Just before dusk when it's still light I'm throwing a Joesfly in black gnat his 1/4 ounce bass size. The bass bite is on. As the light of day starts to become dusk the bite shuts down as their eyes adapt to the change in light the basses eyes change faster than the baitfishes do. Changing to a white, blue glimmer, hot chartruese, chartruese colored baits the action will pick up till total darkness arrives. Don't limit yourself to not using brighter colors in low light conditions. Be flexible break the norm. When I was a youngster many decades ago at dusk I was throwing a uncle Josh 4" white pork strip on a hook. I was swimming it. In the low light I could see it being pulled every which way. In the mid 60's white was working in low light conditions. One of my hottest baits in changing light conditions is a Joesfly 1/4oz in firetiger apache. Even on over cast rainy days. I've caught lmb, smb on these days.

Catching bluegills on bass spinnerbaits? Upsize to get rid of the pesky smaller fish. But expect the bigger pickerel to strike too. They are an awesome game fish. I enjoy there fight. When you have some bluegill on the line reel it in slow and wait for a bass to strike it.

I believe what fools us is as we go deeper in the water column the water conditions can change. This tells me the bass can smell my scent, hear my rattle, feel my vibration but can't see the color of my bait. Since we can read the water conditions below firetiger can be our friend. What I say about clear water/ natural colored baits, stained water brighter colors, muddy water brightest colors is a standard starting process. Subject to change its your call. Why do we carry so many different colors of baits.

Colors, it's the old color thing. When in doubt I toss different colors till I get action. In clear water it's smaller sized natural colors fished faster. Don't let the bass get a good look at it. I always say when in doubt toss a CRANKBAIT in firetiger.

Glenn here way back in the beginnings with spinnerbaits. I tweeked it and finally got my spinnerbait bite working. I was beyond happy. My last cast as I took the spinnerbait out of the water to avoid some shoreline rocks a 30" pickerel came out of the water parallel to shore and ripped my hot setup spinnerbait from my line. It was so violent and quick my jaw dropped in shock. I knew the pickerel, pike, Muskies can be very aggressive but this one assaulted my lure. They aren't playing. Hint,,,,Wal-Mart steel leaders.

They could be below the sight line attacking the Baitfish at the very bottom. The slower swimmer loses. I seen the 8" school of pickerel working over the bass fry. I put on a rapala original floater in baby bass and went to work. I caught every pickerel. I probably shouldn't of done that.

Caught 19 bass from shore standing in one spot skip fan casting. In the light soft rain. At the same time the deer were on the move too. The moon phase was just right.

Good point about the points and shallows. I have a dog leg with a point at the hip. I work the shallows near the foot. From shore these areas are there but overlooked. I toss a pearl money minnow 6". I just twitch it. I get action in late November in the snow flurries. Don't be afraid to hit the dying Lilly pads too. Work the outside first. Great tips Glenn Remember like Glenn says try fishing parallel to the shoreline. My biggest bass have come from close to shore.

I caught a large perch and put it in a different body of water on the way home. It was in my minnow bucket. I decided not to eat it. It's in another healthy spot. Haven't caught it again. Yet.

Ok the bite is on. Your catching bass after bass. Your bait is a amusement ride and every bass wants there turn. It's a feeding frenzy and you swear a bare hook would catch bass. All of a sudden the bite shuts down. You catch nothing, no sign of life in the water. Where did the fish go? What changed? WHAT DO YOU CHANGE TO? How many Options do we have? Let's hear your thoughts? Have a plan in place?

Change? Colors change. Water conditions change. PH changes. Temps change. Patterns change. Baits change. We can have a multiple water condition in the vetricle water column too. Don't leave a beaten fisherman. Skunk isn't in my vocabulary. Not even in my dictionary or word processor. It's skill that catches bass not luck. Don't let your ego let you think your on top of your game. We never stop learning.

It's good to remove some fish within the slot limit but don't tell every Tom, Dick I and Harry about it. There is food stamps if you need help.

I usually throw a variety of different baits and colors till the fish say bingo. Topwater popper Shallow crankbaits Spinnerbaits Inline spinners Minnowbaits (hard body) Carolina rig (senko / brushogs) Something will get action. Vary your presentations. Read and watch every video and article here, they go out and try it. Read everything over and over all winter. Nothing beats time spent on the water.

Something for,,, Clear to slightly stained water, it's Natural colors, smaller size. Stained water, a tad brighter in color, a mix of smaller to medium in size. Muddy water, brightest colors, largest in size. Using a scent and a rattle is a plus.

Anyone fishing the salmon spawning in upper NY state?

I caught some nice bass, crappie, pickerel and trout but I never mounted any. One of my buddy's caught a 4lb bass and bragged and had it mounted. The bass in my pic is 6lb 1oz and caught in the same place.

Since the word is that the Norman lure company was sold or closed up I put in two orders for the Norman thin N Crankbaits. I have a pretty good stash already but the kids will have plenty. with the Norman thin N in killer Chartruese try it at dusk. Use a dead stick presentation. Leave it in one spot and twitch it. Make it irratic in one spot. after bps discontinued the hottest topwater lure of all time the bps/xps topnocker and I was devistated I stock up on every lure I find that works. Only the hottest ones.
