup with the senkos... I fish the Strike king zero because it's a little cheaper in watermelon red... Then go with a texas rigged with a bullet weight... berkley powerworm in blue.... And the best technique you may use is parallel casting the banks, weedlines with white or chartreuse willow leaf spinnerbaits.... Don't know if there are any crawfish in there??? If there is, I'd surely try a Gene Larew Craw worm.... brown with orange claws.... Sometimes in the Summer the bass will go deep and I put a bullet weight and texas rig the Senkos... works great..... Also, if the fishing gets real slow wacky rig the Senkos... I've caught some real nice bass fishing this way......
  21. Hi I'm from Texas as well.... Glad to see you here.... it's a great site!!!!!!!!!
  22. anyone out there with speckled trout/red fish reports in Texas??????????
  23. it's not good... a local pond owner put some chemicals in his pond to reduce the weeds... killed all the fish!!!!!!!!!!! I hope it's not chemicals in there......
  24. wow... that's a nice catch... I've caught a few of them off the jetties in Galveston...... not really a crab fisherman though but my mom loves em... I've always heard about Sabine, how great the fishing is there.... I have been to POC once and it was awesome... can't wait to go there again.... Since I have no boat looking for somewhere to wadefish???????????
  25. She'll keep a list... and if you want to stay with her she'll have to be high above fishing or any other hobbies you may have... she'll keep score as well.... I knew a guy who liked to golf and would sneak out to the driving range... he was scared to get that much into it, for fear his wife would catch on to his new obsession with golf..... to put in mildly he was handcuffed or hen pecked on a short leash... I'll get a lot of flack for this.... but I know this type of girl... believe me....... She's an attention hound... and you'll have to give up fishing if u want to keep her....... or only get that once in a blue moon trip...... What I'd do knowing what I know now??? let's just say I'd pull anchor and go full throttle find another model........ ;D
