Looking for bigger bass stay going. I was fishing everyday up at 3:30am there by 4am. 24/7 and I got burned out by around 3 months. You need to push your physical limits. Once your in the hunt stay in the groove. Big bass don't do the tornies 9 to 5. These big hogs hide when the sun is up. There might time feeders. You might catch one during the day that's rare for me anyway. The three small places I was fishing regularly I seen big bass swim by me at the drop offs. Bigger bass then m y PB 10lbs. If I have bigger bass here there has to be bigger bass in every other state. Look at what some have caught in Maine. The bass love that Rebel BIG CLAW crawfish crankbaits that dives 10'. The chartruese/green is the hot one here. I use the smaller ones in rivers. Match the colors of your natural crawls. Presentation is the key. I put crawfish scent on it. Then cast it out as far as I can in the open channel along side the weedlines. I close the bail and sweep back the rod so the rebel BIG craw dives to the bottom(10'). Then I crank it slow all the way in. This rebel BIG CLAW is one of my hottest baits. Since its a floater too we can use it over submerged weeds. Fish it slow.

But getting sponcers is tough. You need to win or compete at a high level. That's eat, sleep, fish, dream about fishing 24/7. That's worst than marriage time wise.

Hang in there, First it was two knee operations, about two years ago it was prostate cancer. It's in remission. Now it's spinal stenosis it's arthritis really bad in my lower back I can hardly walk. No fishing again. But I'm going to bring a chair and help. We all seem to make a pit stop during our lives. I wish someone told me this when I was younger the years just flew by. My dad taught me if your going to pick something your going to do for the rest of your life be the best at it. Do your best. Never accept others telling you it can't be done. Just keep working towards your goals. Pick something you enjoy doing. Don't worry if your still in school as life continues on it all comes together and will workout. No need to worry. About 15 years ago I was in the zone, on top of my game and probably as good as shore fishing as I was going to get. I was fishing seven days a week. I was stocking my tackle room with everything. Planning on starting to fish local tornies. The two Torpedos hit me. I had two knees go bad and two knee operations followed. Forced retirement followed. Now my fishing time is limited. I still fish with the dedication and heart of any pro. I have no ego. When I'm fishing I take the time to educate kids how to catch bass. I like to see everyone catch fish. I'm like a field rep for fishing equipment. It takes lots of time and dedication to be a pro. you better have it in your heart and have the drive for success. Life is a roller coaster of ups and downs. We win and lose either way we move forward. My point is once your committed there's no going back. There's more behind the scenes than you think. I been a car and jeep mechanic, a machine rebuilder, a cnc machine builder, a logger inbetween jobs, and the last twenty years of my working life a lead tech in a engineering r&d lab. I build machines to make parts for the M1 Abrams tank, assembled the 155mm howitzer for the US Army. I helped design the Disney tower of terror ride. I built machines for the auto and truck industry. I build machines to manufacture disc brakes for every auto manufacturer. Every time you step on the brakes they were machined on my machine. The bottom line is I rather be bass fishing.

I seen movement in a large puddle after the high waters settled down.I tossed in a joesfly trout lure and caught a small carp. I returned him to the river. Even puddles can hold fish. LOL

The government did a survey. The results was to eat the smaller bass and put the larger breeders back. I say eat crappie they taste better and catch and release all the bass. In ct we have a slot limit now.

I was fishing crowded places in the evenings. I switched to fishing early in the mornings when the place is calmed down. The bass got bigger in the mornings. But I was catching bass in the evenings when no one else was. I was throwing bass lures. Live bait doesn't work like lures do. In the evenings as dusk approaches the bass turn on. Fish topwater, inline spinners and crankbaits at this time. As it gets darker try brighter colored baits. When it's dark switch to darker colors. At about 10 p m the bass turn on again as things settle down.

Presentation is the key. A sloppy presentation catches nothing. You need to do a golden globe winning presentation. Walk the dog Cast it out, let it sit till the ripples are gone. Now hold the rod tip down and do a 1, 2, 3, short rips and a pause. Make the rips exactly the same distance. I do the same thing with poppers, floating crankbaits, minnows. Pay attention to the way you crank your reel. You need to make a circle on the crank. Not an egg shape circle. If the circle crank is off the bait goes fast and slow it's uneven. The fish look for flaws in our presentation. I'm just a shore fisherman I'm fishing backwards than you boat guys. You can be as good as you want to be just get into the zone and stay focused and motivated. Pay close attention to your presentations the bass will let you know when you get it right. I fish all the local places I can gun and move to the next place very quickly there a few minutes from each other fed by the same river run off from a large stocked lake.

After logging full and part time between jobs running a 25lb 100cc chainsaw all day my arms were like Popeye. Fishing from shore making about 500 to possibly 1,000 casts per outing was nothing. The only problem I had was the higher gear ratio reels with crankbaits and spinnerbaits. I use the 5.3 ratio reels for them. Another thing I learned the reels with more ball bearings while being smoother also wore me out. I break in the spinning reels with more bearings on my plastic setups first. I do have the faster bait casters. The higher gear ratio isn't for everyone. The 5.0 ratio is what most want and use. Second thought? How fast are you moving cranks? I move cranks to the point I get a smooth slow wiggle. I move inline spinners and spinnerbaits just fast enough to let the blades spin. Don't fish so fast. Relax take your time and enjoy the strike.

I have one spot that's a dog leg shape it blocks the wind. But if I move 25 yards to the left I'm in the wind. I throw inline spinners and spinnerbaits.

