When we would use a drag net on the beach in saltwater trying to get shiners for bait we would catch little tiny sandflat fish and little founders. Not many but enough to see them. The biggest chain pickerel so far I caught were between 29"/32". We have a monster were they stock trout since he's gorging on the trout it's either a monster chain pickerel or a very large great northern pike. This lake does connect to a larger lake up stream that has great northern pike. The pickerel/pike seem to make darting runs during the battle of reeling them in. The fight is fun.

I purchased the trap bass duck lure too but I need a setup with new braid to use it. I can't afford to lose any duck lures.

Maybe they are were we never seen them. The map on that sight I said to search shows they go up to the vt Canadian border and around the great lakes. While another species is limited. Yes hellbenders I've heard that name too. I just ordered longer lizzards to match the mud puppy colors. And creature baits. There's another name for them. This one is kept as a pet I think it's white.

My biggest PB chain pickerel is 32" so far. Btw, I think the snakeheads are never going to take over our waters with the bass, chain pickerel, great northern pike and our muskies. All are awesome game fish.

In a major river here one of my buddies was ice fishing and caught a 10" long mud puppy. This kind of suggests another bait for bass. I think I purchased both sizes that river2sea offers. I haven't tried them yet. I'm wondering if mud puppy's are in every body of water? Do you fish with mud puppy's? Or ever catch them? This could be the connection between bass and lizzards? Have you ever seen a lizzard in the water. Mud puppy's eat bass eggs. Search for "river2sea mud puppy" go to you tube and search water dog, mud puppy, . Any thoughts? River2sea calls them nest raiders or waterdogs Another point is don't be afraid to tie a 8" plastic lizzard on too.

I pumped gas as a kid on week nights all the weirdos came out on full moon nights. It was like thriller the MJ video. I have canned bread, canned bacon, canned beef, canned pork, canned cheese, canned butter, tomato sauce, macaroni, bread mixes, cake, cookie mixes, Coleman oven for the woodstove or campfire. All my Swedish stainless hunting safari camping cook stuff. Even real MRI's. We lost power one October and we didn't skip a beat for 1 1/2 weeks.

One rod, one action throwing a gazillion baits that's how I was at first. But the bait boxes once came with a line test recommendations for the best action for there bait. I started using two rod setups 8lb test 6' rod and a 6lb test 5'6" rod spinning. But I found that 8lb test wasn't good for topwater. The 5'6" rod with 6lb test was good with smaller lighter baits. Then a plastics setup was totally different 14lb / 17lb test. Going with jigs a setup up again. Then small and larger spinnerbaits, inline spinners. I have the line test down I just want a better action rod suited to my baits. Then it's what rod material for certain actions. This is why I get confused there is no industry standard on actions. Each one is different. This is why I posted this looking for guidance. Refine my search for a better action rod. You guys are awesome here lots of good info. Thanks I would never buy the high dollar stuff that's not me. My budget is around $100 right now. But it depends.

Thanks for clearing things up. Now is there a difference between the $80 to $100 to $150 rods quality wise. I see $400 rods and $750 reels does anyone really use this stuff.

Please clear things up a little for everyone. What rod action for which bait? 1. Topwater 2. Crankbaits 3. Spinnerbaits and Inline spinners 4. Plastics / rigs 5. Stick baits. Does the taper matter? What do you rod gurus prefer? When you do switch to a new rod how long does it take you to get use to using it? Have you ever had a new rod you couldn't use or didn't like? Do you find the new rods designed for a certain bait work better? I guess just a fishing rod isn't any rod will do anymore. We're in a high tech world now.