I do really good with hard baits in craw colors. Bomber in redapplecraw, firecraw, browncraw, greencraw. But the chrome and silver flash color has worked too. There is a blue/chrome color too in another brand. Some new crankbaits manufacturers have added sparkles like in the worms/plastics. I think that Norman crankbaits have sparkles in some of them. I do find that the orange bottom crankbaits do work better at times. I have had some new cranks and top props painted in bass colors. I had some peacock bass topwater lures painted in hotter looking colors but there too pretty to use. The bottom line is the bluegill and sunfish colored cranks work better sometimes. It's matching the colors to the water conditions. Some of the newer $25++ cranks do copy the worm colors.

Spinnerbaits, Mann's classic 1/4oz. White, Mann's classic chartruse 1/4oz. Mister twister 4" split double tail trailer with trailer hook. 6. Carolina rig, 24" leader, senkos and brushogs. 7. Split shot rig, 6" black creme worm. 8. Rapala f7 original minnow. Blue or black.

I took a Mann's hank Parker classic spinnerbait 1/4oz and took a 3/8oz spinnerbaits and put the 3/8 Colorado blades on the 1/4oz spinnerbait. I put the blue glimmer skirt and a white mister twister 4" split double tail grub. First time out it was catching bass after bass. I looked like a pro. Then the worst disaster that could happen a 30" pickerel came out of the water as I pulled to the shoreline and ripped it off my line. I guess the vibration and flash was too much to resist he was fully out of the water on the rocks on the shoreline. I swear it smiled as it left. The spinnerbaits with the mister twister 4" split double tail grub used as a trailer rocks. I have changed the treble hooks on the rear of my crankbaits to a larger red one. Questioning the success everyone else was having that I red about. Sure enough I found out it works. Short strikes. One shot of scent covers any foul oders on your baits. Changing size and colors matters too.

Wash your hands before fishing. Do not pump gas when going fishing. Make sure your tackle box has no oders. Try a scent. Do not put used plastics in the new bag of plastics.

My personal best from shore is 10lbs.so far. I seen bigger and lost bigger. I fish smaller places that were 200 year old man made dams for water power, that were once rivers. Some are fed from big lakes in the area. In in ct and my thoughts are if we have bigger bass here every state must have them, there not being caught. There very smart plus these bigger gals are the breeders keeping up the supply of the bass fry. FACT, it's not the size of the body of water it's how healthy the pond is, how much of a food supply there is, how many fish there are. Possible? Are you kidding me? Here's the tips to hooking into bigger bass. I use lures only. I find that the bigger bass don't like live bait here. Plus they want something moving it's the challenge in the predator. Bass are predators like cats. Some cats/bass will strike right away and others are lazy so it may take a few casts to excite them. Fishing from shore. I go out at 4:am. In very, very quiet, very, very stealthy. I walk softly, do not step on roots or rocks. They send vibrations into the water. Handle your tackle with no noise. I use spinning tackle only and close the bail by hand. Being STEALTHY is the key like your not there you have to be that quiet. Topwater first walk the dog rip, rip, rip n pause. Shallow cranks reel slow. With inline spinners, spinnerbaits reel just fast enough so the blades spin/vibrate. Vary your baits. Don't fish too fast. Using a scent helps too. My first cast is far and scented. I use a hummingbird portable fish finder the wristwatch one we cast out. To learn the bottom structure and depth. Now I know what depth lures to use. Now as the sky starts to light up (twilight) I switch to brighter colors it's still like dusk, very low light. As day light approaches match the lure colors to the water conditions. I do not cast into the Lilly pads I cast past them and about 10' away from them. There maybe more than one fish there so I don't spook them. If you cast at them you may get one fish. I walk the dog near the pads and draw the bass out one by one. In the open areas or submerged weeds do not fan cast. I skip fan cast. I do not put my casts next to each other. I cast left then right. I skip around. Casting Rocky points I skip fan cast plus fish up the point from the deeper water. Fish the back side of the point if there is current. Fish the bottom edge were there is no current. The fish ambush what ever goes by. The smaller places do have this structure. You need to find the Rocky points, flats, drop offs and holes, deep pockets. Submerged weeds and weedlines. I fish along side the weedlines in the open water with a c rig. I use a Cajun red line for the 24" leader 12/14lb test. I'm fishing in 10' of water normally. I use the Carolina keepers with a 1/8oz brass weight with a clicker. I throw senkos and brushogs. I have a snap swivel at the hook end so I can change out pre hooked baits without tying. I use nothing but eagle claw 249w weedless hooks. The spring on the weedless hook is a strike indicator when a miss occurs. When it comes up open. There's no guessing was it a strike or not. One shot of scent on the next cast will allow for a hook up when they seem to hang on a tad longer on the second cast. I cast it out and keep the line taunt following the weight down. As soon as a tad occurs I set the hook.

There are weedless weighted heads out there.

The place I fish at from shore has so much fishing pressure in the evenings I had to start fishing in the early am in the dark. I had to avoid the people casting 2oz weights. There saltwater fishing in freshwater. It's almost elbow to elbow fishing in the evenings. I caught bass but nothing over 5lbs. Mainly 2lb to 3lb bass averaging 6 to 9 bass per outing. Early morning fishing is when there's no noise. Your alone but you must be very very quiet.

There is so much reading and education about bass fishing here you will get a PHD in bass fishing when your done reading it all. Get started I will take up your time. We can preach till dawn and nothing beats the time on the spent fishing. I been here since the very beginning of this forum. Guess what were all still learning. It's skill that catches bass.
